I have a problem: when I launch SA it shows this error: SA require directX9.0, but I have already installed it from SA DVD. What can I do?

Get d3dx9_29.dll or whatever file it needs and put it in GTASA folder.

This tool is really awesome. I like when friends visit me and then i show them San Andreas and their Jaws drop down LOL.

 

Today i found my final settings. Its playable for me at about 20-25 FPS @ 1280x1024.

 

But i got some heavy mods installed and lots of replaced vehicles (all bike, planes, helis, boats and about 50 cars)

I'm not sure why parallax for some users not work (other guy, with Radeon 1650, told me the same), i don't have videocards for testing, but it works on NVidia gf8xxx and ATI Radeon2xxx, i tested. I'll try to figure out what is wrong.

 

Guys, i recently i tried new optimization trick that computes neccesesary data not every frame, but once per half second, this increase performance a lot, but because of it cars that moving by path on the road (not when you shoot at them on drive yourself) every half second twitches by position at computation moment (f.e. at about 20 km/h every "X" frame it moves in about half meter, very noticed). Is that artifact may be ignored for performance reasons or not? I can make special parameter that disables it. Some stats, without mod 54 fps if looking on the ground with shadow, with activated shadows only with quality 2 and without filtering about 28-30 fps, with this optimization trick about 51 fps (Radeon 2400 pro), guess this is interesting for low end hardware owners.

I think that if you are able to update every X seconds, you can update eg. each 2 frames as well (thats pretty easy).

 

However if you want to implement this or both, you will have to make settings for turning on/off "seconds mode" (so you can choose between seconds and frame mode) and it would be cool then if we could choose our own float interval between which the screen updates (so not just 0.5 seconds, we can choose 0.2 as well). Same goes to frame, but I don't know if it will work well confused.gif What do you think about choosing between 2 or 1 frame update? Won't it seriously decrease quality?

 

Edit: Boris, which keys to use with PP Lightning? I was trying to use Page Up/Down & Numpad 5&6 or normal 5&6 but I can't see the difference. Could someone provide me with screenshot before-after?

you can change the PP lighting by pressing 5 and 6 at the same time (56) and page up or page down for increase or decrease the intensity.

 

Boris, I think that this would be cool, on my graphic card (7600) I don't have many FPS, so what's with people who have f.e 6600?

 

And the parallax thing: It seems that it works on GF 7 series, for me it works fine.

This is something like parallax mapping? It makes texture look like 3D, but without any nmaps or something.. ;d This effect would be great for the land textures (mud, street, grass), but is possible to make it only for some types of textures/models?

Well, i'll try with frame skiping, may be it will be smoother. Just tried to test on GF8600, of course it runs better even with 0.5 seconds computation, almost not visible difference in performance, seems it have other game bottleneck problem and new optimization is above that slow down. As Darecki noticed, hold 5 or 6 keys together with PageUP or PageDown, first about 10 seconds 6+PageUp just to see difference, then 5+PageUp.

 

To Drippin'187:

Try increase BloomGammaCurveDay(Night) and less length of MotionBlur vectors.

 

To Darecki:

Parallax made from colors on screen, but if models will have special height map and normals, then more real parallax could be done. It's not actually parallax, it's relief map with occlusion culling.

Performance on 6600 is not good for modern time, i can't make cool effects for hardware that not able to run them at all or because users want maximal quality at high resolution, better let them buy new hardware, not 4 years old or to change setting to lower.

 

weaker comps? Sorry, language problem, don't understand.

 

Bullet holes (decals) i can modify even with parallax like in Fear, but only if i have them as objects, this question is not to me, i'm around graphic part only.

Uh... 10MB ram is actually a completely sh*t computer. I didn't even know computers like that still existed. Such computer is no way "a powerful PC"

i also get the weird flickering effect with reflections. i use Booka's ini in which he has put the settings as you say.

Any more suggestions on how to stop it? blush.gif

btw i use a HD3870 X2
