I would say it's Kimi's best chance at a win this season, I hope he does win both because I like him a lot as a driver and it would shake things up after the 5 week break, makes things a lot tighter for the remaining races of the season.

Tough for Webber. He has got a five-place grid penalty because of a gearbox change. It's not the first time Webber has had bad luck and he really needs too score more points from now on. Spa is a circuit that should suit Webber though and he could still have a good weekend if he qualifies high today.

So Jenson Button is on Pole Position for the first time in a Mclaren-car.. I certainly didn't think he would win the qualifying today, rather Alonso or maybe Vettel. Kimi will start from third position which is quite good. He might take Lotus first victory of the season tomorrow but then I think there are many candidates for the top positions. Even the Sauber-cars managed to drive well today.

Massa qualified 14th. I really hope Ferrari gets rid of him as soon as possible.

And what can I say about Mercedes? It's just getting worse and worse..

wasn't kimi 4th and maldonado 3rd?

I was really surprised when I found out it was Button's first pole for mclaren and even more surprised when I found out it was his first pole since monaco in 2009, I think he can convert it into a win if he's as consistent as he was in qualifying.

speaking of Massa and Ferrari, if he does get replaced I'd like to see Di Resta replace him, I think he's a great driver but hasn't really had much of a chance to prove it so far being at Force India.

Congrats to Button!! The start was horrible, my favourite driver (Alonso) getting caught up in it was a massive shame, but oh well, I'm still happy for Button at least. F*cking Grosjean..

Grosjean and Maldonado are F1:s two troublemakers. They haven't learned their lessons yet.

Everything looked good for Schumacher during the beginning of the race and I actually thought he could be in 4th or 5th position at the end of the day. But then he drives for Mercedes which is an extremely struggling team nowadays.

Grosjean has a race ban from Monza and Maldonado a 10 place penalty at Monza for jump starting and a collision with Glock.

That was a tough and harsh decision because we rarely see any race bans in F1. But I guess it was a right decision because what Grosjean did was unacceptable and he has been involved in collisions before. Not that those other cirumstances really matters though. I'm not suprised that Maldonado was punished either. Both these guys are hot-tempered in race situations at times.

Eat willies Alonso!

Anyone except him for the DWC, please and thankyou. Even if it means Vettel again.

You know if I had to put money on anyone winning apart from Alonso -- then it'd be Vettel. He's a sneaky bugger.

But honestly, I don't mind if Alonso wins this year. I just want to see Kimi win at least ONE race.

Also, Grosjean race ban -deserved it, and it means D'AMbrosio gets a drive next week.

Also, Williams, please ditch Maldonando now. He's not worth the money he brings.

Hamilton on Pole Position tomorrow!

Schumacher will start in fourth position. That's the sixth time this year he starts in the Top-4. I really hope he has a problemfree race tomorrow! This circuit should suit him.

I have no idea what happened to Alonso. 10th in Q3...

Too bad di resta has a penalty for a gearbox change, I don't think he's ever qualified that high before, I would have liked to see what he can do starting from fourth.

Ferrari has confirmed mechanical problem for Alonso during q3. Poss rear anti-roll bar failure.

Lewis Hamilton won the 20th victory of his career at Monza today. That was also his third victory of the season and he's now second in the Drivers' Championship. Alonso was another big 'winner' today with a third position and Button, Vettel and Webber didn't even score any points.

Too bad Schumacher couldn't get a top-5 position. He was just behind Kimi in the end who got the fifth place.

It's kind of weird that the 3 drivers that went out in the 1st corner at spa were all on the podium today. Unlucky for Button and Vettel, I don't think that should have been a drive through for him but he had a mechanical problem anyway.

It was an alright race, feel really sad for Button though. I'm glad Alonso finished 3rd, I thought that Vettel clearly forced him off the road but whatever... he paid the price for it. Shame he had an alternator failure again though.

It feels like it has been a while since contracts for the next season was signed. I'm really looking forward to see if Hamilton signs for Mclaren or Mercedes for 2013. There have been many rumours about him lately.

Unfortunately it looks Massa will stay at Ferrari escpecially since di Montezemolo once again has said that Perez is not mature enough to drive for Ferrari. He might be serious after all? I have heard som rumours that Kovalainen or Hülkenberg might be candidates for the Ferrari seat, but I don't know about that..

  • 2 weeks later...

Lewis Hamilton is on Pole Position for tomorrow's Singapore Grand Prix. This is his fifth Pole Position of the year and Mclaren now has four consecutive poles.

Hopefully it's going to be an interesting race tomorrow. The GP2 race earlier this day was very entertaining and it's possible to overtake other cars on this Marina Bay Circuit. Furthermore, the tyre strategy will be very important tomorrow.

By the way, there have been four F1-races in Singapore so far and every race has been over 1 hour and 55 minutes long. The time limit is 2 hours. It's going to be a long race tomorrow. 61 laps on this long circuit...

Well...

They are usually so long because there hasnt been a single race without a significant collision. Im expecting the same this year. The track is just so tight... and with the likes of Maldonado at the front, anything can happen.

I think quali was a slight disappointment because Lewis won by half a second. Now the race is going to depend on pit-stops.

