werenotfugazi Posted April 3, 2008 Share Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) It seems that many of us here are a urked we can't fly planes, but honestly, I think the helicopters are capable of a whole lot more, and will prove to be a ton more fun! So my question is, have any of you guys found any good links for info specifically about the different helicopters, and features we can look forward to? I'm curious to know if we can fly news, police, civilian, and / or military aircraft...Will we be able to shoot bullets, or missles from them? If we jack a news copter, can we film / broadcast sh*t? Being that R* is said to be withholding around 70% of the features of GTA IV, I can't help but get excited about all the sh*t you could do with a helicopter. Just imagine finding your enemies house, maybe his name's Mack Johnson, or something, it could be anything, but anyway... hovering is his front yard...blasting on the flood light, and mowing his house down with a 3000 round per minute mini-gun while you're poundin' on some 12" subs with your old break dance beats in the cockpit? f*ck yeah. We've already seen the Maverick, so civilian copters are obvious, but the multiplayer section on gta4.net has a screenshot of a Blackhawk-looking thing swooping down on a group of players, twin miniguns blazing. It also looked to have some missile launchers next to them, so we could very well have our new Hunter. Also, the Jeremy St. Ives trailer had footage of the same aircraft strafing a sailboat, though it looked like the shells came from a door mounting like the minigun on a military chopper, so it may replace the police choppers when you reach a certain wanted level. I think the combat choppers will obviously have weapons you can use, but aside from that I really don't know how else you could use a chopper. I also hope there's variety in the choppers. I've also imagined being able to select a first person perspective in the cockpit. Imagine being shot down in between a ton of skyscrapers...the scenery is whirling around, and the sound...engines failing...buzzers, and bells going off the f*cking hook...with your favorite song in the background... you hit triangle, or Y to bail out, and barely avoid being split in two by the tail blade... trying to gain control of your arm in the wind...quick...pull the string...and parachute down...only to get snagged on the tower of the bridge, and cut yourself loose with the chain saw... ...gracefully falling, and crashing onto a DeLorean...Ouch! ...wake up in the hospital...and WATCH THE CINEMATIC REPLAY! Euphoria doesn't control any non-character objects. Technically, you can have a Euphoria driven character interact with a purely script-driven object with no mass. So the helis can be coded exactly the same as they were in VC/SA and it would work in principle. Yeah, I'm sure that all vehicles are now actual world objects. That will help. Still, you could easily put enough constraints on a vehicle to make it feel like it's not interacting with anything. I have a feeling that we will once more see a force that auto-levels the helicopter. I'm certain that there will be no accounting for difference between collective pitch and throttle adjustments. And never mind the fact that on a real helicopter changing one control requires adjustment of all others. Have you seen a GTA helicopter starting to spin because you increased collective to go up? The problem isn't that R* couldn't program a good flight sim. I'm sure they could. Problem is that they are going to dumb down helicopter flight for all these people who'll whine if they can't do perfect landings after 5 minutes of flying. If they simulate the flight properly, 90% of players will tip the helicopter over during first takeoff attempt before both skies leave the ground. R* simply isn't going to give you that much realism, no matter how much they push the new realism angle. If we can shoot a mini-gun from the helicopter, then that's the first thing I'm gonna try to do! I hope you can actually shoot the windows out in buildings!
