TheGameKisser
if people think the game looks like sh*t cuz of a screen shot, then just dont fcking buy the game! end of story. But when pics give you mixed impressions then what? i for one have seen pics that look so bad and pics that blow my excitement metre through the roof, so calm down and drink some tea. p.s i am 100% getting this game it looks ace. Some screens look awesome while some look not as good. So here goes again... Rockstar edits their screenshots all the time. The MTV Screenshots have been shopped to the max power cause I doubt it's a game-caption the MTV crew did from a build R* gave them... more like R* handed the shots to them. And go pick your San Andreas game box and look at the 4 screenshots on the back cover... San Andreas wasn't sharp like these 4 on consoles. Case in point, the game will look good but R* photoshops some of their screenshots heavily.

shred_guitar
Honestly, I've noticed with a lot of next gen games that it's the LITTLE details that make it truely look well....next gen. Most of the time you can't just look at the whole screen and get blown away. The small details that make up Niko's face, the clothing textures, the glossy surfaces, that kind of thing. I know with Motorstorm I wasn't that impressed at first but when I zoomed into a different perspective right behind the ATV I was blown away about how much detail made up the environments, the rider, etc.
Magic_Al
I think the fuzziness people are noticing is related to the transitions from high-res to low-res in the draw distance. If you play San Andreas in HD, either on a PC or on an Xbox 360, you really notice the pop-in/pop-out at the threshold of your high-res draw distance, which is a lot closer to your POV than the low-res/absolute draw distance. Since GTA4 is designed for HD, they're probably using atmospheric effects or a painterly style to obscure these thresholds.
ScaryKidsScaringKids
they edit the photo' s graphics down so it doesn't look as good so when you get in the game you'll be like wow and screen shot's suck anyways you kids are expecting to much and your going to be pissed when it comes out cause it's not going to live up to what you want it to lol
Cran.
Any PC gamers in this thread know that PC games have the best graphics and are capable of delivering it (provided you put mucho $$$ in your hardware and GPU especially). Still kills me when I read that some people don't know what AA or AF (anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering) are and think that consoles are the ultimate thing as far as graphics go. Last but not least, my XFX XxX Nvidia 8800GTX costed as much as a PS3. lol. So, yeah consoles are a cheaper option, I recon. Ninja edit: Oh, this ain't some fanboy sh*t - might be OT - but it's just facts. Hardware facts. is the PS3's graphics card as good as an 8800 or what would it probably be like a 8600 It's basically a 6800 Ultra, shoved into a console. @topic who cares? GTA was never really known for it's graphics, and besides, you can't expect to have a massive detailed city with stupidly high res textures. It would kill the PS3 and Xbox360, and take up way to much disc space.

TheDude5000
GTA was never about the best graphics. IV still looks great, imo. I can imagine how awesome the Algonquin skyline must look at like night.
MrKlorox
Wow there's a lot of nonsense in this topic. The MTV shots look cleaner because they were sized down and possibly taken from a less compressed (lossless) shot, while the "oil painting" looking ones look that way because of the mixture of Depth of Field blur and artifacting that is very common with compressed images. The other factor that could make them appear "washed out" is the low Anisotropic Filtering quality inherent in the Xbox360's graphics chip. EDIT: The PS3 chip has capabilities closer to the 8000 series of NVIDIA GPUs than any other serial.
Blindfutur3
In the shot the TC posted it looks low quality because the majority of the image is in the distance! As your all aware the stuff in the distance wont ever look as good as the stuff close up otherwise we'd have some serious frame rate hits! They just use a technique to blur out, and 'dumb down' the graphics in the distance! Hence why the MTV shots look better as there both close ups! Killerbee103
I played San Andreas, and it was not that good looking, but I still played it. And i know that screenshots can't judge the Graphics. Wait till you see Gameplay, or look at the screenshots at: www.rockstargames.com/IV Edited March 14, 2008 by Killerbee103
Darrel
Anyone who says the recent screenshots are heavily photoshop are wrong. Compare this screencap of trailer 2 and the MTV exclusive screen shot. It looks pretty much identical, but obviously the recent screen is going to look sharper and more polished becasue trailer 2 was back in the summer of 07. Now stop being silly. CharmingCharlie
EDIT: The PS3 chip has capabilities closer to the 8000 series of NVIDIA GPUs than any other serial. Do you have a source for that ? As far as I can see most tech sources are saying the RSX is a 7800GTX based processor and comes nowhere near a 8800 series card. I would just like to see a bit of proof that the PS3 has the same capabilities as an 8800 because that is not what I am seeing or hearing. Here is my proof :- Staff at Sony were quoted in PlayStation Magazine saying that the "RSX shares a lot of inner workings with NVIDIA 7800 which is based on G70 architecture http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/new...n--geforce-7800 Sorry to go off topic there guys but I don't like to see "misconceptions". As for the issues with the graphics, I think you should reserve judgement till you see the game for yourself, if after that you want to have a Battle Royale about it, then fair enough. Jack-Stowe
Just consider the sheer size of GTA 4 though... thats why. to you. screens may not seem as 'next gen' as they can. u gotta bear that in mind. and i guarantee wen ur playing it will seem a hell lot better
RONIN1191
There's a difference between screenshots with weather effects and those without; but even barring that- how do you know what you've been shown is what it will look like in the game? You don't. R* hasn't said anything; you can believe the previews all you want, until you start to realize that some of them contradict the others, then you have to wonder who to believe? Or, you could just wait for the game to come out, like the rest of us are doing. By the by, COD4 wasn't all that impressive from a graphics standpoint; it did not look THAT much better than COD3. But it should've.

GTA_Godfather
At a low resolution like 720p (1280x720) you can only expect so much. On top of that, R* uses a blur/cloud effect to keep frame rates high. I'm not satisfied with this so, I'm going to let R* get all their beta testing squared away first on the consoles before I opt only version that will do this game justice. If you feel the same I'd advise you to do likewise. You're ready join the feast at the "big boys" table.
