poinpioa
i had a Geforce MX200, it ran really nicely. It was my very first 3D video card. It was fast, the images were crisp and the fan was so so. Well it sloowly died over 3 summers. The first summer of 30 degree C+ heat t=it did really well. The second summer it hung once so I took the cover off and stuck a fan next to the PC. I even stuck melting ice cubes next to the box (very big ice cubes, ice cream tub size). It still hung occasionally. The third summer, it hung for sure after every 20-40 minute sesson of gaming. Then when I rebooted the windws intro screen began to show glitches. Then after a while, it died totally. Just woulnd't boot. Windows would report no card.. so sad...... I liked it because it was really nice and colourful. I'm telling this story so people will be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion. Today I have an ATI 9200SE. Beautiful chery red colour (duh me). AND I HAVE AIRCON. So hopeflly no more card deaths.. Have you had any experiences with slowly dying video cards?
Picolini
Sorry, but are you a woman? I would assume a woman could only be so fascinated by the color... I've only just gotten my first PC which I make sure is clear of dust and has good air flow, so I'm quite sure it won't over heat.
GTA3Freak-2001
I know all to well the issues heat can cause but that was when I was a PC noob, I had a Nvidia TNT2 32MB card that for cooling only had a small square heat-sink. The PC it was in had no fans whatsoever and was generally a dust filled mess and what would happen is the card would get so hot that I'd hear a clang caused by the heat sink melting off the card and hitting the bottom of my case! I didn't get to use it long enough after that for it to die but it did work fine for a little while up until I replaced it.
Democrab
I've had a 6800GS that's overheated 4 times now and still runs fine.
Forfit
I've never fried a videocard and hope i never do. They are too expensive to replace. Edit: Lol what am i talking about it gets replaced like every 8 months anyways.
BuffaloSoldier
One thing I would suggest to anybody that buys a card with an nVidia chipset is to download nTune. NTune is a utility that builds itself into your nVidia Control Panel and helps you monitor all of your vital temperatures, plus helps you overclock your card. !DANGER! Overclock/Tweak AT YOUR OWN RISK. Overclocking isn't for the novice. You can fry your card that way.

BuffaloSoldier
Really? I didn't really know about any other reliable monitoring programs besides nTunes. Is this program free?
GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah nTune is horrible, its always causing my control panel to lock-up and not respond plus the temp gauge is seriously dodgy and downright fiddly.
Democrab
Yeah, RivaTuner and ATItool are better and work wonders, Yes, ATItool works with nVidia cards too
Kimd41
Unlucky poinpioa, but i guess you needed a new graphics card. My nVidia 6600 died while I was sleeping. Everything was fine, fans were spining but it didn't show any image. I still have her.
nlitement
My X1950 Pro overheats from gaming. Piece of sh*t Sapphire make. I also blame all the card manufacturers for making so HOT devices without trying to make them cooler by design, so all they do is put more and more and more and more and more and more and more fans that are noisier and noisier and noisier and noisier and bulkier and bulkier. f*ck them. f*ck you, ATI, and nVidia I think. learn to make your sh*t cooler. It's starting to get really stupid now that everything OVERHEATS all the DAMN TIME, even the 360. Consoles haven't overheated before.. Jesus Christ, and so haven't GPUs until recently. I've never had my GPUs or anything overheat before. I heard Sapphire f*cked up with the X1950 Pro. Is this true?

Maybe i can ask :- 1) Are you running your overclocked PC in an airconditioned room with the aircon on? (what temperature setting) 2) Do you play pc games using the 3D card for 3 hours+ straight during the day with the heatwave? 3) What is the ambient temperature in your room? 4) Isyour pc located in a brick veneer or double brick home and is it on the ground, first or second floor and how many floors above that? 5) Brand name of your video card? 6) Number of fans in your case? just wondering... And the Ram doesn't have anything on it, on the back part of it, and I have it overclocked 100Mhz.
poinpioa
i think its because you have 2 case fans my machine only had 1 case fan all the time. i don't think i would tolerate the noise of 2 in addition to the gpu and cpu fan. for some reason my athlon 1800 stock cooler is way noiser than the stock Intel 1.6 ghz cpu machine i have. BuffaloSoldier
I would suggest buying an XFX card with your next purchase. They have an undeniable and unbeatable lifetime warranty. It's great for ANY problems with your card. You call in, you may sit on hold, and you explain your problem. They will: I. Give you suggestions to fix it. II. Request your e-mail address and send you an RMA number. This RMA number will guarantee you a brand new card. My friend once said, "Maybe I should throw my XFX 6800 out the window because I want a new one." It's a great system.
matthew1g
They weren't as helpful when I had an XFX 6800XT back in the day. Gave me load of BS. Don't get me wrong, their cards are good. But for aftersales service, I prefer Evga or BFG.
Democrab
IMO the best would be eVGA, HIS or DiabloTek if you can find them, my DiabloTek GeForce 6800GS still runs after overheating a bunch of times. And I effectivly have one case fan, ones blocked by the Hard Drives almost completely, and the intel fans usually have some temp control (lower temp = Slower fan), the Athlon XP ones didn't
