Purvis
As most of you here know, GTA4 is going to be utter HD sex on a screen, and most of you yourselves have bought HD TV's/Monitors that support HD. Well, I recently bought a really really nice 22 Inch LCD wide screen monitor that has HDMI enabled, which is awesome because it gives me 1080I wide screen HD. Now this is where it gets sad. The monitor itself has support for audio connectors from a PC, so that you could connect the monitor to the PC and have sound. Well, since I'm using a 360 there really isn't a connector to plug in my audio plug from my spare PC speakers, so I pluged it into the monitor itself, and have gotten no sound whatsoever from the speakers themselves, the only sound comes from the monitors UTTERLY HORRID built in speakers! Does anyone know of a way to help me so I can have awesome bass and sound for my 360 games, and eventually, GTA4? Oh right, forgot the link to the monitor in question. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824254028 The connector in question is an "audio in" connector. Jayt001
Hmmm, I'm guessing the HDMI doesn't have any other sound cables on it?

djfreed
if you have RED/WHITE OUTPUTS on the back of your monitor, and your pc speakers use a 1/8" headphone jack style...... then you need a female 1/8" to RCA cable, problems would be solved.. EDIT: also, check your audio settings in your monitor itself. remember, HDMI carries both High definition VIDEO, as well as AUDIO.. so basically your using your monitor now, to route that sound somewhere else (amp, pc speakers). SovietWarrior42
Thank god I got a TV instead of a moniter. I love my Toshiba 23 inch, almost as good as the big Philips in the other room. Well, best of luck man. How long have you had the moniter and do you have the receipt? I would go trade it in and get another.
Jayt001
The only other option I can see is to use the VGA 360 cable instead of HDMI. For this, you will need the following (if you are using standard pc speakers with 3.5mm jack): offcial 360 VGA cable like so: DVI-VGA adapter: http://img.nextag.com/image/DVI-VGA-Adapter/1/000/000/822/559/82255914.jpg you won't need one of these. RCA to 3.5mm: EDIT: just checked your monitor model specs and you won't need a dvi-vga sorry. Edited March 14, 2008 by Jayt001
Purvis
Thanks for the help, but the posts regarding white and red jacks seem to be wrong. The only connector on my monitor for audio is green, like a PC's audio connector. Would USB connected speakers work, seeing as the source of the sound is coming from the 360 and not the monitor? MrKlorox
So, just to be clear, you're trying to hook up your PC and XBOX360 to a monitor that has one HDMI input and one VGA (D-SUB) input, one sound input (1/8 inch headphone style jack), and no speaker/line out option? Do you use HDMI for your 360? Do you have a video card with a DVI output? I recommend using the sound out (red/whites) from your 360 and plug them into the line-in port of your PC soundcard (using the gender inverse of the second cable posted by Jayt001. Th HDMI 360 should come with a small box that allows these cables for those that do not have the right HDMI receiver/tv. Then you have your 360's sound with your better pc speakers and can use winamp or whatever for custom tracks in games (so you don't have to fill up your 360 with mp3s, or f*ck with the network connection). MrKlorox
Here is a quick diagram. Microsoft's VGA cable pack contains the cable and most (probably all) of the adapters you need, and it's about $40 in the USA.

Um. No. I'm not connecting my PC to the monitor, I just bought this monitor as a cheap, cost effective means to get HD 360 gaming, besides, most of my PC games look like sh*t on this monitor. So, how do I correct whatever I might of done?

So, how do I correct whatever I might of done? Easy. Send it back for a TV that has audio out. And why not have it hooked up to your PC? Multimonitor computer use is awesome. I'm gonna HATE having to move this TV from my PC to the living room eventually. EDIT: Also, you must not have the display set up right for the monitor if the PC games look so bad. Console games will look the same if you have set your video card up correctly. EDIT2: Please tell me you're not trying to use your monitor's sound-in as a speaker/line out. EDIT3: The way I got cheap (less than 50 dollars) cost effective HD gaming before I got this HDTV was with the MS VGA cable plugged into my old fat CRT monitor. My CRT is rated at 1600x1200 max resolution, but it easily accepts the 1920x1080 (1080p) signal from the xbox, and with a little on-screen adjustment it looks great. Purvis
Easy. Send it back for a TV that has audio out. . No, I'm not made of money. And why not have it hooked up to your PC? Multimonitor computer use is awesome. I'm gonna HATE having to move this TV from my PC to the living room eventually. Because my main games (HL2, STALKER, etc) only go to 1280 X 1024 (I think more for STALKER, I didn't check) and because my PC is close to dying on me. It has a faulty PSU fan and the graphics card overheats like the old SA-80 rifle of the British Army. :\ EDIT: Also, you must not have the display set up right for the monitor if the PC games look so bad. Console games will look the same if you have set your video card up correctly. Actually, the 360 games on the monitor look AWESOME. EDIT2: Please tell me you're not trying to use your monitor's sound-in as a speaker/line out. I have no clue what I'm doing. I only specialize in PC related hardware that is inside a case, not monitors and whatever.
MrKlorox
Hl2 will run any resolution, including custom ones. This TV I use issupposed to be 1366x768 with 1280x720 visible, but in reality stretches a very non-standard resolution of 1200x676 to fit. I defined such a resolution in my nvidia control panel, and now every source engine game allows for that resolution. make sure you change from fullscreen to (4:3) to widescreen (16:9 or 16:10) inside the video options of HL2. If I recall correctly, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. originally didn't even support a widened FOV when switched to widescreen, but then again I haven't played it since 1.0003 (BTW, you MUST check out one of the Darker Night mods for some awesome night time firefights ... especially during an electrical storm). I guarantee there is a way to make the PC games look as good as (or even better than) the 360 games with your monitor. From the screenshots on newegg, the monitor you have does not appear to support a sound-out method. I'm almost certain you were plugging headphones into a sound input. (on a semi-off topic, semi related note: my headphones work bi-directionally so if I accidentally plug them into a sound input, I will be able to hear "tapping" and "shuffling" when touch the cans). EDIT: Anyway, use the analog (red and white) sound out from your xbox and plug them into a set of real speakers. you may need the second cable the Jayt001 posted if you're hooking it up to a pair of speakers that take a 3.5mm headphone-style jack input.
