EasterEgg
Once again, I found this article on Google news. Iron Man (I personally have no idea what it is about) is coming 3 days after IV. People think IV could cut into the profits, as did Halo 3 in September... Here is the link: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...wgtgameblog0301 Here's the article: The current issue of Entertainment Weekly features a short but provocative story about the danger that Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV could pose to the Hollywood box office when it is released on April 29th. Writer Nicole Sperling points out that GTA IV shares an audience similar to that of Paramount's eagerly awaited film Iron Man, which is set to release three days after the game hits stores. Could GTA IV gamers wind up skipping the movie on opening weekend in favour of plopping themselves in front of their TVs and game consoles? The story ends up taking the tone that it is unlikely that a game's release will have any impact on a movie's box office take, quoting a Paramount spokesman as saying “It's crazy to think that young males can't carve out two hours for Iron Man,” and an industry analyst as making the claim that it's “the dopiest thing” he's ever heard. Well, it doesn't sound that dopey to me. In fact, it seems entirely possible that some younger GTA IV players will figure that, having already spent $60 on a game that week, it might be wise to conserve funds. Perhaps they'll see Iron Man later in its run, or, if the film gets bad word of mouth, perhaps they won't. And has the movie industry already forgotten that it blamed the video game industry for the dismal box office suffered by The Heartbreak Kid after Halo 3's launch last year? Unfortunately, we'll never know the answer. Even if Iron Man performs well, it could be argued that it had the potential to earn millions more on an opening weekend that didn't fall after the release of one of the biggest selling games of all time—a game that, according to at least one analyst, could earn as much as US$360 million in its first seven days. Of course, the Iron Man/GTA IV showdown is part of a greater dilemma faced by Hollywood executives, who in recent years have been forced to ponder a mostly stagnant box office even as they watch video game sales continue to rise. They may not give voice to their concerns, but they can't help but wonder how many of consumers' finite entertainment dollars once earmarked for movie tickets are now being spent on games. Slamman
Did the IGN site video give you this idea? Seems like you echo what they said days ago! Not that that article doesn't have merit but it seems odd they brought up a movie I think might have been that one too. perspextive
Haha, why would I go pay $10 (or $20 with a date) and deal with some assholes talking on their cell phone. Not to mention I only get to see the movie once, and that $60 for GTA will last me until I stop playing video games (never). f*ck the movie industry, bunch of rich ass people who just want to get richer.
