Let's hope not. icon14.gif Robby managed to qualify in fourth, which is a good position, but that's on the 'dirty' side of the Hungaroring.

I don't get it; can someone explain to me why it's so dirty?

It's rarely used all other times of the year and it's the least used side of the circuit. Everyone stays on the left hand side as they go along the straight, so as a result all the dirt and marbles get pushed over to the right hand side. Whilst they'll be cleared off the grid for the start, it's not been rubbered in as the cars do not repeatedly drive over that part, so it won't be as grippy and thus "dirty".

BMW don't really have much of a chance for the rest of the season. After all, Mario Thiessen said they're focusing on '09 now.

Ah, I see, thank you. smile.gif

I know we don't have a chance for the rest of the season, but it's good for the team overall to try and get a few more excellent results ahead of the new season.

Massa drove excellently in Q1 and Q2. It was a shame he had to be bumped off the front row in the Pole shootout.

Now, it is an all McLaren frontrow, first time that has happened since Monza, last year.

Hamilton must've driven very well on his last qualifying lap, he beat his own P1 time.

It was a suprise for me to see Heikki there as i thought, up until the last minute, that Massa had taken out P2.

I was wondering where the f*ck Raikkonen was, i barely saw him at all during the whole qualifying.

He qualified 6th. wink.gif

Tips on the race, anyone? I think that Hamilton will make it three in a row.

My predictions? Hamilton win, Ferrari's strategy cause Massa and Kovy to switch places, Kimi ends up 4th. Either that or Felipe jumps Heikki into turn 1.

To be fair, unless Lewis f*cks up badly, he's got it in the bag. Sure Ron Dennis said that Heikki is up there to challenge for the win, but really I see him playing rear gunner regardless.

I know, i was just wondering whythey never put the camera on him so i could see howhe was driving.

I only saw him once when he went across the finish line to qualify 4th. However, he was later bumped down.

Also, Hamilton will probably win ( icon13.gif ), but i want Massa to.

What a bad qualifying from Heidfeld and Rosberg. Glock best German, maybe he can hold his position, we'll see.

Yeah, Glock did a great job of getting right up top in Q1 and 2.

He drove very well, hope to see him up in top 5 in the race, which starts soon.....

Well, 1 and a half hours, but still.

I hate it how I'm watching Channel Ten (F1 broadcaster in Australia) and is says "Up next: Budapest GP on TenHD!" and then goes on to inform me that regular Channel Ten will have an episode of Dexter instead.

It's like they're punishing me for not having an HD capable television by having to wait an extra hour for the F1s, not only that, but having Dexter fill that hour.

So I came onto the internet instead.

Is it bad that I cheered at Massa's demise? Oh well tounge.gif.

Hamilton's still leading the way, great drive by Felipe though I must say. Lewis and him were both unlucky, just Massa moreso!

Kimi was pretty lucky to end up 3rd even if his pace did increase towards the end of the race. He really needs to step up a gear, even if he is now 2nd in the championship.

Excellent race by Glock though, pretty uneventful but he certainly showed he had pace there smile.gif.

I would so hate to be Massa right now. He got his balls of steel out from the get-go, matched McLaren's pace until it all came tumbling down. You'd be so cut up.

I suppose it isn't as bad as when Button's car self-destructed on the final corner in whatever GP that was.

Hats off to Heikki. You only get so many GP wins falling into your lap like that. In Australia, we call that a "Bradbury".

I only started watching the race with about 20 laps to go but it was pretty decent in the short time i did watch it. Two popped tyres in one race?, pretty good by Hamilton to salvage some points after his mishap.

When Massa's car started steaming like a train and then rolled to a stop, then they showed the footage of the Ferrari mechanics at the pit area, i must admit i did give a little smile.

It turned out to be an alright race for Hamilton in the end icon14.gif.

Oh man i feel sorry for Felipe. What a race he drove too. Beating both McLarens off from the start and the pits were brilliant only to come short by 3 laps due to over-heating leading to engine failure. sad.gif

He would've been top of the table too.

Speaking off pit stops; i laughed quite a bit at the amount of time fires ignited onto cars.

There is usually only an average of 2 a season but 6 in one race? lol.gif , 2 of those on Seb Bordais' car.

I thought Kimi drove a good race, towards the end at least. He should've easily over-taken Fernando during the eary stages, he was holding him up. After he go through, he posted a fastest lap time. After Felipe's engine went and he had to lay off a bit, i was sure that whoever was behind him was going to over-take him, especially on the last lap, it was rather close.

