Slamman
We know the famed Country, Blue Grass, and Blues club in New York City has been known as one of the most famous punk clubs the World over, and as someone suggested, it may appear in Liberty City... as a tribute perhaps. I read when I pulled this video up that the band in question, though hailing from out of state, are known for their stints at CBGB, they claim. I found out about them from their being covered by other bands, even Pearl Jam... so the influences of the HC and punk scene may have been discarded in the early 80s, it certainly helped fuel a scene. /The Dead Boys / Sonic Reducer... Add your video suggestions for Hard Core, NYC style or something in a similar vein like Lou Reed's Rock n Roll... covered by Jane's Addiction, for example. Or Metallica covering So What by Anti Nowhere League. Ramones (Motorhead pay tribute to them!) I would even say a band like D.R.I. can fall within this genre. (Dirty Rotton Imbeciles) <if this was mentioned as a thread before, please excuse this one> EDITed add. I wanted to get these guys in since I suggested them.... The Cro Mags were one of the earliest cross over bands and are well respected even today. Edited March 14, 2008 by Slamman
InfinityWilco
What kind of f*cking board is this where I can't successfully post videos. Stupid sh*t. Edited March 14, 2008 by InfinityWilco
Slamman
If I can, you can. The point of this thread is to add some punk and HC suggestions (using YouTube brackets) (the format is to use the code after "v=" in the string URL) [ youtube ] and [/ youtube ] brackets on each side
Hayze
I'm pretty sure CBGB closed down their place in NYC so if GTA 4 is supposed to be taking place in '07 or '08 it probably won't be there.
Slamman
I recall something like that, but they could still pay homage. The idea here coincides with mention of a Hardcore station offering and that CBGB was the venue most often associated with that scene.... despite it's original name! DunkTheBoy
Some very old school Beastie Boys! Anything from Some Old Bullsh*t would fit perfectly. I'm hoping for some newer Beastie Boys stuff too, although that'd need to be on a different station obviously.

Slamman
SOD and MOD, any Billy Milano is GOOD!!! I think that one is more Metal then nought, but I'll allow! I was going to look for a vid or two from them. It's excellent, needless to say. Anyone heard of a band called Blind Approach? Pretty heavy, several years back in fact. Slamman
I love that song. I think Sonic Reducer as done by Pearl Jam live featured Joey Ramone on vocals! Yes, that's correct! So sweet! I love it. I'll try and upload it somewhere... put some video with it (boot CD of Jam live - No F**kin Messiah 2 put out by Oxygen Records OXY 058, if that helps!) Having no luck with the last SOD? vid link, so here's an amusing MOD track; Wigger!! hahaha Edited March 14, 2008 by Slamman

