When did they change the good ol' "bus stop" chicane at the end? That always sent a few drivers packing. tounge.gif

How did it use to be?

Its still there, nonethless.

Stefan.

It used to be a left-right chicane followed by a right-left chicane. From an aerial view it looked similar to a parking spot. It always confused a lot of drivers and often strained the brakes due to the long straight before. Now it's straightened out more.

Cool.

I was watching F3 (i think) today and they were at Spa.

I saw quite a few great passing manovures at the bus stop, one by the eventual leader who also made a magnificent pass to get into P1 on the corner striaight after El Rouge.

I miss watching Spa, it always produces some classical passing manouvres and produces some really good results. If you can, you should have a look at the 2000 race, because it was in the wet, and I believe Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher had a long string of passing oppurtunities, especially at the end of the really long back straight (I forgot the name).

Yeah, while i was watching it today, i heard something about an amazing over-taking manouvure going on between Mika and someone else, and then Micheal comes right around both of them and takes P1. Sounded cool.

I'll look for it on YT.

How farking exciting was that?

I cheered like a madman when Kimi hit the wall!

Hamilton was just pure lucky to only lose one spot when he span at the end of lap 1.

HAMILTON HAMILTON HAMILTON HAMILTON!

Most exhilarating race in a long while. Awesome job by Hamilton, Raikkonen unbearably unlucky as always, Heidfeld clinging onto his contract with BMW-Sauber.

The last few laps were tooth grindingly exciting.

Sweet motherf*cking baby Jesus, if that wasn't the most exhilarating last 2 laps of a GP then I don't know what is.

That was just epic. Time to find a youtube link of it methinks biggrin.gif

LOL yeah, I was out of my seat.

Great race by Lewis. I knew as soon as it started to rain he would win it.

Very well raced even up to that point, always stayed close and just waited.

Really good driving.

It would have been good if they were dogging it out for at least another lap. That was all over the place, very unconventional and entertaining.

This is just undermining the entire sport. Seriously, this along with Massa's incident in Valencia (considering Karun Chandok was given a penalty for the exact same thing in an earlier GP2 race) is making me feel that the stewards are just trying to stop one driver running away with the title and thus upping the ratings all the way through to the end of the season. F1 should be a sport, not a TV whore.

The ruling has pretty much put a smear over the whole days proceedings as far as I'm concerned. Even more amusing is the fact advantage or not, it would've seen exactly the same outcome in the end anyway.

Seems to me that all the punishing penalties are still squarely against Mclaren since the spygate scandal of last year, even though it's supposedly "in the past".

Can't wait til next week at Monza to hear the whole "ZOMG conspiracy against Mclaren!" the F1 ITV guys will no doubt come out with though.

He let the guy re-pass for f*cks sake.

I hope they appeal. He did nothing wrong. mad.gif

Its a crook of sh*t. What did they expect? Him to stop altogether?

Mark is right, it has totally undermined the sport. He was the better driver in the end and thats what should have mattered.

Im still unsure how they can give him a f*cking penalty, HE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY!

Then he let him pass, then passed him again. f*cking retards.

Aye, he either had the chance of colliding with Kimi or taking to the runoff. Mclaren apparently have telemetry showing Lewis was travelling slower than Kimi as they passed the finish line anyway, which is the basis of their appeal, as if he didn't miss the chicane and was merely following Kimi through it he would've been behind him and slower due to exiting the corner later.

Thing that's stupid though is that a driver who was simply outclassed by the 2 drivers infront of him has been handed the win. Felipe is a talented driver granted, but this afternoon he was lucky enough to finish 2nd after being consistently off the pace, let alone 1st.

The move had no bearing on the final standings (pre-penalty) either.

If there's any other decision that takes away from the racing this year, I simply will stop watching. The stewards seem to be making decisions based on what will bring in the greatest TV ratings, not on what's good for the sport as a fair competition. Formula One is a great sport, but decisions after the last 2 years are making it seem like a joke. It's almost on par with wrestling. It isn't racing, it's drama.

EDIT:

Some of you guys might be interested in taking a few seconds to sign that. They mean jack, but hey, it's made me feel better. Four thousand people have already signed it anyway.

Guys, rules are rules.

I know your upset (as would I if it had been a driver I supported) but these things happen. He's not the only one to have a questionable decision gone against him.

