Lets hope for the sake of the Grand Theft Auto Franchise that Take Two will not close the deal. Article "In the subject of the EA's proposal to acquire Take-Two, Pachter expects a resolution before the publisher's AGM on April 10, possibly even before the end of the month. "We expect that in order to save face, Take-Two management will withdraw its demand that any discussions wait until after the launch of GTA IV, and we think that management will engage in discussions with EA," he said. "We think that EA prefers to complete a friendly deal, and think that it is possible that Take-Two management can convince EA of the extent to which EA may have undervalued Take-Two shares, and believe that as a conciliatory gesture, EA management may be prepared to increase its likely USD 26 offer to somewhere close to USD 27." The possibilities are that EA will definitely screw the GTA franchise up and the next GTA will be riddled with bugs, they will most likely make you buy 6 expansions with it. Really for GTAIV there probably won't be any noticeable effect. However you can kiss GTA as know it goodbye. Taketwo apparently has the rights to GTA, not R*... so even if R* were to bail out in 2009 when their contract is up, EA would hold the rights to GTA. No doubt every 12 months we'd be getting a new GTA game, but it would be of Saint's Row quality. The one beacon of hope might be that EA realizes that and wants to keep R* on board for GTA development. If that were the case R* would be given some leverage in negotiating terms. So EA would be publishing/distributing GTA.... but it would still be R*'s creation. This is a slim chance though... chances are they'll look at Saint's Row which was a major success and decide that they don't need R*. EA doesn't really care about quality.... they care about profit. There has not been another game in my eyes that hasn't been as popular as R*s titles, EA's games are depressingly similar in every way. Even though the GTAs are, at least their games as a whole have a different range to each of them. If EA take over GTAs productions and replace R*, then all the other GTAs made by them will be pretty f*cking sh*t in my eyes, Take Two will lose lots of money from the game as EA can't really put as much comedy into the game as R* could ever do and there will probably be no character in the GTAs anymore. Sorry if anyone else feels different about EA if they will take over, but this is my opinion. EAs games are good I must admit, but when they will try to make a GTA by themselves, it just won't be the same, you just can't beat a fresh R* game which you have waited ages for... It's pretty f*cking clear that GTA is already extremely successful, why would EA intentionally compromise that? Rockstar know what they're doing, and I'm sure EA are damn aware of that. You can bitch about EA all you want, but they know how to do business. And overly-interfering with a successful franchise is not good business. I think most of you are full of sh*t. If the R* label is on it I would most likely buy it, regardless of whether it said EA or TakeTwo on the label... I feel like R* won't make a sh*tty product. If you asked me a few months ago if I would have bought an EA(without R*) made GTA I would probably have said yes (or lie and say no lol)... but after listening to everyone saying how bad Saint's Row was... I didn't believe them... and I bought it... and I have desire to waste my money on a similar sh*tty product again. I just feel like if EA put out its own GTA game it would be like the bastardized son of Saint's Row and True Crime... and it would suck. 5HT2a Posted March 12, 2008 Share Posted March 12, 2008 While the R* team would still have the power to create the game to their liking under EA, EA will pressure them to complete the game as soon as possible, leaving all sorts of bugs in and not allowing the attention to detail that gta iv supposedly will have. We would have had GTA IV in October had this happened then, with all the bugs still in there and major fixes needed. EA have done this several times before to other companies they have taken over, and it will happen again if they keep R*. To all the people who doubt that EA will have a negative effect on the gta franchise, do some research. Read EA's wiki and use google to find out what the consequences of their greed has been.