Slamman
As luck AND fate would have it, I located a seemingly 16 minute concert clip of SOD at CBGBs...so enjoy this muthas!! benny profane
sweet, thanx man. that was pretty metallike, do the MILANO MOSH! to me sod was big THRASH + small metal, and "speak english" was a punk record straight through, kick your ass. but milano is pretty conservative right now, aint he? cbgbs to me also spells devo. off-topic: they never played cbgbs, but SLIME was the best german old skool punk band, which is where i'm from. so heres "yankees raus/linke spiesser", if anyone cares:
Slamman
Even the movie Rock n Roll high School with the Ramones starring feels like a total tribute to punk, but I like how it bridges those gaps. When I first found out about punk music, it was my oldest sister in fact, I was into old, traditional rock like Ted Nugent, VH, REO, even Bob Seger I liked ..though not all. KISS was the biggest band in my life growing up in the 1970s. My sister somehow got into early Replacements and Black Flag... and I would argue that's just noise. Took awhile for punk to get some chops to compete, but you hear strong influence in acts like The Clash. A band PBS just presented in a special documentary. You know you've made an impact if a PBS pledge drive has The Clash!! haha I found even more CroMags actually at CBGBs as well! I'll have World Peace in here soon! The text here is so good I opted to include it as well. In fact, mere mention of the band Warzone has rung my mental bill that they did a station ID for my buddy Earl Root's metal show. I archived that on tape, very funny! > This is it, the last Cro-Mags show at CBGB's, from 2001. Incredible, high energy set featuring almost all of the classic Age of Quarrel album. Multi-camera shoot captures the ferocity of one of the best hardcore bands of all time grinding through their best songs in front of a frenzied crowd. Bonus features galore, including a full set from Harley's War, bassist Harley Flanagan's post Mags band featuring members of Warzone and Murphy's Law. Track Listing: * Intro * World Peace * Show You No Mercy * Malfunction * Street Justice * Survival of the Streets * It's the Limit * Hard Times * By Myself * Don't Tread on Me * Face the Facts * Do Unto Others * Life of My Own * Signs of the Times * Everybody's Gonna Die * Blitzkrieg Bop * We Gotta Know Bonus Materials: * Harley giving a tour of CBGB and talking about what the club meant to him and tons of other kids who attended the famous Hardcore Matinees. * Full set from Harley's War - Bassist Harley Flannigan's post Mags band featuring members of Warzone and Murphy's Law. * Footage of Harley and his son jamming * Slide show Available at seeofsound.com < Here's a fan made one for the studio ver WORLD PEACE...can't exist; Edited March 14, 2008 by Slamman

Slamman
Yeah, ya noob. I explained how to do it in the other music threads. Not too hard obviously. Another prime punk example. GG Allin, the most hated person aliv...dead. Though he passed away, GG Allin surely left his mark and stank upon the music world. He is a porn music star in some ways, with songs that hold no bars! My friend Earl works in the music business locally as I mentioned and he met GG for an interview in person and said he smelled dead people who smelled better then GG Allin! Still I had heard his material during a segment of our local metal show called the Sick Set. Because it was public radio, we could issue disclaimers and play tracks unedited in the early AM hours! The set is no longer around but I archived many of them over the years. Here he plays with Dee Dee Ramone in rehearsal in NYC, no less... this in Jan 1991. -> Edited March 14, 2008 by Slamman
W Blue Sky Lives
Awe, you all got to the good bands before me. This may not be as old, but here's Bane at CBGBs. They still rock. Someone tell me how to imbed it correctly, so I don't look like a retard.
Slamman
haha, the good bands are featured! Oh, well... I'll keep looking for some Need a few Warzone cuts, for one reason, more inside the famed CBGBs!!! Oh, this is actually REAL funny and On Topic, you'll have to see this and get some laughs! Anywho, sandwich the v= coding inbetween the [ youtube ] HTML code (BB code?) and you'll see the video window, but exclude anything around the code that v equals including any ampersands if you did a search query. Slamman
From what I've seen and heard over the years, they qualify as punk and Hardcore to a lot of folks. I was reading the You Tube comments and I stand by that reasoning. I still wanted to include the Mentors because they walk their own musical line and lo and behold, I find this Jerry Springer episode... GWAR family fare! I missed this one as I do most of his shows, nice to see here though. Edited March 14, 2008 by Slamman
archiebunker
As far as I'm concerned, the club's heyday was back in the days of Patti Smith, The Ramones, Television, The NY Dolls, The Stooges, etc.
Slamman
NYD are an acquired taste I found when I was checking them out. Ramones were actually interviewed about them, I was able to come across an aired radio bit that had to be some years old. I remember likely seeing the club for the first time when SOD were featured out in front of the club in a daylight setting back in the mid or late 1980s? I veered a little off topic with Gwar, but some of those TV clips are quite interesting. I can imagine that CBGBs is much like our First Avenue nightclub, or maybe the 7th Street Entry which is a stage to the left inside that famed club. The Entry as we call it is about the size of a two or three car garage so bands viewed in their is about as intimate a setting as you can get! I brought my camcorder in there many times and filmed. Another time I filmed Tesla there, they took my tape! Bah!
