ok. i saw the similar thread to this but i didn't want to hijack the topic.

i'm 15 and need help convincing my mother that letting me play GTA isn't as bad as it sounds. i mean. i usderstand why it's an 18, and am mature enough to handle all the violence and adut content. its just a game. i'm not going to take it seiriously.

iv completed all the other GTA's on borrowed freinds copies. she understands all this, yet still refuses to allow me playing.

i think it's going to get in the way of me owning IV and am naturally worried. please don't tell me to just borrow a freinds because i don't want to wait. imagine if it was you.

lock if you must but i would really appreciate it if some of you could point me in the right direction as to how to change her mind. WARNING: she is mighty stubborn! colgate.gif

Why don't you explain to her that buying GTA4 contributes to the economy? Or the fact that if it was really bad for you, then millions of people would be killing each other now. And why don't you tell her that violent video games relieve stress and can help an angry person at times. Of course i'm pertaining to violent video games, but use GTA4 as an example with it

EDIT: Ok this may not work, but its worth a try.

if your mom doesn't approve and thinks your too young then there is nothing you can do. I wasn't aloud watching the simpsons when i was younger but i was aloud playing GTA llol i always found that funny.

EDIT: LOL dont say what carbine told you to say, you will just make it worse. You can try telling her that it will not effect school and u will not spend hours and hours playing it. If you have xboxlive say that ur friends have it and u want to play against them. If she still has a problem, tell her she looks lovely today lol and if that doesn't work then ur out then try asking your dad lol biggrin.gif that worked for some thingss with me. If she has a problem with it, she has her reasons. Maybe in a year or less she will let you buy and play it.

Show her Jack Thomson... That'll be enough to convince her by what an idiot he is.

Also seriously try showing her articles etc. that promote games e.g. that they improve your hand eye coordination etc.

But whatever you do dont show her these forums... there are people on here that would convince almost anyone GTA is bad for them...

whats that?

It's a funny GTA parody on the Dave Chapelle show on Comedy Central. I would love to post the Youtube or Google video, but it was removed because of Copywriting laws sad.gif

So your gonna probably have to watch it on TV or the official sight. Maybe i could get the link.

Buy a gun and shoot your mother, problem solved. biggrin.gif No j/k don't do that, if you lack common sense. She is your mother, and as long as you live under her roof you have do obey by her rules, there isn't much you can do to change a parent's mind, they are such stubborn creatures. You can try and get your dad on your side, that always works. The last generation is so out of touch that they think videogames makes people kill, it's the most absurd thing ever. Yeah for those mentally unstable, sure it gets them killing. Bot not everyone is like that. Even though I'm old enough to buy my own rated M games, my parents still insist I don't play them as they make me violent as they claim. They don't understand that those games are a way of relieving stress, not creating it for the most part ( although sometimes omfg I wana punch the game in the face because it cheats!).

thats the thing though. she dose think i'm mature enough to do this. she just wont let me play it because the ESRB (scum) have put a number on the box higher than 16... thats the only argument she puts whenever i try to talk to her!

give your money to your friends mom or dad and ask them to buy it for you and play the game in secret.

Always the best way...

@Topic/non spam:

Do you/we even have the right to complain? It's not 18 rated for nothing... Of course we do!

Maybe, "Old" people/parents, just don't want to face the world, they wanna believe that nobody watches pornography, that killing is only something that happens in Iraq, that 15 year olds never cursed..

Well, atleast the kind of people who won't let their kids play such games as GTA...

Also, he should get rid of the GTA4 boxart or just hide it somewhere, and put the GTA4 disc in another game box he owns, and just play it in secret.

Tell her"would you rather me be on the streets killing people in real life, or killing people in a video game?"

Or maybe tell her to go talk to somebody, like the dude at the counter of EB Games, or Gamestop...

the only tv we've got is in the living room, where she spends most of her time. cryani.gif

this is F*cking irritating.

i respect that its an 18 and i also respect my mum in a ceratin way for attempting to "protect" me from such content, by that meaning her intentions are good. why is it that ALOT of parents buy Games like GTA for their kids without even thinking about it. although most of these kids turn into chavs and skinheads, in other words complete morons.

Ok. Plan B. Whatever that may be. Maybe you should bribe her, or tell her to go out and do some stuff, and get more social. Like tell her to go to go shopping, or experience the good nature of life. Then after she leaves, you freakin run to your console and play your system.

If your rich. Set up a security camera so it alarms you whenever she pulls up in the driveway! happy.gif

You answered your own question.

EDIT: If you listen to carbine or influenced by anyone to do that your not mature enough for the game. Theres not much you can do so just accept it.

It's because their parents don't monitor them and who they hang out with, or what they do.

Feel lucky to have a parent that cares for your well being. I don't believe that GTA IV would be harmful to you, but there is nothing that you can do really to help better your situation.

One idea to go with is ask your mom for a compromise. Ask her if you can rent it from blockbuster, or some other video game rental joint, and see what she thinks of it. That way if she dosn't like the game you don't lose as much money, and she can just ship it back to blockbuster. If she is ok with you and the way you play it, then maybe the next step could be buying it.

(Alternatively you could get a friend that will have it to bring it over and show her the game)

Try getting her involved too. I remember my dad didn't really care about what the game was like, but when I got Vice City I made sure that I got him involved.. he liked to just get the older style cars and cruise around.

It can be fun for everyone, you just have to slowly get your mom comfortable with the idea that you are mature enough to own the game, even with the M rating.

I even let my 7 year old sister play, and she was really hilarious to watch. She was scared that bumping into people while walking down the street would be really bad... and she NEVER did anything to break the law in San Andreas heh heh... (good times good times)

Babies usually get what they want by having a fit right? In all seriousness though, tell her you'll do whatever chores she wants you to do if you can get the game. Start by washing her car and doing other things for her she'll eventually give in and let you get the game.

Man that must suck being 15 and your mom treats you like your younger. She should respect your age and let you get the game. Back to topic , tell her you will prove your mature enough to play it by staying out of trouble, helping her around the house and doing good in school if your in school, that should change her mind. Also don't run around the house screaming "KILL THE WORLD" when you get it, because that might change her mind about letting you playing it. Another thing that helps is don't ask her every ten minutes "if she has changed her mind", because that will upset her more. Don't mention it to her again until a week or so from release then tell her how responsible you have been, and you feel she should respect your decision, because its just a game. If you act out and get into trouble though, good luck trying to get it...

just get one of your friends to buy the game for your birthday.

or make a sticker that looks like teen 12+ and put it on the box when trying to buy the game thats what I did on my video games. biggrin.gif
