Post count and the main forum page

I've got two suggestions:

1. Visible post count in every post. We got many different "groups" (Player Hater, Crackhead, Clockwork Ninja etc.), but they doesn't tell me much. I want to see who has made thousands of posts or just maybe 100 or 500. And I would like to see this without having to view the profiles.

2. I miss a possibility to collapse the sections of the main forum page.

I'm not interested in "GTA Modding", "Community" and the who is online section. I'd like to collapse them and make then invisible.

Thanks! icon14.gif

1) No. Join date elitism is enough of a problem, let alone post count elitism. People should be respected by the quality of their posts, not quantity.

2) Actually, not a silly idea. End of the day it takes no more than a quick flick of the scroll wheel to navigate the side-bar, but I suppose being about to expand and collapse certain areas of the forum may be handy.

I agree with Mark, especially this bit.

Anyone who actually cares about someone else's post count can check their profile. To be honest I don't even see why join dates aren't removed from posts as well. A retard that joined a few years ago and posted a bunch is still a retard. The same applies to an intelligent poster who just joined and hasn't posted much.

As for the second part (which I think has actually been suggested before), I doubt it's needed, but it would be nice. For example, I don't know a damn thing about modding so those sections are as useless to me as my input would be in them. Some sort of javascript thingo that stores a cookie remembering what you want shown and hidden (like how the sidebar works) would be neat.

Sorry, I'm unsure what post date elitism is. Perhaps you mean the date they signed up?

I do agree with your main point; what matters is the quality of the posts.

This is a very large forum, and I constantly see unknown people. The post count doesn't tell if they are quality posters or spammers, but it does actually tell something about who they are. It doesn't tell me how much respect they deserve, however it tells me how active they are. It makes it easier to know people.

And we already got some kind of titles, isn't that elitism? The difference is that a newbie like myself knows what "1300 posts" means, and all the different titles are just confusing (unless combined with the corresponding post count).

The titles are entirely customizable, dude. icon14.gif It's an option in your profile.

Thank you, I didn't know that.

I don't see why post count is elitism. Then what about all the groups, badges and medals many of you got? That's not neccessarily elitism, but if a post count is elitism, then your badges and mesals are elitism for sure.

To me, this is not about respect or anything that can be connected to elitism. It's just a piece of information that tells me a little who people are. I know 0 people in this forum. This little piece of info - a number - is probably more valuable to me than it is for some of you guys who know alot of people here.

On a side note, I have disabled signatures because of the liberal rules. I almost had to because they are cluttering up the forums. Large signatures is a waste of space and in many cases disturbing.

I think the join date should be completly removed. So we just have to read the post to find out how long we have been here.

Actually no, the rules are reasonable but not outrageous, and are enforced very well.

The Unvirginiser

One of the worst problems on these forums is people who have been here a while and having higher posts thinking that they are better than everybody

Second suggestion.. best idea I've heard all day!

I suggested this back in 2005. (link)

OK, may I ask you something? How are you going to find out anything other than how many times people post by showing post count? That's the only thing it shows, it doesn't show personality, doesn't show any sort of contact info, interests, or anything else for that matter and would honestly make the posts more cluttered than they already are at the moment.

Seems like you just like to complain from what I've read. You have said something negative about post counts not being in every post, medals, groups, the main page layout, and the signature rules. Hard to please maybe?

There's always V2 smile.gif. And I'm thinking more of a Show/Hide toggle than a total preferences section in a users options.

I agree the post count being visible only gives people more incentive to spam, in an attempt to make their post count larger.

I like the collapsible main menu I only use about two of the forums, so it would be useful for me.
