ceedot
That's not a lot of money at all! I've never actually heard of that company, but hopefully they are actually good, and better than EA. It's actually $1.5 Billion it says. A mod/led-by should be able to change that for you. EDIT: I thought it was Rockstar being bought. Even if they buy it, Take 2, and Viacom would have to buy back Rockstar. Mike0
As long as GTA IV stays intact I dont care These "public" companies keep getting bought out and buy other companies its not even funny anymore I guess its called "consolidation".
derty
I've never actually heard of that company Seriously??? dude it's viacom! This would be a bad thing imo, and I think they should demand 3billion. http://www.viacom.com/ourbrands/Pages/default.aspx Viacom buys sh*t RIGHT BEFORE it gets HUGE. Like, Jesus huge. Gaming industry is predicted to be the biggest money maker soon... Viacom's interest in T2 especially is further solidity for that predicting. They even own Xfire. http://www.google.com/search?q=%22viacom+o...lient=firefox-a Edited February 7, 2008 by derty

EDIT: I thought it was Rockstar being bought. Even if they buy it, Take 2, and Viacom would have to buy back Rockstar. Viacom is a really big television/entertainment company over here in the states. Some things they control include MTV, Paramount Pictures, BET, and before 2005, CBS. So we could see the takeover as Viacom and Sumner Redstone (the CEO and Chairman, multi-billionaire) as their foray into further entertainment pursuits. This may also be a counteraction following the Vivendi/Activision and Blizzard merger, with Vivendi also holding considerable stakes in American telecom names. derty
Yea, I figgered it out :x rockstar's contract is up with T2 mid 2009. At which time Rockstar will buy GTA off of take two (yes, T2 owns GTA, not rockstar) and save them from their financial crap. This is probable, at least. If this does happen, Viacom won't buy them. However... Base 5 posters of 2pac in san andreas... a year after SA base 5 opens in africa, just miles away from where Dave Chappelle is getting treated for his case of the crazies... Base 5 is the african MTV (the continent, not BET ) Coincidence? Probably, but slamman WILL beg to differ! FallenSegal
This could be bad, but as long as the new hot shot is not some Rupert Murdoch wannabe and they leave Rockstar/GTA alone, I think it'll be okay. Besides, without any valid reason, I can't see Take-Two selling out right before GTA IV is released, that just doesn't make sense.

Ya they will probably wait to see how GTA 4 sales do and how much profit it generates before deciding to sell or not... But for all the investors out there, I'd say March - beginning of April would be a good time to buy TTWO stock if it dips below $15 per share. Because its gonna jump from those sales and plus if there is a buyout, the buying company always buys the stock at a nice premium.
ryuclan
Rockstar's contract with T2 is going to run out soon anyway. So if this is a bad move R* will distance itself from T2. But I wonder...who owns the IP for GTA, Manhunt, Midnight Club, Bully, and Table Tennis?

The majority of gamers don't want to upgrade their PCs every like 2 yrs just to make requirements for the next big game when they can have a console thats good for like 5 - 7 yrs. Westwood One bought out SmarTraveler, the company I was working for, and laid everyone off including me. However, they didn't lay off any of the idiots that work for Metro Traffic in the Washington D.C. office. Thanks a lot Viacom, no really, thank you.
