whats up with the screenshots?

i feel like i'm the only one that notices that some of the screenshots for GTA 4 seem.... painted. you know.

 

i'd post images if i knew how.... i think i've tried everything.

 

oh well, here's something i tried. this screen is very "painty"

yeah i kinda got that same drift somtimes im like HOLY SH*T with the graphics and other screeens im like eh not that smooth looking i dont know though...

The high-quality screens are from a development unit, most likely. As for the "painted" look, Rockstar has commented that they filter the visuals of the game with some nifty color / lighting shaders to give it that artistic feel and also help hide the 'next-gen' blemishes.

i always had the impression that the "painted" effect was put onto some of those images before released to the public as to not show the full capacity of the image, sorta to some extent not show the full graphical prowess of the game engine, to keep us guessing what the complete game will look like, because in comparison to other screenshots and the trailers for that matter the graphics look nowhere near similar with that washed out painty effect, im sure if you paused the game or stood there mid game it wont really be all that visible,

 

 

the trailers were 70% gameplay and i barely picked up the watercolour look at all in them..

I just did, that screen is definently painted because you can tell by the tree's and

by how it looks, the screen with Niko in the car shooting his micro SMG, that's

more then likely taken during gameplay.

 

 

Edit: As suggested before, the screenshot the topic creater posted is probely painted using water

colours.

I understand the issues with the screenshots and I dunno what exactly to make of it. The best idea I have is the style R* are using like a filter doesn't photograph or screen shot very well and that when you see actual game footage you won't notice it much if at all.

I just did, that screen is definently painted because you can tell by the tree's and

Haha they arent painted dumbie - they might added some stuff in photoshop but it is all captured in the game

It's just a filer in the game, you can see it in screenshots taken from the trailers as well... it's not gonna bother anyone when everything's moving.
