Rumor mill pumps out multiplayer info

While this isn't confirmed, a site called rumoroid claims to have been leaked info on the multiplayer part. Whether this is true or not, we'll have to wait to see.

 

 

The traditionally guarded Rockstar has been mum on GTA IV's multiplayer modes, with many people speculating the multiplayer would be anything from an MMO-style afair to a full-on cooperative story mode. According to our source, that's not exactly the case.

 

GTA IV will contain a deep multiplayer mode, including deathmatch, team play ("Cops 'n Crooks"), and some sort of ranked cooperative missions. Our source specifically talks about modes called "Deal Breaker," "Bomb da Base," and something called "Hangman's Noose," but gives no further details. The game will also feature ranked multiplayer races, likely across the game's open roads of Liberty City.

 

Rockstar has also been known to include side quests and various mini-games in their titles, and not-surprisingly, GTA IV will be no different. We're told the game will feature recreational side-activities like throwing darts, bowling, and even pool. This of course is in addition to expected side-missions like package deliveries, "Most Wanted" side "quests" where you capture the crooks, and even offline street races. And if you're looking for videogame distraction from your videogame (addicted much?), you might want to try to beat the high score in a meta-game called QUB3D.

 

We've contacted Rockstar for confirmation of these details, but have yet to hear back from them. Although we're confident in the credibility of our source, we're going to treat these details as "rumor" until we hear something more.

Sounds pretty reasonable, and it kind of sounds like Saints Row's multiplayer. I really really hope that Rockstar puts offline split-screen multiplayer in the game though.

All they had to do was add 4 or at least 2 player co-op across the whole map. Then any missions or races or anything could be created loosely by the host. There is way more room to do what you want within the full world than some crappy multiplayer mode.

 

The game can go from awesome to insanity with just the addition of full on co-op, even if you can only play side missions and R3 missions in co-op, but its a start. Games with co-op hugely increase the games replay value and brings so much more to what the game already is. If I cant mooch about with a friend in the existing singleplayer map free roaming then they have made a big mistake.

qft man, saints row 2 is doing it, so why cant gta 4 do it better? anyway im looking forward to team modes, maybe now drivebys will be more exciting in gta multiplayer. if its like the psp multiplayer but way enhanced with an additional co-op option for the main mode im sure it will be good, in fact i hope it is that way. also i hope that it is 4 player split screen and that the yardies make a return.

Noose is Rockstar's SWAT in GTA IV, so Hangman's Noose might have something to do with one team all dressed and equiped as a SWAT tactical team trying to win against a team of bad guys. The Noose would have to play all tactical like throwing flashbangs, smoke grenades, piling up on doors etc... Kind of like Rainbow Six. It would be awesome for GTA.

 

But what I want the most is offline split-screen multiplayer with free-roam, some deathmatch modes, and races. I hate how some games don't have offline split-screen multiplayer anymore, and I hope Rockstar doesn't commit the same mistake.

Co-op means Co-operative, which means that you're "operating" with the help of another player. So yeah, co-op is 2 human players playing the same game and helping each other. Co-op can be in either a mission where 2 players are trying to accomplish the same task, or just free-roam.
