Ithanium
http://www.gamepro.de/_misc/article/print.cfm?pk=1304420 • Characters in the game speak absolutely in sync • There will be no localised versions other than with translated subtitles • There is a "Most Wanted" menu point in the police car computer - possibly modified vigilante? • It is not possible to save except at the mansion and auto-saves • Even after severe crashes, cars will not be wrecked completely • They have never witnessed such a believable and living metropoils in any other game... but with that came a harsh framerate drop • They have never experienced granade explosions as in GTA IV - they described the blast wave as 'almost feelable'
TheRoper
That all sounds great except this: They have never witnessed such a believable and living metropoils in any other game... but with that came a harsh framerate drop Wha?! Thanks though. The part about grenades is sweet. $$$ MAKE MONEY WITH NEOBUX $$H

Ithanium
here's hoping that's an early build. I don't think so. They state that eight months have passed since they last saw the game at a presentation. They got the same (guided) presentation as the recent batch of online previews. Some of those previews already noted that the framerate hopefully would be further improved.
dlx
Die Fortschritte die seit der letzten Präsentation gemacht wurden, stimmen uns diesbezüglich auch optimistisch. there are more problems: -On star junction, framrate drops dramatically... for this first time (so that's bad and good right?) -far away objects are very unsharp, -the image is jittery, -textures pop in with delay -shadows look blocky and shimmery -they had a crash where the snitch in the mission didn't show up after the cutscene, so rockstar had to redo the mission. This is where they critisize the save system. It saves automatically, but that still means that if you fail a mission you will have to redo it completely it seems. they promised to further optimize it before release. And the progress since the last presentation made the journalists optimistic as well.. the rest of the article is full of praise. Cars handle very good, damage looks great but cars are still sturdy enough to cause a whole lot of crashes before giving up the ghost. So... I guess it's good to see there are at least some honest game journalists out there... it's obviously going to be a little better when it's released, but don't expect it to be perfect or the greatest looking game on your console. memind
i was afraid of this. san andreas had its fair share of technical hitches but this sounds horrid. i hope to god rockstar fixes this before april. if not, i wouldn't mind waiting a couple more months. Vanilla Shake
So... I guess it's good to see there are at least some honest game journalists out there... it's obviously going to be a little better when it's released, but don't expect it to be perfect or the greatest looking game on your console. Coming from GamePro...I'm not surprised. I remember when they reviewed San Andreas, they focused on mainly all of the glitches and negative aspects of the game. At the time those drawbacks never bothered me, but if I were to pop the disk in now I wouldn't be able to enjoy the game as much. Same goes for Vice City Stories. And I remember them praising Saints Row before it came out, about how they thought it would be the GTA killer. Anyway, very disappointing to hear. Sure they have some more time to fix that stuff, but I've got a feeling that this game is going to be plagued with annoying glitches and bugs. My excitement has dropped significantly. k_jap
I wonder what console they saw it on.......*hides in basement before console war starts again* The 360, I believe. It says so in the opening paragraph. Another thing: I can't see any mention of a "mansion" in that article...What it says is there will be no "free saves" whatever that means. No safehouse savepoints? Only autosave? Could a German speaker please clear this up?
GTASIX
This framerate thing is getting me worried. How long actually do they have to work on it? Considering it has to be in the stores by at least the 27th of April. And they have to produce the disks and everything. So they got like 2 months max. dirtycopVCPD
I'm no graphics whore, so it's no skin off my nose. As long as it plays good, or doesn't look completely horrible, I really don't care.

cps82
They can always add a patch/update after release should it be necessary... Have a look in the Games Master UK thread, might cheer you up a bit.

JohnnyDrama
I hope this game doesn't turn out to look like San Andreas in action. I remember popping San Andreas into the old Ps2 not too long ago, and I thought to myself, My God, how did I ever play this? There were times when I couldn't even see things before I was literally running them over. I surely hope IV isn't that bad.
Darrel
Wow, those bastards at Gamepro, Wish i never read it now. I mean whats their problem? All other websites had nothing but praise for the game. I think these guys are exageratting. I'm going to pretend i never read this.
dlx
and once again people start reading WAY TOO MUCH into it.. drama queens it's not a step backwards, in fact they go out of their way to say it has progressed very well since the last previews. The problems they mention are only cosmetic... shadows in crysis (on my awesome quad core rig) are also jittery, just like Assasin's Creeds and CoD4... low resolution shadows, most games have these.. The only time the framerate went down was on star junction aka times square... which can probably be fixed by removing some lights, or having a bit less traffic on screen there. They only say it because the game is SO beautiful, apparently it comes at a price. In the end, overall it's a very positive article, they're just honest. They entire point is: it's goddamn beautiful and immersive, it just has some minor cosmetic imperfections that take 2 is still working on. It's still a beta build and it's probably the same build as all the others have seen, so it was compiled somewhere before christmas.. don't worry

GTA_Godfather
I appreciate the honest review. It's better that they not sugarcoat it. It looks like the game might be 'too powerful' for the consoles. I'm not surprised. It's running on essentially out-dated hardware. The 360 has been out for over 2 years now. When San Andreas came out for the PC it ran very well with very good frame rates (2003 PC hardware). Late pop-in? What's that? Long loading times? 5 seconds on the initial loading screen and no other loading was required after that. This just makes me want to wait till the PC version of IV comes out. I want to see it in all it's glory and don't want to have to settle for anything less. Consoles are for kids.

Fabio206
I've found the article on the site: http://www.gamepro.de/preview/spiele/ps3/a...420/gta_iv.html Third page: Laut Take 2 soll GTA IV im zweiten Quartal 2008 gleichzeitig für Xbox 360 und PlayStation 3 erscheinen. It reffers to 2nd Quarter 2008? The article's day should be 24 Jen '08, according to me and Daniel (gta-series) maybe this is the old build version and not the newest Sry 4 my bad English
BlackMamba47
Amazes me how people become lemmings when it comes to making insightful decision on whether you'll like a game or not. Maybe y'all should read up on some Thoreau or Emerson and learn what self-reliance and individualism is before you let journalists sway your mind to the extent that you're worried about the game.
