xtal256
Recently, my laptop has failed to go into hibernation. It has happened about 3 times in the last 2 weeks and never before then. Once it was because i tried to copy some large files with only 4% battery left (system auto hibernates at 4%). Not a smart thing to do. But then it happened other times too. It goes into standby and when i bring it back a message pops up in the task tray saying "something, something, system API failed, something". Can't remember. But hibernation won't work until i reboot. This time it was because FF was hanging on an applet which i thought i closed. Can anyone help me with this or at least tell me if there is help on the microsoft website. thanx EDIT: this guy here seems to have a similar problem. He has almost the same type of laptop as me and he posted recently. someone said it might be a problem with windows updates so hopefully i will get an update to fix it. Mind you, it has only happened once or twice for no reason (i.e not my fault). Edited February 7, 2008 by Haro
cold fusion 33
Try this forum here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/forum.php You will probably get better response there. Otherwise, do a virus scan, you may have an infection that is stopping your PC from going into hibernation.
xtal256
I followed the advice of the guy in the forum i found and installed a fix from microsoft. Apparently, Windows has trouble sometimes when you have over 1Gb of RAM. I recently (September) upgraded my ram from 512Mb to 1.5Gb so that may be part of the problem. Like i said, it has really only happened once or twice without me doing anything (first time i tried to copy a large amount of files right before it went into hibernation, last time it may have been because FF hung). Anyway, if it doesn't happen again i will know the fix worked.
