MrKlorox
Last night I emailed customer service at my local only non-Wal-Mart chain store that sells games, Hastings Entertainment, about wether or not a Midnight release of GTA4 will happen. My email and the response are as follows: Hello, I am one of many fans greatly anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 on April 29 2008. I have reserved a copy of the $90 collector's edition of the game at my local Hasting's (store# [censored]) and was wondering if there was going to be a Midnight release like with Halo 3. If not, is there any way at all that I can get my game before the store opens (what will seem like an eternity of) 8 hours later? If this is not possible via Hasting's, I will have to find it elsewhere even if I must drive 60 miles to a 24-hour Wal-Mart. Please forward this to my local store's district manager if this issue is store-dependent. Thanks, Ty H. Ty, Hello and thank you for your email. I have spoken with our gaming team here at the corporate office and our stores will be having a midnight release for this item. Please let us know if we can further assist you. Thank you, Amy O Customer Service Team Leader [telephone number censored] The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have. And there you have it. It looks like I'll be playing my copy within 15 minutes of Midnight. Check the Hastings website for store locations (USA only). MrKlorox
Well, they have stores mostly in the south-central United States, and some in the north-western USA. If you're lucky enough to be near one, call it up and ask if they have any copies coming available for to reserve. My local store (in a town of less than 17,000 people) will get 12 copies of the Special Edition 360 version (said the clerk when I put in my reservation). Based on that, I would guess no less than 50 copies of the various versions total. They're "sold-out" online with their website, but stores should be different. SeriousSam
I live near a Hastings, but I reserved my copy at GameStop because I find it to be a more reliable place for games (even though some of the employees know jack sh*t about video games) and I don't really care about a midnight release since I'd rather be sleeping. fitbikesbmx
The closest one to me is like 70 miles away, I pre-orered mine anyway, but that was just because I wanted to make sure I would get the special edition. I have never waited at midnight for the release of any game, but if I hadn't pre-ordered, that might have changed on April 28th.

Heh, nor have I. But I haven't had as much anticipation for any game like I have for GTA4. Besides, I'm quite nocturnal, so if I wasn't playing it at 1 AM, I'd be sitting awake twiddling my thumbs for 9 more hours.
