Digïtál £vîl
So. It seems that the Writer's Strike is finally over. http://www.cnbc.com/id/23057002 So what do you guys think? You think that this will make a difference? Or will television shows still remain sh*tty, even with some "talented" writers trying their hardest to be creative. I mean, television wasn't anything amazing when the writer's were around. And then it just became complete crap once they stopped. You think that the break in work will help them to be more creative? Or do you think that it will take a while to dusk off the cobwebs?
Vanilla Shake
Now they can finally get Scrubs back on the air. But overall, I'm thinking the end of the strike won't make much difference in making most television shows any less sh*ttier. just another thug
I kind of wanted the strike to continue because by 2009 all the movies coming out would be indie and art films. But, now we can have our cookie cutter films back!
darthYENIK
Well, we're going to either have to wait for good shows to be written. Wait for good writers to be forced to write something with a short deadline, and get inferior shows. Or hopefully, a hybrid of the two, and we'll get hastily written shows, that are actually good. Svip
Sorry, guys, but the strike isn't over. The guild members still have to vote on whether they accept the negotiations or not. So technically, it's still on.
papanesta
As far as I've found out, the writers have still been writing during the writers strike. Sounds weird, I know, but why not? It's not like they have anything else to do. So, when the TV programs and such do start getting made again, hopefully we end up with bullet proof plot lines. Digïtál £vîl
Sorry, guys, but the strike isn't over. The guild members still have to vote on whether they accept the negotiations or not. So technically, it's still on. The guild members follow what their guild representatives (leaders) say. There will be a vote, but unless the offer is so grossly uneven, I doubt that the members will reject it. They have their guild representatives doing the negotiations for a reason. Ronmar The Only
I definitely want it to be over so new episodes of Entourage can start up. I mostly just buy seasons so this has not affected me, but it did stall Entourage and that just means Season 4 has yet to come on DVD and that Season 5 has been done yet. Shylock
The only show I was really pissed about losing due to the strike was "24". That and Sutherland being in jail for 48 days, selfish bastard.
Crokey
They need to get there sh*t together and bring back Scrubs. Damn right they do. There is a very nasty rumour going around (I hope it's false) that NBC might sh*t all over, what has probably been their most consitent program over the past 7 years, and send the remaining episodes of this Final season straight to DVD. I would not be happy with this, I mean ffs it's the last season give it's send off it deserves. But Pap is right many of the Writers, that is Producer/Writers have been working on scripts for existing shows and refining plot lines and show directions since the strike started, other Writers like Staff Writers have also been working on stand-alone scripts (mainly for 'cop' shows and shows which don't have a specific story-arc like comedies). Producers/Writers have also been writing scripts for possible full run debut 2009/2010 series, if there is such a thing as a full-run debut they're usually decided on every week, it's kinda too late for 2008/2009 since this season 2007/2008 will have to be 'flushed' and production meetings, casting etc won't have time to start-up in time for the start of next season, but you could expect a few new short season (13 episodes approx) debuts which will air in early 2009. So some series are going back to film a few more to finish off this season in May with a flourish and some have just called it a wrap for this season. But as for next year expect existing series, like your Law and Orders, CSI's, NCIS, Heroes, Lost etc (Dramas mainly) to have very tight story-arcs and extremely well written scripts. But don't expect a flurry of new series to start in August and probably we'll get stuck with a few more of these 'Reality' show things which are effectivly taking up space until the next season or second half of this season to come. But as for Film productions, there is no seasonal structure as such which will hamper production of new films, at the moment many studios have a backlog films waiting in the can to be editied and also a stock of films which have everything in place to start shooting as soon as possible. A lot of studios have also taken to filming new productions in Canada and Mexico over the past few months, since the WGA doesn't cover those areas and they have been drafting in writers from Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australaisa. darthYENIK
f*ck NBC if they send the last half of the season to DVD without airing it. I doubt it would happen though. Since NBC could get ass loads more money for airing said episodes.
