BigGamer Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 I've noticed that many of you are using the letter "B' in that Arabic script thing in place of a "P", because, well, the Arabs don't have one. However, the Perso-Arabic script and other related styles used in various non-Arabic languages do, in fact, have said phoneme, and thus said letter. Here is an article describing Perso-Arabic script and here is the very detailed, lengthy, thorough article on the letter in question. Anyways, from what I was explained, when translating direct sound, words lose their meaning in the language its written in.I had an ex-Pakistani tank captain in my platoon while in the army. He showed me how to write my name in his language, but told me that if read by someone native to that language, it would be a word sounding like "Kevin" but making no sense to that person in their language. So basically, you have the Arabic version of something that sounds like "Platty isn't English" but sounds and looks like gibberish to speakers/readers of the language's native origins. Kinda silly/stupid...but this is a forum, after all. EDIT: literal translation = belatti esent anglsh = BEA PIE theory: Rejected lolzers. I can't remember where I saw this, but I remember seeing a Zaibatsu member post in a GTA IV topic that if you play the first trailer backwards, it sounds like Niko is saying "Platty isn't English." I've listened, and I have no clue how they thought he said anything that even resembled a coherent phrase, but meh. Let 'em have their fun.
