Gears of War 2

Has anybody heard anything about the game invites for Gears 2, apparently if you have people on your friends list playing Gears 2 then the game will automatically send out invites, sort of like spamming.

 

Every time i switch my 360 off and then look at my profile via Xbox.com i always get a game invite message eve though i wasn't actually playing.

It's not that mate, it's that hitting Back to Invite All on their little "What's Up" thing really does invite all, even people who're offline or don't own the game.

I personally haven't had too much trouble with matchmaking, sometimes it takes a while but it rarely takes more than about two minutes for me to get in a match, but I know a lot of people have ranged from taking forever to not being able to find matches full stop, hopefully there'll be a patch to fix that soon.

 

 

Cliff Bleszinski said that anyone who knew that they'd need an upgrade for the game also knew how to pirate it, so alas, he 'confirmed' that there would be no GoW2 for PC.

This is why I hate him. The correct way to not alienate your biggest fanbase (he worked on the Unreal games, the best of which were all PC exclusives) would be to say "we know that piracy is rampant for regular retail games on the PC, but it'd mean a lot to us if you could purchase the game and even upgrade your system if you need to to play Gears 2"; but no, he decided he wanted to treat all tech savvy PC gamers, the people who were responsible for paying his wages before Gears, like criminals. His head must be wedged up his arse.

Anyone else think the cutscene when Dom finds Maria was really well done? The campaign is so much better than the first game, it actually has proper backstory, helped by the collectable pieces.

 

But it seemed like a film when Dom was saying: "I dont know what to do, I dont know what to do man." While stuttering and holding back his tears.

 

Same, when Marcus crouched down as you heard the shot fired in the background a chill went down my spine. Definately more engrossing than the first.

hey i'm down for some horde mode, too. i bought the guide to the game and they have lots of good ideas for a five man team on each of the maps. for instance, where the best place to defend against the horde is for all maps, and what each player's role should be. i.e. - 1. sniper 2. protect sniper 3. guard staircase, that sort of thing. i'm on now, and will be for a few hours. just send me a request. otherwise, how about we pick a day/time and do it?

I'm right near the end of Gears now, currently on about the 3rd or 4th chapter on the 5th act which i will finish tomorrow . I thought Skorge was pretty sh*te, especially after Cliffy B and everyone were like he's way more badass than Raam. I think it's 3 chainsaw duals with him and the dodging of a couple of collapsing pillars for the first encounter and then a little shootout on the back of his pet thingy. Raam had a big troika gun and Kyrl flying around him and he took about 10 sniper shots to the head to kill. Very disappointed with Skorge .

Picked it up after school today, it's fantastic. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed when I opted for this over CoD 5.

 

I'm presently just finishing the bit where Dom and Marcus are fighting the big Kraken monster on the Locust Gunboat. It'd taken me a few attempts, then I realised you have to throw a grenade.

 

Gonna take a break now, although I'll be on later to see how it is on XBL. My gamertag's the same as my forum name if anyone's up for some games.

That was harsh wasn't it. When the little coffin thing was opened i was like yeah we've found her and she come out looking normal and then Marcus said something and the proper vision come and she was all moldy looking. I actually felt sad .

 

How good was Cole's speech to the Locust queen over that tannoy thing, well funny .

 

Also i was playing split screen co-op yesterday and Marcus was player 1 on the top screen and Dom was player 2 on the bottom screen and next minute the player 1 half of the screen went all weird like all these colour's mashing together like a bad scart connection but the player 2 half of the screen was normal. How the hell did that occur where only one screen went bad, it only last about 30 seconds before correcting itself. Is that a Gears 2 disc problem or a 360 problem?.

Hey guys, can I pose a this-or-that question?

 

I had money to buy 2 games. I already purchased Fallout 3.

 

Now, I'm deciding between Fable 2 and Gears 2. I already had it in my head to get Fable 2 since I've been waiting for it for quite some time. But all the amazing reviews I've been reading for Gears 2 makes me want it now. The visuals and story-telling are whats really making me pine for it. I already know the action is gonna be sweet, so the whole package seems great. I'm still going to have 2-3 Christmas presents next month to use on more games, so what should I get now?

 

I already have Fallout 3 for some RPG goodness, so should I go for Gears 2 now and just get Fable 2 next month for X-Mas?

Harsh is putting it lightly. The special edition I got comes with a replica of the photo he carries. I was looking through the art book that also comes with it and the photo fell out. Made me feel sad all over again.

 

But yeah, the Cole bit was awesome. Cole is just pure awesomeness in general. I thought Marcus was going to tell him off straight away, but he left it awhile.

That's why I tried to avoid coming in here until I got it.

 

Playing it through on Hardcore first was definitely a good idea, as it unlocks the achievements for the lower levels as well. Some bits were an absolute bitch to get past by myself, but I managed.

I thought he was dead at first but at the end there's several comments by him about the sinking of Jacinto but then the Locust Queen speaks of Adam and is disappointed that Marcus had not turned out more like his father, which sounds like he's dead. But there's loads of speculation surrounding him so i ain't got a clue.

 

I think he might have something to do with the Locusts somehow, how did he get the mapping of all the Locust tunnels (which we got in Gears 1) from his secret basement and the fact the Locust Queen knows him.

 

 

Some bits were an absolute bitch to get past by myself, but I managed.

You could do a bit of cheating to get past certain points on insane. If you start a split screen co-op game and set your profile to Insane difficulty and then set the other screens player to Casual difficulty, you could just use the second controller to shoot the enemies as it would be easier.

 

I already know what part i'm going to get stuck on during Insane and that's when you ride the Reaver through the Hollows and when you fight Skorge when flying the Reaver.

I think I might go at it on Hardcore my first play through too. Really wanna challenge myself, get the most out of the game.

 

And how about that "Last Day" trailer that's been airing on TV? The one using the song, "How It Ends" by DeVotchka. It's pretty awesome. I thought it was an 80s song, definitely sounds like one, but it was actually released in '04. It's as memorable as the Mad World trailer in my opinion. I'll be downloading it in the near future if not later tonight.

I thought he was dead throughout the game. But the bit after the credits obviously proves that wrong. "What have you done!?" and all that. But to know they sunk Jacinto, he must have been within a certain distance.

Yeah i think the story is quality, i was reading a few posts on different forums and the story sounded quality and with added fact of picking up collectables with information on it gave the storyline the little bit extra.

 

I wanted to finish the game to find out all the storyline details but it was that good i didn't want it to end .

 

@pap, lol Niles was he dead or alive that computer seemed to respond in live moments with Marcus and Dom, that adds even more speculation to the games storyline, Epic will have to do about 3 more games to clear everything up . There's speculation that Sires were humans that got tested on and turned into those creatures.

 

That part of the game was great when your were in the labs, double chainsaw, chainsaws in the back, blood splattering everywhere, it was awesome.

Re-do training the rook where you take Carmine. I didn't get the achievement but then did the training at the start of the game on co op and then got it.

Yeah, that is A Carmine. His brother B Carmine is in this game. He did say he had 3 brothers so maybe there will be another in the next game.
