[WIP][SCR] Female CJ full replacement

EDIT 3: Apparently there was a crash bug that some people experienced. I don't know why, but apparently SA doesn't like the high res textures in the player model unless it has had a txd loaded from GTA_INT.IMG that has also has a large texture. It makes no sense, but it apparently works. This fix is essentially that you have the choice of either installing a file with a blank dummy texture you can download here or an interior mod that has high-res textures and would load immediately upon starting a new game (I know that this one works: Halo 3 Xbox for CJ's house... go to www.gta-worldmods.com and do a search for "xbox" to find it - they don't allow direct linking)

 

Let me know if that doesn't solve the problem for any of you, and remember to rebuild your gta_int.img after installing either my dummy txd or the xbox mod.

As the title said, I'm replacing CJ with a female character. All clothing, tattoo, and haircut options will be available (and altered properly for the character's new gender). I've been working on this mod since the fall of 2006...

 

I'm almost ready to release a beta that has all intended features except for the American.gxt and the new voiceset (looking for actress) - the only hold-up is I have to fix a bug with the cutscene versions of the haircuts (I believe its a rigging bug).

 

Note that the old clothing items and the item that replaced them may not always be color-coordinated, so while this mod will be compatible with your save games, Carla J.'s fashion sense may need to be adjusted wink.gif

What is this mod?

 

This mod began as my wanting on a whim to put Mona Sax from Rockstar's Max Payne 2 into San Andreas. It escalated from there and mutated into a project to completely replace CJ with Mona - complete with all clothing, hairstyle, and tattoo options. Ironically, Mona's Max Payne 2 outfits didn't make the cut due to varying reasons - the only way to recognize her is her face.

 

What will be missing in the first beta upon release?

 

I haven't replaced CJ's voice yet - still need a voice actress as I am too self conscious to do it myself. I also haven't made a new American.gxt file - so the old names for haircuts and clothes will appear rather than the correct names (IE: Chongers instead of Capris). I'm not entirely happy with my rigging of the DFFs, but I'll have them as best as I can with my personal skills. The alpha channels on some of the hairstyles need tweaking as well.

No, there is no x-rated material in this modification - if she strips, she is wearing underwear - just like CJ in the original game (although for her underwear is a bra and panties as opposed to boxer shorts)

The muscle and fat were done with textures rather than additional meshes (I've already done more than a hundred meshes for this, so I decided to forgo doing a Rosie O'Donnel version of every mesh, and the muscle version looks nicely toned and defined with just the texture) I may go back and do a fat mesh for each file at a later date, but for now I want to get what I have already finished and released before GTA4 comes out LOL

 

My hope is to release the beta some time in the next week. Right now the big hold-up is rigging the cutscene versions of the haircuts.

I plan on replacing all the non-mission non-cutscene dialogue - so just the random sayings plus things like chatting with girlfriends (I plan on eventually releasing an add-on that will change at least one girlfriend to a boyfriend) and the gambling dialoge ("Hit Me", "Gimme a card", etc) This is of course contingent on my finding an actress - I'd do it myself, but I'm too self conscious about my voice-acting.

 

MOD STATUS UPDATE:

It looks like I nipped the bug in the bud - I'm going to do some more testing to be sure... after that I just have to find some web space to upload to and I'll release Beta 1.

I'm having a problem with clothes.dat - particularly where I have it changing the head DFF according to what haircut CJ has and what hat she is wearing...

Anyone have any ideas as to what is up with that? (Yes, I know that my naming conventions are weird and make no sense - it is because I wanted to only use filenames that already existed in player.img in order to avoid problems with the SAMI installer)

Yes, all of the DFF files are rigged - I'm using the original CJ skeleton and animation. It all works fine if I use the original clothes.dat code - but when I change the code to make use of the extra models I made (so that hairstyles won't mysteriously change when you put on a hat), it works fine until the game tries to load a cutscene - then it crashes.

Yep, as I said - though all that remains of the original Mona is her face... I wound up not using her Max Payne 2 outfits.

 

 

UPDATE:

I found the cause of the bug, its the length of the DAT file of all things for it to be. I'm coming up with a better (IE: Shorter) version of the code now.

You can get a program where you have options to make your voice sound like a girl, but if you want i can give it a shot, just give me one line to say and you can see what you think, but i do think my MIC quality sucks.

MOD UPDATE: I fixed the clothes.dat problem finally - unfortunately I had to trim it down a lot more than I liked - so what this means is that there are two generic haircuts that are used whenever a hat is being used - except for the cowboy hat which still has all the varient haircuts (apparently there is a code line limit for clothes.dat, and I hit it after coding for one hat's custom DFFs for the different haircuts... so I just picked my favorite hat type. It is possible to do a different clothes.dat version for each hat so that the end-user can just pick the one for his favorite hat, but that's something for the second beta.)

 

So the only thing keeping me from releasing BETA 1 at this point is that I need to find somewhere to upload it - just shy of 100 megs. Any suggestions?

Like I said, the only reason I'm not doing it is because my acting is horrendously bad.

Most of the haircut meshes were provided by Maebe (as stated in credits)- who had originally released them as a Neverwinter Nights 2 haircut pack, and I converted them for my purposes. It is possible that Maebe also had released them for Oblivion, though I'd have to ask to be sure.

Upload isn't a problem at the moment... I found a couple of bugs I want to quash before I release, but real life got in the way in the form of midterms. The issue is that I've discovered that their are only two sorts of bugs in this type of thing: rigging bugs and crash bugs.
