Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
In the amazing Edge Magazine GTA IV posted preview from noxiousd, there was a short section on big band jazz, a first for GTA, noticed in a demo. During the demo we noticed what sounded like a radio station dedicated to big bands - a first for GTA and one whose output provides a different kind of contrast - and we ask Houser for clarification. Sam responds by saying: My dad was one of the directors of [legendary London jazz venue] Ronnie Scott's for many years, so finally we were like, 'Let's do jazz properly.' And he's a real bloody jazz snob so he gave us these tracks and these tracks only - you know, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Coltrane - and that'll be for people like the classical music was in GTAIII. It's very New York and it feels great. I'm taking this as maybe, maybe, classical music is out and classic jazz is in for IV. And frankly, I couldn't be happier. Don't get me wrong, I loved the classical music in GTAIII and LCS, but jazz is an unexplored frontier for the series and it's about time it's included. This pretty much confirms the third of 18 stations. Funk, Russian, now big-band Jazz. I also very much agree with Sam, Jazz Is New York. Crusing the city's streets along the lit-up skyscrapers to the mellow sounds of sax, piano, and drums. In case you're unfamilar with the names Houser mentioned, Parker, Davis, and Coltrane, I've taken the liberty of posting some of their stuff. Great music indeed, very much looking foward to what we hear in the final version of the game. Enjoy, and discuss you're thoughts on the music, genre, and Rstar's decision to go jazz. OptimumPx
Sounds very interesting.....I can't wait till we get a preview of that station...maybe on the 21th when they update again.
JonBidinger
How do we know they will update next on the 21st? They may start updating every week, seeing as there is still 16 stations left to be revealed and the game comes out in six weeks.

1066ant
So I won't need to play my Glenn Miller records in the background anymore, yes that is serious. I am not a big fan of some jazz (the stuff where they play random notes to a weird beat) but I like 40s swing and more melodic jazz. (I listen to "The Jazz" radio station on my new Retro styled DAB Bush radio). The problem is the term "Jazz" covers so many different sub-generes from boogie woogie to swing, it's all completley different.
Silvertone
Now all we need is some J. J. Johnson and Kai Winding to round out all the trumpet and saxophone. Don't get me wrong, I love Miles and Coltrane (I don't listen to anywhere near enough Bird), but you've got to have some great 'bone in there too. release
I'm very excited about this. I'd love to rampage along to Coltrane blazing in the background.

Wrong. A lot of rap blows, but don't judge the whole genre based on what you may have heard recently.

SovietWarrior42
Mainstream rap, I mean. I'd rather listen to classic hip-hop than Soulja Boy who can't rhyme worth 2 sh*ts.
Vanilla Shake
The first video you have posted (by Charlie Parker) just fits the New York mood so good. I really hope that's in the game. Off-topic: Speaking of rap, I think it would be better to have The World is Yours by Nas than most of the mainstream rap heard today. They aren't going to put some lame sh*t in their game. If EA gets a hold of them, it would be a different story.
SovietWarrior42
I was just thinking about the station's icon on the site, I think it's the round one. I think it will be in the shape of a record or something along those lines. If not that one, the bridge shaped one would be my second guess. Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
^ I honestly expect some Sinatra, along with Dean. As for big band/jazz, I'm more than excited for it. Something new for a change, it's gonna be quite awesome to listen to.
crobert0247
I'm really excited to hear this. I have a liking for this music and can't wait to pull the sniper rifle to a Charlie Parker tune. Headshots + jazz music =
Slamman
Does JAzz include New Age music? Liz Story, Tim Story, George Winston, William Ackerman, David Lanz, Mark Isham, Alex DeGrassi?? Even guitarist Craig Chiquico of J. Starship did some acoustic albums in the tradition. Typically New Age is classified under jazz. Even this Steely Dan track has hints of jazz influence, rather strongly. I would say the same about Little River Band, but it is not always the case. I agreed with the magazine the way they wrote it up, that it was a good thing that fell apart. I think it [station] may relate closely with the sound one got in the public radio of VCS when they went back to 1940s radio serials, the music might have been inspired when they were putting that idea together.
