I can't really defend Ocon for his silly attempt at overtaking while being one lap behind but Max really needs to calm down. This isn't NASCAR. He will get to win countless races in the future, and surely one WDC at least. Ocon, otherwise he might have just killed his future right there, even more considering he doesn't have a seat for the next year. He wouldn't be the first driver to lose everything for messing with a Red Bull.

 

Race was pretty good otherwise but even I have to admit that I wish Max had won instead. Leclerc is huge, he showed great pace from the qualyfing session when he passed to Q3 when his team did not expect it.

Imagine if Verstappen would've come from a bigger country, Britain or Germany. The press would've been calling for the immediate firing of Ocon right now. I'm glad Ocon has had Perez as a teammate, because he genuinely deserved to get taken out by a teammate all those times retrospecively..

Please stop. I get that the Dutch are glad to have a driver to root for, but this is plainly ridiculous. The only person really defending Ocon's move is Ocon himself. That being said, Verstappen behaving the way he did was about as stupid as Ocon's move on him. 

 

And for anyone trying to bring up Piquet, Senna or Schumacher, what they did was pretty bad too. Although I do understand Schumacher's reaction at Spa '98 because of how badly that could have gone.

I get that it is 2018 and we do not get to publicly behave like humans anymore, but that is a normal response if someone runs you off the track to cost you a GP, and then gives you a sly smile if you ask him what is up.

Please, stop. Yeah, I get it, he was angry he got taken out. I would have been furious as well. But I wouldn't resort to physical pushing unless I was defending myself. All Max did was make himself look like the petulant child many people have been accusing him of being.

In other news, the Sauber name is gone for F1 now. It's now Alfa Romeo Racing. Kind of sad, really.

Name may be formally gone but it's still the Sauber team. Reminds me that I'm still bitter towards FIAT because of how they let Lancia die to revive Alfa Romeo with tricks like this.

Wonder if they can still go lower. With a rookie and a single-handed veteran things don't look very promising here. At least they got money from brand new sponsors (literally in the case of the main investor, a brand new tech company).

I was genuinely surprised by Verstappen's podium though. Bloody good for Honda, hope they can keep it up.

 

Bottas winning was awesome, I've always backed the guy since he joined Mercedes and I hope he can continue mounting a title challenge.

Posting it here too. Sadly the news were not fake. Niki Lauda has just passed away, really really sad news. the man is a true legend.

Absolute legend. Going through what he did, and then coming back to win again? Master.

My family always had huge respect for Lauda. Recovering from that almost deadly crash and still being able to fight for the championship in 1976 was something incredible. Not too many people who went through situations like his crash at Nürburgring live that long afterwards. He was an iron man. The movie Rush depicted very well his painful recovery, as well as his half-rivalry, half-friendship with Hunt. Not seeing him in the Mercedes box lately has been sad. We all wished him to recover and be back once again.

Vettel on pole at the Canadian GP almost one full year since the last one. Both championships are already off limits to Ferrari, but let's see if they can gift us a single glorious afternoon at least. Be able to cut both Mercedes' winning streak and Totto's dumb smile. I don't want to downplay Lewis and his enormous bits of talent but seeing him winning all the time is just plain boring.

 

Incredible to see Verstappen off in Q2 due to Magnussen's crash. He will still beat his teammate, no doubt. Renault were surprisingly competitive, beating both McLarens.