Btw, Mark, I think you're getting a little carried away with the whole 'conspiracy' thing. Yeah, in the end it's all about money but no way this is all a ploy about TV ratings.

The FIA Wiki has been vandalised, I think...

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, commonly referred to as the FIA, is a non-profit association established as the Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus (AIACR) on June 20, 1904 to represent the interests of motoring organisations and motor car users. The FIA is currently governed according to the 'red rule', whereby the Ferrari team is always given preferential treatment. To the general public, the FIA is mostly known as the governing body for many motor racing events.

Headquartered at 8, Place de la Concorde, Paris, the FIA consists of 213 national member organisations in 125 countries worldwide.[1] Its current president is Max Mosley.

As is the case with football's FIFA, the FIA is generally known by its French name and acronym, even in English-speaking countries, but is occasionally rendered as International Assistance for Ferraris.

Actually, looking at the recent history people have been vandalising it all week.

Honestly, who cares? A petition?

Am I the only Formula One fan that feels that this is over the top? Sure, if this happened to my favourite driver I would feel upset, but I honestly think that a petition is too far. Like Maverick. said, these things happen, because everyone interprets events differently. It doesn't matter if Hamilton let Raikonnen pass again, he should have slowed down while off track to let Raikonnen pass.

You're making too much of this, it's just a sport. Damn.

When has that ever happened before when a driver has gone off the track and gained a place? WHEN have they ever slowed down while off the track? NEVER.

They get back on the track and yield the place. Hamilton did this.

So no rules were broken.

Fair enough then, I guess I must have seen a different incident. Apologies.

However, what I'm trying to say is that nobody can change it, and that it's just bad luck. In the end, he still finished third, and he's still in the Championship lead, so it's not like anything is different. Just the tally of points.

I like you think that it is a tad harsh (I think for something as minor as that it should be a ten second penalty) but... what can we do?

Sounded like a great race. I hardly saw any of it at all really.

I saw the Hamilton incident and i must say that 25-seconds is a very harsh penalty. I dont mind though, it brings Massa to within 2 points of the lead and gives him a whole lot of hope for championship success. I believe he'll win his home GP at the end of the season, in Brazil.

this whole 25sec pen is a farce, i watched the incident and i came to these conclusions

a> there was contact that forced lewis to go off in the first place

b> if he were to turn back inside off the cicane he would have colided with kimi forcing them both outh

c> the track was greasy and wet and turning sharply from speed would have forced a spin out like kimi showed later

hopefully the appeal from mclaren will go through today and it will be over turned. but it looks like ferrarri win again by the FIA granting Mclaren doing "wrong" again!

Twenty-five seconds is the time the FIA give for a driver through penalty after a race has finished. The time it takes to slow down, drive through the pit lane on the speed limiter, and then accelerate back up to racing speed is on average 25 seconds.

We'll see when it comes to the International Court of Appeal I guess.

This years becoming an awful lot like 1976...

Controversy began in Spain where Hunt was initially disqualified from first place, giving the race to Lauda, only for the decision to be overturned on appeal months later. The six wheeled Tyrrell confounded the sceptics by winning in Sweden, with Lauda third and Hunt fifth.

Hunt won in France and, it seemed, in Britain, but the race had been restarted after a first lap pile-up and Hunt re-started in a spare car which was against the rules. He was eventually disqualified after an appeal from Ferrari, whose own driver, Regazzoni, had also re-started in a spare. Lauda became the official race winner.

Lauda then crashed heavily in Germany and appeared likely to die from his injuries. Hunt won the race and finished fourth to John Watson's Penske (the team's only win) in Austria. Miraculously, Lauda returned to finish fourth in Italy, where Hunt, Jochen Mass and Watson were relegated to the back of the grid for alleged infringements of the regulations.

Mclaren have launched an appeal, it's gotta go to the FIA Internation Court of Appeal 1st though (kangaroo court if you ask me, it was the same court that dealt with Spygate)

The FIA have been known to go back on their decisions in the past, but not in recent history. Last time I can recall is when Ferrari had illegal barge boards during the Schumacher years.

Lauda came out today saying that its absolute bollox that 3 stewards (probably linked insome way with ferrarri) took the insident to where it is now. But i think hes got a good chance of winning over the appeal as he let kimi back infront, theres no rule of how long hes got to stay infront is there?!?!?!?
