Otter
Hey fellas. I'm working on a TV spot at the moment that requires me to make decent footage out of crappy source. As you can see, I'm dealing with VHS color bleeding, BURNED IN TIMECODE, and interlaced footage. So what I've done is, deinterlaced with interpolation, blew it up to crop out the timecode, applied a Photoshop reduce noise filter to deal with some of the resultant color artifacts and, finally, applied a thin layer of noise for "artificial sharpness." I'm not entirely happy with the results, and I'd love to know if you fellas have any tips.

Picolini
I use Alien Skin Blow Up, it works quite well. It's best is at increasing the resolution (total pixels, not width/height) by 2, 3 times tops.
Otter
So im guessing your trying to make it look good? Good is a distant wish at this point. I'm just trying to make it look less bad. The unfortunate side of uprezzing video is that you have to deinterlace it first, losing a lot of detail. @ Pic - I'll look into it. Does it allow batch processing? Would suck to manually tweak 900 frames. Edit - hey, now that looks pretty cool. Thanks for the tip. Otter
Yeah, cool thing about video these days is that you can export it all as an image sequence, then setup a batch procedure in photoshop. My producer finally got a hold of the digital beta masters, though, so things are looking a lot better. I found that my process wasn't too shabby - using a smart sharpen allowed for a bit more detail as well. If I pick up any more tidbits, I'll let y'all know.
