adstone1237
I was playing my game on a different user account than the one my savegame was on (changed the password and forgot it the next day ) and doing basic stuff e.g. do missions, screw around, mod, etc. I always started a new game and never saved (I used cheats and I don't save when they're on), and so when I finally remember my password, I load the game, and as I click on my save file to load it, the game freezes and then I can't do anything but turn off my computer. PC specs: Windows XP SP2 64MB ATI Radeon 7000 series AMD Athlon XP 3100+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8 Ghz 1024MB RAM F.Y.I. don't say, "Oh, it's the video card" Cause I'll just ignore you. The game worked with it fine a few days ago. Another piece of info: as I was playng on my other user account, I wanted to increase the draw distance (Was getting this weird blackness on the road about 50m ahead of me while driving) and as I click on Advanced, the game freezes for a few seconds and then the 'GTA SA needs to close' window pops up and shuts the game down. PS I occasionally use a game pad but that shouldn't make a difference. EDIT: I think I found the problem. The game and Dxdiag both said they couldn't find a sound card (It's an onboard soundcard). How do I fix this? Edited March 12, 2008 by adstone1237
Girish
EDIT: I think I found the problem. The game and Dxdiag both said they couldn't find a sound card (It's an onboard soundcard). How do I fix this? Have you accidentally uninstalled the audio drivers? If you are not sure, then it'd be a good idea to reinstall them. Perhaps, look for updates too and don't forget to delete the set file from the User Files folder.
adstone1237
nevermind, I fixed that. I performed a diskchk of the hard drive and it seemed to fix it. Also disregard my 'Another piece of info' part, that went away. But can you explain the blackness I saw on the road 50m ahead of me? It occurs on the road under the Mullholand Intersection and on the freeway LS>SF as I pass Angel Pine. It then continues to and in SF. btw I got there with the Never Wanted cheat (haven't finished all the LS missions yet).

This is a know bug, and the only way I know to fix is to play on high detail settings. Usually playing on low detail, causes this problem to happen. adstone1237
Well I can't play with high detail or the game will lag. Remember I only have a 64MB video card. Maybe i'm misunderstanding you what do you mean by high detail?
gtamodder
Well I can't play with high detail or the game will lag. Remember I only have a 64MB video card. Maybe i'm misunderstanding you what do you mean by high detail? In advanced options in display, the FX Quality, there is low, medium, high, very high detail. You could be fine on 800 x 600 x 32 with FX Quality to high. And your CPU And RAM Seemed enough to run the game that high, I have the same RAM, And similar CPU To yours, and I can run on 800 x 600 x 32 with FX Quality at high with no lag and roads problem. And I remember in your other topic, you said you didn't have a PCI Express slot, well you can buy a new motherboard, which aren't too much, and then the card you bought in Mid January would be compatiable then, and you could get better even. adstone1237
The game lagged a little when I had it at 800x600x32 and the FX quality set on low. I also returned that video card.
