ch0kshsa
there could be a chance that gta IV gets delayed because of this.... sucks.. but VERY possible. Why do you say that? How long of a delay? Why would there be a delay? EA takes over.. they gain control... "oh let's make a few changes here and there..add sine EA logos ingame, etc".... game gets pushed back a few weeks or another month. They could change the name of the game and take out anything with the words "Grand Theft Auto" in the game world and repace them with a new name. Then they could release the SAME game (GTA IV) under a different name.
EL BENSON
I'm sure EA aren't dumb enough to change the "GTA feel" seeing how big the series is you would be suprised, they buy out the market and only make the games worse.

Rectonator
EA are making a move that any other smart business would do. They see a good thing so they wil take it. either by a peacefull takeover or a forcefull one. Eitheir way take-two are finished. As for GTA i think it will not change at all. EA will let rockstar do their stuff plus with the amount of resources EA has i wouldn't be surprised if EA made the game better.

The best expect the worse. kool_J_rap
Does anyone remember how awesome the Def Jam games used to be before EA took over ? Def Jam Icon was a stripped down piece of sh*t probably made with the intention to market "urban clothing" to the white suburban kids who make up EA's demographic
saltinespike
But I heard Rockstar can jump ship in case of drastic change. I don't know. If so, yay. If not, f*cksh*tc*ntf*cker.
Grand Theft Columbo
EA sucks in my opinion. Most games that I've anticipated by them have really let me down, Order of the Phoenix, Batman Begins,Superman Returns etc etc, games that have big studios and money behind them for some reason keep turning to crap. And now they're trying to take the Holiest of Holy down the crapper? I don't think they would ruin IV. Or the next GTA, it's just sad they're trying to take advantage of what they know will be a mega hit, and want to make some duckets off it. Who else would've let Will Wright spend 8 years developing Spore? Who else could've afforded to? I think EA are a lot more conscious of their image regarding innovation killing. In fact, I'd be shocked if informal unofficial talks with the brothers Houser hadn't already taken place regarding their position within a new EA structure. EA have publicly admitted that R* and their IP is the target of the bid and they know that the Housers and The Benz etc can walk when their current contract expires. cps82
Not sure if this has been posted yet? [uPDATE] Several hours after EA's announcement, Take-Two issued a statement urging its shareholders to stand fast. "The board of directors...today recommended that Take-Two stockholders take no action at this time in response to the announcement by Electronic Arts that it has made an unsolicited conditional tender offer to acquire all of Take-Two's outstanding shares of common stock for $26 per share in cash," it said. However, Take-Two also announced it will give EA's offer a second look. The company said that, "Consistent with its fiduciary duties, and in consultation with its independent financial and legal advisers, Take-Two's Board will review and consider EA's offer, and within 10 business days, will advise Take-Two's stockholders of the Board's position regarding the offer as well as its reasons for that position." Assuming the 10-day period started today, Take-Two's response should arrive by or on Wednesday, March 19.

EA is most likely interested in T2 for their sports titles, buying them up would bring ea a monopoly in sports games. gta is maybe more of an extra asset. also, i get the impression that many people here view gta as a sort of underground title that would be ruined if it was mass-marketed ea-style. while ea may change something in case of a takeover, gta IS the biggest franchise already and even EA is unlikely to castrate the best horse in the stable. i also think "skate" has shown that ea is much more willing to take risks with some innovative games, while driving the safe money home with others. they have changed their strategy in the last year or so to give their subdivisions more independence. on the rockstar question there is an short opinion piece on gamesindustry.biz: das click
MCFC
If anything GTA will be more heavily funded, and potentials open up, GTA could really boost from this. If not R* will peal off and publish the game them selves.

Brit-Boi
I've said this before but didn't get an answer. If EA take over they won't fire all the people that made the company so valueable to them in the first place. All the designers, story writers and game makers that make GTA good for take 2, will still be there for EA. Why would EA buy something, then change it all? They just want to own it for the money. They don't need to change the gameplay, Rockstar will just be raking in the profit for someone else.

Sivok
I posted this article in another post and figured I'd add it to this one as well. This deal isn't going to be so bad. Yes they'll make money. But in turn they will practically give Rockstar unlimited funds for future projects. Pretty sure this article sums it up. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6185814.html?...atestnews;img;0 He even admits he made wrong decisions with westwood and other companies that they previously bought and demolished. That takes balls to admit in his position. "The command and conquer model, the command and direct model doesn't work," said Riccitiello. He went on to concede that EA's past post-acquisition tactics backfired badly. Bullfrog, Origin, Westwood--all no longer exist today because something broke. ... and I'll simply state that EA blew it, and to a certain degree, since I was involved, I blew it." Liberty2k7
I doubt that EA are looking to have any creative input into GTA if they manage to aquire T2. Riccitiello seems to be aware of the sheer intellect from the production team at R* (Housers, Les The Benz etc), and possibly realises that it is the certain feel that they can create with the games that make them such top sellers. Besides, they would be idiots to ruin our beloved GTA, they know that they couldn't really get away with it. If the game was to sell more copies I'd eat my hat tbh. VCNMaverick
Well, I hope nothing changes GTA. The things I'm most scared of (besides GTA losing its soul) are: -Countless repetitive billboards advertising generic EA Sports games and random sponsors (Axe, McDonalds, etc.) -Instead of the awesome tourist guide style color manuals we've come to love, flimsy 6-page black & white manuals with almost no information. miqueloz
what do you mean attack? is it so hard to say take2 no? Yes it is hard because shareholders are the ones who's decisions will tell if the company is being sold or not, or something like that. Damn it I'm pretty much sure that GTA IV is going to be ruined... how the hell would GTA IV be ruined? Its already been made. Its the future GTA's that will suffer Well I think they could delay the game and tell R* do redo it their way... Yeah and the Santa comes down and.. wait, what the heck are you talking about? Apollo_33
Just when I thought that we couldn't hate a company more than this... And now. BANG! EA ruins our peaceful lives. For f*ck sakes! EA wants to buy T2 before GTA IV comes out because all the profits will go in their ways. Take-Two, dont let EA ruin your hard work. EA sucks sh*t! TenEightyOne
This deal isn't going to be so bad. Yes they'll make money. But in turn they will practically give Rockstar unlimited funds for future projects. I'm not sure that Rockstar lack development funding to that extent. The way they've gently advertised this game with a bit here, a bit there, and so on shows that they KNOW how to make money. The quality of their output so far (each game ahead of its time in some way) shows that they can develop outstanding product. Let's face it, if you're reading this then you're A PART of their advertising plan - though there's nothing wrong with that. A cynic might say that the October delay was deliberate, it's created even more anticipation than existed already. It seems odd how we're hearing that some major pieces of the game (some multiplayer modes, celeb voiceparts and such like) have only been completed this year. It seems unlikely that Rockstar had any more than the map, the physics and the storyboards last October. And as for EA... ...I love Formula 1 and all driving simulators and have NEVER EVER liked any of the EA F1 series. Bland, simplistic, error-ridden and unrealistic. They have the money to eventually obtain whatever licences they want. So, to cut a loooong post short, money isn't everything. You can't BUY Sam Houser's vision 'cos if you upset him he'll take it somewhere else.
NJ~
Typical EA CEO Riccitiello... If sucking up to Take2 and kissings Rockstar's ass for two weeks didn't work. Just say "Screw 'em" and go for the money greedy stock holders. Now it's up to the shareholders... I hope they won't budge.