Congrats to Heikki who was gifted 3rd place, then 2nd place, then 1st.

Also congrats to Timo who drove excellently, i thought.

Thing is though, that's the worst time to prove you can go fast...slow all weekend, then really fast in the dying laps? Oh dear. Not putting across a good image.

Hopefully...it is a street circuit so it'll probably be just as processional. It's similar to Montreal apparently, albeit a bit thinner in places. At least that should bring out the safety car eh?

And yeah, there's quite big breaks at the moment because of the summer break/testing ban.

F1 geezers need time off too ya know.

I believe the Valencia track should be interesting. Although street circuits typically do not promote overtaking, they do force errors out of the drivers. No stupid 300m run-off areas that you get with the tracks nowadays. Bahrain anyone?

I know, especially for the defending World Champ.

Which are the teams that will be recieving those snazzy new gearboxes?

Apparently most teams already have them. They make it so there is no lost speed through gear changes and only upward momentum. Boy, i wish i had that in my car inlove.gif

@Dave: I particularly enjoy street circuits, it requires a whole load of skill to be able to go fast and keep precision driving for the whole race. The only time they can ever 'relax' is in Pit stopssssss, and they last, what? 6 seconds?

That is probably why Monaco is my favourite GP. icon14.gif

It's Force India that plan to use their seamless-shift gearbox on their car next time round, most of the other teams already have them.

Means for about 10 seconds over a race distance so I've heard...doesn't sound much but could mean the difference between points or no points.

Yey its suppose to save 100ths of a second per lap or something like that, so may have some effect in qualifying were they maymake a few places, but in the race i dont think it will make a whole lot of difference. As you stated everyone else already has them so there not really gaining anything just equaling the other teams

Fernando Alonso is reportedly poised to join Honda for the 2009 season.

According to The Guardian newspaper, the former World Champion is ready to leave Renault and has agreed a $15m deal with the Brackley outfit to partner Jenson Button.

Alonso re-joined Renault for 2008 after his one-year stint at McLaren ended in acrimony and accusation and his stay with Honda is set to be similarly brief. It is claimed that 'the Spaniard looks likely to join Ferrari in 2010 although the precise date of his arrival is difficult to establish as Kimi Raikkonen, the present World Champion, is contracted to the Italian team until the end of next year and Felipe Massa to the end of 2010. Driving the Honda for one year - and maybe two - might offer Alonso the best stop-gap deal available.'

With Raikkonen and Felipe Massa set to be retained by Ferrari and a return to McLaren inconceivable, BMW were considered to be the most likely escape route for Alonso from Renault. However, aware of the rumours that Alonso has already agreed to join Ferrari in the future, they were unwilling to sign him on anything but a binding, long-term contract.

Honda have made no secret of their interest in recruiting Alonso, even for a single season, with chief executive Nick Fry recently declaring: "Fernando is a wonderful driver who would be a fantastic asset to any of the top teams, including this one. The job Ross Brawn and I have is to build a world championship-winning team."

The Guardian reports that 'one of the key reasons the twice World Champion is considering a move from Renault was the arrival of Brawn as the Honda team's principal this season,' while, for their part, 'The feeling at Honda is that a driver of Alonso's calibre could be worth as much as 0.6sec a lap and the Spaniard's test and development talents are just what Honda need in 2009 when a raft of new aerodynamic rules, slick tyres and KERS energy regeneration systems, are being introduced.'

SOunds interesting...

Nothing is going to happen for him there. BMW or Ferrari is the only place anything is going to happen for him after returning to McLaren not going to happen.

Dont like him anyway.

Hmmm...makes me wonder if Kimi would be tempted to leave F1 after 2009. He's said in the past if he gets bored he will do.

Thing is, Ferrari have a very strong team...yes Fernando is still young and has many years under him still, but Massa's left over from the Schumacher era and Kimi's still a very talented driver...and to be fair, how will Fernando and Michael (as an employee still) react together?

Lewis is set to stay with Mclaren for the very long term future. Kimi won't go back. Fernando (obviously) won't go back. Heikki's going to be strong in the future, along with Massa and Kimi.

There's too many good drivers for the top 3 to pick. Someone's going to get ousted.

And I'd love to see how Fernando and Button are together. Button's renowned for being one of the smoothest and technically best on the track...they reckon Alonso's that much faster? Sure he's a bit more aggressive which is fine for 2008 considering the issues a lot of the smoother drivers (Button, Heidfeld etc) are having warming their tyres up, but on 2009 with slicks? Hmmm.

Where's Rubens going anyway? I thought he was almost guaranteed a drive next year?
