Greene
It's that time of year again. Paddys Day! Technically its being celebrated this year on the 15th of March instead of the 17th because the 17th falls during Easter week, but I think most people are still regarding Monday the 17th as Paddys Day. It makes no difference to me as I'm going to be celebrating between tonight and Monday night! So whats everyones plans for Paddys weekend? I've got no specific plans other than over-indulging on alcohol, and making a complete twat of myself! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Jay
One of my friend's has a birthday on St. Pat's day. And my birthday falls on St. Andrew's day. He's Irish. I'm Scottish. *chirp, chirp*

Rhoda
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Don't drink too responsibly. A night out where you don't wake up next to an ugly stranger isn't a night out at all. It's more of an adventure. Anyway, get supping.

Yeah, it probably won't happen again for a while. The last time it happened was in 1940.
mark-2007
I don't get why St. Patrick's Day is celebrated so massively in England and the US (to my knowledge)... In fact, people I know that are my age celebrate St. Patrick's Day more than St. George's Day. It doesn't make sense to me...
Picolini
St. Patrick's day seems like one of the most useless, pointless holidays. Basically a "get sh*t faced even if you're not Irish" day.
Moonshield
Everybody that isn't Irish is just looking for an excuse to drink. I'm Irish and Nicaraguan, I don't need an excuse! @Picolini: At least it has some history to it. It's the same way with Cinco de Mayo. I'm not Mexican, I don't need to celebrate it, but gringos still do. Some holidays are even more pointless (sweetest day? valentine's day? kwanzaa?) Basically, its cause the Irish have a massive presence in the US, Britain, Australia etc. due to the emigration from Ireland that happened in the past. I guess its a nice excuse to celebrate their ancestry, or just as an excuse to get drunk.

Because for some reason St George's Day isn't a bank holiday in this country, so we don't get the buzz around it. Even if it was, the celebration'd probably involve tea and cake. My girlfriend's Irish, and we've both got the weekend off work, so it'll be Guiness and Jameson's till we fall over.
mark-2007
Haha, yeah. I suppose any excuse to get drunk is jumped upon by pretty much everyone. It's just that St. George's Day isn't celebrated at all to my knowledge. I don't even know when it is!
Typhus
Ah, Patrick. Drove the snakes out of Ireland, had a nasty song made up about him by Druids. I was almost born on his day. But I do not celebrate these things, the whole concept of saints is wrong to me. But for those of you who feel otherwise I hope you have a lovely time and don't get too plastered. RearEndCollision
I'm not into the holiday's where I'm told to get plastered, like St. Patrick's. Cinco De Mayo, Halloween, President's Day, etc... This St. Paddy's I'm getting my third tattoo. Whoo.
Typhus
We should celebrate the Day of the Dead. Now that's a good holiday, although maybe just because I like the idea of the calaca. A skeleton dressed up and happy. It's nice.

just another thug
We celebrate something called green beer day. This is because St. Patty's Day always falls during our Spring Break. It's a pretty big thing, everyone starts drinking at 5:30AM and the news crews show up for the start of the day. Then everyone goes to class hammered and the professors don't care. I just woke up and am slightly hungover but it was good times. My friends and I will probably celebrate St. Patty's Day (it is my namesake after all) while I'm on Spring Break. Struff Bunstridge
Green Beer Day sounds awesome! A couple of Q's: 1. It says Ohio forbids alcohol being served before 5.30am. Does that mean between midnight and 5.30? 2. Why is the university called Miami?

Usually the bars stay open till 2 so people can still dance but they stop serving alcohol. 2) It's called Miami because that was the Indian tribe whose land was stolen to make the university in 1809. Hah, it's also in the Miami valley.

But then again when the alcohol kicks in sometimes some people can say a bit too much.

Damo.
I have a f*cking rugby match to go to so I'm going to miss most of the day. I normally wouldn't go, but it's the final, so I need to be there.
TubbyJ
Aah, St. Paddy's Day, I'm Irish, most of my relatives are or have been drunks, I can take the drink like a champ, and I'm fifteen and underage. Looks like it's fruit punch for me then.
