Gta Sa, as of November last year, has sold 20 million copies total. Halo 3 has achieved 8 million copies. Yes, Gta Sa came out several years ago, but I don't think the sales right now are going to make a big difference. Maybe Gta IV will beat Halo 3's record on its first day, but there is no doubt that it will sell much more afterwards. Just hope that EA doesn't take over--Take 2, don't give in! it came out 10/26/04 thats barely 4 yrs ago lol how u get 7? He said several years ago. Not seven years ago. yagz Posted March 13, 2008 Share Posted March 13, 2008 In my eyes, it would be closer to 17 million than 9 million, just somehow I think that this game is gonna make a big impact, and I mean big... easy way to figure this out, is compare the sales with previous GTAs, this game is more globally known now, so it would most likely sell more than double GTASA Your theory is way off....because at the time San Andreas was released how many people owned a ps2 and xbox??? alot more then the people who own a ps3 and xbox 360 currently thats for sure.... so ofcource san andreas sold so many copies....ps2 owners and xbox owners are far more in numbers then xbox 360 and ps3 owners....there is no comparison. gamefarter Posted March 13, 2008 Share Posted March 13, 2008 To clear things up, the 9 million is predicted to happen by October, whereas the 17 million is the prediction for the total # of sales of the game through it's lifespan. adrian949 Posted March 13, 2008 Share Posted March 13, 2008 well there are like 19-17 million 360s sold and like 11 million ps3 have been sold, so thats 29-27 million total, i would say 2 thirds of all these people will buy a copy eventually, so thats about 18-19 million copies. the 17 milliong guess seems very logical from that site. He said "game in history" not "game in the series". GTA and Pokemon are both games... and the latter is a HUGE contender in the Japanese market... unlike GTA. EDIT: @Yagz: Also, don't discount the PC version of GTA:SA which was released the same day as the Xbox version. bobbagoose Posted March 13, 2008 Share Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) I dunno but I was reading the guinnes world record book gamer edition and it said san andreas sold 9 Million copys within a week just in the UK alone and the GTA franchise is the 1st British game company to go Diamod. No no no....the UK population is around 60mil, so you're suggesting that one in every 6 people bought GTASA in the first wekk of release. If the book says that, then the book is clearly wrong. It's gotta be 9 million worldwide if anything. Use some common sense people! Anyway, I reckon IV will sell 6-8 mil week one. and perhaps 14 mil total. Sure it's on the conservative side, but there aren't as many 360's and PS3s around right now as there were PS2s when SA was released. Considering the fact that Halo has sold over 10 million copies now. So I'd expect at least 10 million 360 owners will buy GTA IV, and 2 or so million from PS3. As the months go to years the install base of both consoles will grow and we'll start to see bigger numbers sold of IV than SA has ever sold. Just a matter of time. I would not be surprised if GTA IV is the top selling game of the year, and goes on to break sales records over the next couple of years as the stragglers get caught up in the 'mainstream' of next-gen systems.