Today it was yet another Singapore race that was over 1 hour and 55 minutes long. Overall, I thought it was a quite good race.

After today's race, I guess we can count out Webber and Button from the Championship battle. And it sure looks a little bit darker for Raikkonen and Hamilton now. Vettel is 29 points after Alonso, I think, which is not too much. Eventually the championship might be decided between just Vettel and Alonso, but on the other hand there are six races to go and much can happen.

Timo Glock was 12th today. Good for him. The last time he was 12th or better was in Singapore's GP in 2009 when he was in second place in the end.

Could you please specify your opinion for God's sake? Instead of writing a useless statement? I haven't written anything that mentions that I thought the race was boring unless my sentence earlier means something different in formal English. English is not my first language you know. The race was 2 hours long. It has nothing to do with my subjective thoughts of race race. You understand?

Besides, I see you write your post in plural. "Most pointless posts" Again, can you please specify what you mean? What's wrong with my earlier posts?

Your current answer doesn't say anything..

So then, Lewis to Mercedes and Perez snatched from a dithering Ferrari to replace him.

Will be interesting to see what Lewis can do in the Mercedes (indeed it will be interesting to see how Rosberg stacks up) and whether Ferrari were right to say Perez isn't ready. Personally I reckon Ferrari will end up with egg on their faces and Lewis will be to Nico as Nico is to Michael.

I think this may lead to Massa being able to cling onto his seat for another year before Ferrari make a move for Vettel.

Also Alguersuari has said he will be racing for a midfield team next year, which would likely suggest he'll be replacing Sergio 'Checo' Perez Mendoza at Sauber.

I wonder if Schumacher will finally retire or if he'll try and get a seat for another team. I hope he just decides to finally retire because he won't get a drive at any good team.

Well...

That certainly was a surprising move by Hamilton. Perhaps he just wanted a bit more freedom (more cash wont hurt neither).

Id love to see him get another chance. He was actually quite decent in TR.

It's either Sauber or Ferrari the way I see it, but it wouldn't suprise me if it's even more likely that he'll retire once again. I don't mind seeing him in one more season if he can have a competitive car though. He hasn't really driven a competitive car since his comeback. confused.gif Well, maybe Mercedes had a quite good pace in the beginning of this season, but because of Schumacher's back luck there couldn't be any good results.

Ferrari won't be changing their team. They will keep Massa for another year and then get Vettel. Sauber will have someone come up through the ranks. The only thing I can see happening is Schumacher joining the staff at Mercedes or at another team.

I think Ferrari were nailed on to replace Massa with Perez at the end of the season but then half way through the season Vettel pipes up and says he wouldn't turn down a chance to join Ferrari. What are Ferrari going to think of that? Vettel's contract ends in a year, so does Massa's contract. You can't sign Perez for one year and then send him off to another team. Unfair to him and they would have to give him a huge fee for cancelling his contract. They must have told this to Perez and then the ball was rolling in regards to his uncle getting him a talk and drive at McLaren (Who has now become his manager). I think Ferrari had to let Perez leave their youth program out of respect really because they knew he was good enough for a top drive and he isn't going to get it at Ferrari with Vettel now ready to go. It's win win for everyone apart from Schumacher unless he planned to stop driving before all this in which case it really is win win for everyone.

Mercedes have a very good car, everyone seems to think it's rubbish because Rosberg and Schumacher are doing terrible. Rosberg is constantly getting into the top 6. Schumacher is just not good enough anymore. That crash last week said it all really. With Hamilton in that Mercedes I can see them changeling for race wins more often, they have the master that is Ross Brawn and their team are very imaginative when it comes to finding new parts. Even though double DRS is banned for 2013 look who came up with it and what a system that is.

Hamilton is the fastest driver on the grid but the problem is he wants way too much money, he wants the fame, the big contracts. McLaren did the right thing. Perez is down to earth for now so they have got a top driver where they won't have to pay a lot and will get the fastest car on the track. Hamilton was already the highest paid driver on the grid and he still wanted a pay rise. What the hell is wrong with him. It's all that new PR/Management team he has after sacking his dad. He really wants to push for lots of money and lots of fame. Fair enough the McLaren has not been reliable but it's much more than that.

We'll just have to wait and see. I do expect Hamilton to do well though, he is not in a crap car. I don't know why people think that.

Interesting points, RED_, but you say

>Vettel's contract ends in a year, so does Massa's contract.

Massa's contract is up at the end of this year.Personally, I do think they'll replace him. This is only Fernando's 2nd year of a 5 year contract. The way ferrari works is they have a clear 1 and 2 driver. Fernando is the no.1 and they wouldn't put someone like vettel in there even at the end of next year.

I think Ferrari will take either DiResta or Hulkenburg.

Also

>Even though double DRS is banned for 2013 look who came up with it and what a system that is.

It really hasn't been working that well for them. It's a bit like what Renault-Lotus did last year with the front-exiting exhaust. It seemed like it'd be effective at first but then they have to develop the whole car around it for the rest of the year -- and it seems to be more problems and complications the further they get.

Honestly, I don't think Mercedes will even be in the top 3 next year either. But 2014 when things change they might make up some ground. Hamilton is looking at the long game.
