How Big Is GTA IV

Recommended Posts

If you look at this picture on the GTA IV website, http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/ You can see to the right street lights in the far distance, That seems a long way away so do you think that area will be accessable.

If you've played Driver Parrarel Lines then you'll know how big it is possible to make a game map so what do you think.

If that part of the map is not playable then I think thats a good idea, Its not just a couple of citys in the middle of the water its actualy a part of a country.

The map certainly looks massive, but how big would you roughly say it is? So you guys are guessing it is like San Andreas but with Las Venturas removed?

Alderney and Alogoquin look like the largest obviously with it taking 5 real minutes or so to get round a lot of Alogoquin.

Bohan looks small I am thinking it could be the same size of Portland in Grand Theft Auto III and no larger than that but this is just an assumption.

The light area represents 75% to put it in perspective.

So if this is all urban area, I would say that GTAIV's Liberty City will be much more full and dense.

Woah, that is still bigger than I thought 75% was gonna be, now I am really getting hyped up for this game... biggrin.gif

I think it will be a bit smaller than that, but its going to be much more dense and the scope seems huge. In my opinion San Andreas didnt have a particularly good layout. Liberty City seems to have a better layout and the map looks awesome.

Yeah, most of the San Andreas map is either useless countryside or desert, Liberty city has some countryside (Very small if it does) but almost all of it is pure detailed city unlike San Andreas, wonder if there is loads of changes from gta 3

The circled area is all of the land area I consider to be "urban" area (used loosely) in San Andreas. It takes up around 60% of the land area. If the 75% people speak of is pertaining to land area only (no water), then actually it will be bigger than the "urban" area of S.A.

Not only this....most of the urban area in Liberty City will be more more dense (more urban) with much more INTERIOR SPACE. I assume the amount of water area will about somewhere about the same.

It's be 3/4 the size of SA, but it'll feel huge. Every single space will be detailed. I think there wont be large useless deserted areas, like in SA.

Why do people say this like thats not big at all. SA was huge. Only reason it seemed small was because it had so much dead space. Think about taking 3/4 of SA, then covering it in nothing but city, with no dead spaces....thats a big ass city.

The city map on the website and the music reminds a lot of Crackdown.

What was so bad about the "dead space" of SA? I liked the countryside, added a lot to the game, made you feel you were really traveling to different places.

Agreed, sorta, although the song has a much darker feel to it.

Also, all them lights you see to the right is Dukes which will be [obviously] accessible. smile.gif

I just hope Alderney is interesting...

Think of the things that IV can have, which are new to GTA, and even, to gaming:

* train marshalling yards...

* huge container depots...

* Large industrial estates...

* A big trash landfill...

* A REALLY large airport...

* Big graveyards...

Here is the Official Site Map deperspectivized to a top-down view and scaled to 75% the area of San Andreas.

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/3562/lcvsark5.gif

How about overimposing it on the whole map and then see how much area it takes up per cent.

Good Idea, But renember also that the scale may also be different.
