So I just moved into a new apartment. I've almost always lived with roommates but I finally have a suitable one-bedroom apartment in which I can lounge around naked in all I desire. A dream come true.

The problem is that, being a young bachelor, I blew all my money and have been sitting around without furniture or any decorations! Oh no!

What?

Na, nice place man, and some good ideas. Looks a lot better than my first place ill tell you that for nothing.

Sweet! I've always wanted to know how to "ghetto-out" my crib! Now I can do it by myself with this useful guide! Thanks man!

Seriously though, nice tips. This should be useful when I go off to college with no money whatsoever. cryani.gif

I've got too much empty wall space and I have no f*cking clue how to fill it up. I've already got some prints in one area so I'd rather not overdo those, any suggestions? I may just buy some more 12x12 frames and frame some of my most expensive records, but I dunno, that would seem kind of wasteful if I can't play them.

I too share your interest for box furniture - in my apartment in Seattle, I had a futon, and used the box, supported by smaller boxes, as a coffee table. And seeing as I'm moving almost every quarter due to my coop-school schedule, I ended up buying an airbed. Not just an air mattress, but an air bed frame too. It's a queen size, and once you keep it fully inflated and put one of those sheet cushions on it, you can't tell it's an airbed.

As of recently, I've been living in a (currently) permanent residence, and I've installed some built-in shelving, bought some yard sale and thrift store furnishings (I've washed them), and I'm set.

This is the only thing I currently have on my wall. Last semester, I had a much better place that I cared more about, and I had a really cool wall with random bits and piece of stolen subway adverts that I strapped to the wall along with some original artwork.

I have a couple of old formula one posters and a bob dylan kind of poster along with a poster of Vice City signed by Cyndi Lauper. Yeah, I know.

On my other wall I have some old license plates and a huge poster of a saxophone with smoke coming out of it.

My wall paper is several magazine posters... ONLY

I am on a serious budget ALL the time, pretty much.

My room (1 bedroom Apt too) is 3 Metallica posters dating to 1984 to the haircuts and suits Garage Inc Metallicatz days.

One Rust In Peace era Megadeth poster. Ronnie James Dio signed 1985 poster, and San Andreas PS2 inclosed wall map!

I also have the one from the reissued Pink Floyd The Wall DVD anniversary pack.

Your Worst Nightmare poster with a Lamborghini cop car! (actual patrol car, BTW!)

And one of my folks at their cabin. You have to have some personal pics... and my fridge has a number of pics stuck up.

My walls are otherwise white and worked well for my LCD front projector.

I moved once... Out of the folk's basement! I paid rent there for a time! Luckily I wasn't 40 at the time! hahaha

When I got this place, I was blocks from work and for a year or so both my younger sister and brother stayed here while I worked. They were supposed to be here as a courtasy but invited friends over and basically partied and made a damn mess that left this place rather run down. I never was able to fix the carpet I have... still a mess after all these years, but I can relate to that walking around naked all by yourself... I have heard some women who admit to it too, How can you NOT like that!?! haha

Great ideas =)

About the paintings: you could arrange them in several different ways on the wall, making drawings or geometrical shapes. Similar to what some people do with their desktop icons.

My decoration tip regarding walls is: if you don't have paintings to hang, make the walls look interesting. Put some texture there, paint something on the wall, make thick lines with pastel color shades, whatever. Oh, and if you wanna put posters on a living room, frame them for that "fancy" look.

By the way, anyone ever seen this?

Well to cover up my walls I've got up about 3 frames full of pictures of me and my friends growing up. It's a pretty cheap way if you still have normal photos because frames are cheap as hell. Even the big ones like I've got. If not you could get the photos on your memory card/stick put onto a photo from a shop but I'm not sure of the price.

I haven't put any of my own art pieces up where I'm living right now other than my music room. My sister's the homeowner, and she's not sure about anything like a sweet batman painting or conquistador portrait I found. I've got a good amount of prints and paintings I still need to hang up. However,

This is the shelving I was talking about. Looks great, and gives a lot more room to put stuff up.

Here's an example of where I actually have wall hangings.

And here's something that's just awesome. Small dry bar with shelves. biggrin.gif

MindCorrupt

I used to have about 10 big arse stolen road works signs in my room. There was something about stealing road signs when I was pissed that I enjoyed. Then when I got my room painted I got rid of them all except a big arrow that points to my bed (which is handy when youre a bit stumbly).

Although I dont have my own place yet (I'm still in secondary school so go figure) i cant wait to get one and have my own space.

ANd about the whole roadsign thing, eversince my sister once brought home a stolen roadworks sign after a drunken stumble home I've wanted to decorate my room with some roadsigns. By this i mena real roadsigns that re attached to signposts and the like, not roadwork stand-up ones.

Theres a particular one near my house that i have never seen anywhere else, it's your typical red triangle warning sign, except its got a silhouette of a duck on it (because it's next to a duck pond). On one of the nights before i move away to university or something, that sign will be mine devil.gif

Have you seen bedroom graffiti, just get a few spray cans and design a nice mural for your wall.

some examples of the net.

Relatively cheap aswell, get like 20 cans of paint and just do it yourself, and if your terrible at art or painting then have a friend do it for you.

Well if you are a graffiti artist that tags walls then spraying your bedroom is a big no no. Just incase you get caught and pictures of your walls are handed in as evidence.

why dont you go to your nearest games, dvds, music stores and get some posters of your favorites?

i have a huge full metal jacket poster on my bedroom walls.

Yup, my first and still my only bass (I've had it for 8 years).

yeah my first bass was a p-bass as well tounge2.gif

However 5 basses later I've found myself playing this:

(sorry about the douche in the background, but my camera needs new batteries and i don't have any on hand, so this will have to do turn.gif ) Talked the salesman at my local shop down to 650.00 . Quite a steal

But anyways back on topic...

I like the boxes under the bed idea, it'd never really occured to me to try that before. Yet now that I'm finally poor enough to find the idea of a box spring literally made of boxes plausable, I think i'll give it a go icon14.gif
