engjac
hm.. i didn't like the news about the car damage, please make that realistic! Well, if it looks good, then i guess it'll be alright At least the image i have seen of a damaged car looked good, i just hope they don't feel like unbreakable steel or something
MorticianENG
Ahh balls, I hear "frame rate issues" and I'm sh*tting it. I would have no problem at all with R* if they were to tone down the detail in certain areas for a smooth framerate.
dlx
BETA = BETA and optimisation is also optimisation.. and word to blackmamba47 also.... I don't get what you people are whining about anyway... san andreas was buggy as hell too, we all liked it. Edited February 8, 2008 by dlx
EntropicLqd
-far away objects are very unsharp,-textures pop in with delay -shadows look blocky and shimmery That's pretty interesting information. Far away objects looking a bit blurred could be because they are playing with some sort of post-processing effect, or perhaps depth-of-field (that's all the rage at the moment). UT3 suffers from this massively. The default bloom and DoF settings make the game look like crap. Turn them off and it's a real eye opener. R* have always have problems with textures popping in and out and their shadows. Perhaps it wasn't so noticeable on a console, but on the PC because the draw distance was so much greater (or in the case of VC becuase you were on a bike) you can see it easily. It's much less pronounced in SA than VC, but get in a plane and you can see all the short-cuts they've taken with LoD and texture detail. Still, both M$ and Sony have fairly tight quality control gates (although they seem to be slipping recently) so I imagine most of the big glitches will get fixed before the game is released. mc420
this is f*cking awful news. now it sounding like its going to look like sh*t. it can't look worse than previous gta's. If it had the same graphics as gta3 you would still buy it and enjoy it. Gta's graphics where never the selling point of the game.
D- Ice
That all sounds great except this: They have never witnessed such a believable and living metropoils in any other game... but with that came a harsh framerate drop Wha?! Thanks though. The part about grenades is sweet. here's hoping that's an early build. Here's hoping thats just for all you PS3 fanboys. All in all, I love all the news except the part about saving. I though Niko's not gonna go rags to super-riches, and even the very rich don't have mansions in NYC. Also, I hate autosave, but hope it can be disabled. Anyway, I'm not too bothered about the framerate, I can't really afford the best TV right now, so anything over 60 or so Hz is ok. dlx
that's precisely the problem... 60hz is 60 frames per second gta iv is actually going to run 30 frames per second, just like most other games and movies and such. But the preview said that in the busiest part of town the framerate drops. That means it goes below 30 fps, hell, even below 20fps because in most cases you would hardly even notice that. Simply put: the game stutters when it gets to busy on screen... like mass effect. And @entropic: MS put that one out, didn't they?
BigBoyTraks
If its actually even true. If they fix or not i can give to ass cracks im goin to buy it regardless just like the rest of you who are making something out of nothing. If anyone knows Game PRo they know how they are. Not one other company has mentioned any kind of Frame rate Drop. It makes me wonder if it was the case why hasn't anyone else mentioned it!!! dlx
yeah same here.. it's not gonna be perfect.. I was well prepared for that.. nothing in life is. It's still going to be a lot more stable and polished than the last gen gta's.

k_jap
Fully Translated Version of the Article Hope the framerate improves Thanks for the link, man, but German syntax and the google translator don't mix too well. What I want to know is what this talk of saving means. To me it seems as though it won't be possible to save your game at any fixed savepoint/safehouse/save icon at all: Only autosave. And that seems odd to me. Also, there is no mention of any damn mansion in this text, so where that came from I don't know. I see people getting worked up over it too: How can it be rags to slightly better rags if the f*cker lives in a mansion??!! He obviosuly doesn't. But the saving business interests me, so if anyone whose German is better than mine could please translate this sentence [Frei speichern wird man in GTA IV wieder nicht können, verschiedene Rücksetzpunkte pro Mission gibt es auch nicht] into standard English I would much appreciate it. Framerates don't bother me half as much as gameplay.

ScottishConman
I wouldent worry, they will fix these problems. And I knew the graphics wernt gonna be the best because its a free roam game, you gonna have to wait a few more years for crysis looking free roam games lads. Desay
I'd rather have a worse frame rate if it means there can be more stuff in the game. No taking sh*t out to make the game run faster!
Ronnyboy
Remember when GTA III came out, that was glitchy, but it was the start of a new era of gaming and a new system R* was using. robla
Frei speichern wird man in GTA IV wieder nicht können, verschiedene Rücksetzpunkte pro Mission gibt es auch nicht Translated: "You won't be able to save freely. There aren't any savepoints/progression marks inside missions." First part: There just saying that u won't be able to save besides autosaves and at ur savehouse. No hitting "start" and "save game". Second part: As with some longer missions of old (multiple parts) failing a later part of a mission fails the whole mission and puts u back to the beginning of the whole mission. Mr. Self Destruct
Looks to be a late one from the recent demos. Which R* are still improving. I wouldn't worry. ^^You devil!? Its obviously the same demo as was shown to the other major gaming sites. Expect some improvement but it won't be perfect. Those who now think the game will be sh*t, don't buy the game. This game will be absolutely immersing, full stop. Everything else (frame rate/unclear object in the distance) will be overpowered by its stunning gameplay. So put down the razor and get out of the bathtub, Its going to be okay.

Ricksta
The framerate is what i have feared most since i first saw the the screenshots. I guess we will just have to wait for the PC version for some good framerates. Low framerates ruin the whole game, on my old computer I got crysis and I had 18frames per second and it wasn't fun at all. I hope this won't be the story for IV. EDIT: framerate = Say you have 20 frames per second (thats crap by the way) you will see 20 images of the game moving in one second. So say you have 1 frame per second (1fps) you will see one image of the game moving every second, which is well.. you would yourself lol.. 24fps is the lowest I would be happy with, but if these guys are noticing it Im sure it can get below 20 f*cking sh*tTTTTTTT Burnout paradise plays at 60fps stably, I bet this will be jumpy, and slow.
