Bwag505
Never noticed this tunnel... dont remember it. WTF is gtafra? Stay on topic. Send a message to me if you want to know about it. And the tunnel in GTA3 probably led to Carcer City, a USA highway system that goes to Vice City or San Andreas, or maybe just a tunnel that goes into the countryside. And if there was a closed off tunnel in GTA4, the idea probably came from GTA3, but i doubt that it would lead to Old Liberty I was on topic.... did you not read the first part of my post? See now down here is a different paragraph where i can then change the topic, as you can do the same thing. It can be usefull if you are responding to a post such as mine where.... there is more than one topic... AMAZING.... ok, sorry man I'm telling you, listen to the older, err...and wiser. Stick with me kid and you'll be alright. huh?
FelipeVinhao
Who knows... Although the city was remade, it's still Liberty City. They may have kept some references so you believe is in fact the same we know, but added some streets "that we didn't notice before". If there was a tunnel at north of Liberty, it may leed to a small countryside, not like San Andreas, but similar to Lost Heaven (Mafia "1"). It's very clearly not the game Liberty City is pretty much anything but name. They don't even look the same...for example GTA III VS GTA IV. The islands don't even have the same names, and theres more of them this time around too. The tunnel, sadly, won't be there if you go looking for it in Alderney (Shoreside Vale) Who knows. That's why I want a street-map, only to feed this curiosity of mine. And about the names, it's just a detail. The boroughts are confirmed to have new names, but nothing about the districts. Francis Int'l Airport is back, with the same name. Who knows if Saint Mark's, Torrington or Cedar Grove aren't back too? GTA4's Liberty has even a parody of Salvatore's mansion. The new airport is also on the wrong side of the map, in Dukes. In GTA III it was is the west part of town in Shoreside Vale (New Jersey) and now it's in Dukes (Queens). That means that the GTA III version is based off of Newark Liberty International and GTA IV's version is based off of JFK International. And since when has Salvatore's mansion been confirmed in the game? I can't think of any preview that confirmed that.
Jr. Young
aww really, are stauton and portland island both returning? In a way. Stauton is modeled from Manhattan Island, and there is an island modeled after Manhattan in IV. It's going to be very different, but you'll see similarities. For example, it was stated that the big park in the middle (modeled after the Central Park in Manhattan) will make a return. There is also a Flat Iron building and a few other similarities. But the IV's island is bigger, so it will definitely be mostly new. Same goes for Portland. I think it was modeled off a portion of Jersey City, and again, there is an island modeled from Jersey City in IV. You're right about most of that, and I agree with you on your point there. However, I believe Portland was Brooklyn+Queens and part of Shoreside Vale was New Jersey. Actually, thinking about it, I'd say it went like this with GTA III: NE Shoreside Vale = The Bronx SW Shoreside Vale = New Jersey Staunton Island = Manhattan Portland = Queens + Brooklyn The reason I think that part of Shoreside was the Bronx, is because I've heard that the south side of the Bronx is rife with gangs and crime. So, maybe that's why they had the $outh $ide Hoodz there. _______ On-topic - Things will be different. Edit: Well, maybe not so different. I wouldn't be surprised if the tunnel was there, in Alderney this time, and blocked off again. Edit #2: People who think this is the same old LC, but just *updated*, are obviously in for a BIG surprise. Jonny04
Liberty City is completely rebuilt... There is a tunnel in the artwork of that new German preview. Yes, but I doubt it is the same tunnel from III. This tunnel was in Shoreside Vale, which is not returning in IV at least not to my knowledge). aww really, are stauton and portland island both returning? Read up people. LC has nothing to do with the frankly poor GTA3 map, it is now a new and rebuilt based on NYC as about 95% of people know.
CarpetDweller
I was only thinking about these tunnels yesterday. I know that Liberty City is being completely redesigned from scratch but I thought they might put one again in as they caused alot of fuss amongst GTAIII's fans for a while. It could make a nice little reference / joke if they had a very similar blocked tunnel in Aldernay. Especially if they later choose to shock us by having them open to a surprise extra area. I still find odd when people put far more thought into things than those that created them did. People still talk about the tunnels leading to somewhere specific like Carcer or the Ghost Town. Some people even go as far as to suggest that the Ghost Town must be in Carcer City. The tunnels were just there to suggest that the world is bigger than just Liberty City, but we are never meant to go there or know what it is. It doesn't lead anywhere more specific than "Upstate". The reason that the tunnels appear to head to Ghost Town is just because they had to hide it somewhere and the hills provide the best cover for this. There is a problem with bringing back blocked tunnels. Helicopters. The blocked tunnels can only really suggest a bigger map if we aren't allowed to see where the tunnels go. It worked in GTAIII and LCS because we weren't supposed to be able to see what is behind the hills. With the inclusion of Helicopters they would need an annoying effect where we are automatically turned around or have the hills so high that we can't fly over them. Either way isn't that realistic. The other option is to have the tunnels lead downwards under the water. Then we just assume they resurface somewhere else. This could be utilised later in DLC or not. Something I'd quite like to see, but is very unlikely would be the following: The last part of the map we open would be Aldernay. Here we find some rising hills near the end of the map and leading into them is a blocked tunnel. This never opens. However we are able to fly over or around the hills and see what is on the other side. The tunnels lead to a film studio which, among other sets, include a replica of the "Ghost Town" set from GTAIII. They could also have any locations used for GTAIV cutscenes and a few scattered props like the "Eat till you explode" sign from Marco's Bistro. It would be nice to see a couple of "sets" for the interior of Tommy's hotel room or Mansion office from Vice. It would be a way of referencing the past without it really affecting the new game. Only really for the fans and just for fun. But, as I say, not likely.

rowben86
on gta3 there was a tunnel on the third island that had two ends in the rich part of the island, both ends were blocked with no chance of being able to get in even in a dodo. in gta:lcs the tunnel was back and you could go in it, you could go from one side to the other, but halfway through this tunnel there was another tunnel in the tunnel leading away from liberty city. this tunnel is not enterable. now here is gta4, we are back in liberty city. i want to know what you think is in this mysterious tunnel. I think your minds a bit "Tunneled" and you may be suffering from "Tunnel Vision". Let me examine you
Flexo Slim
http://www.farfromneutral.com/exodus/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/o_rly.jpg This is why I hate the GTAFRA. All they do is spam up topics. Now, admittedly, I do too sometimes, but I don't go around acting as if I'm smart for it. Yeah i don't get the GTAFRA it kind of breaks the board rules of not to reply to spam topics.

erbzzz
I had gta3 for pc and there was a thing you could download and install and it opened up this tunnel and the subsequent one inside of it and it took you to a ghost map that was small and uncomplete.
