I've got a math test today and im stuck on this kink of stuff

 

Simplify:

 

1)a) 2 + k x k

 

b) 2 x k + k

 

c) 2 + k + k

 

d) 2 x k x k

B) 2k+k

c) 2+2k

d) 2k^2

 

 

Right? I think.

Do the multiplication first, then add, so you get: 2 + k²

 

 

b. 2 x k + k

 

Do the multiplication first, then add: 2k + k = 3k

 

 

c. 2 + k + k = 2 + 2k = 2(1 + k)

 

d. 2 x k x k = 2k²

That's some easy sh*t. You just need to remember this mnemonic device, which tells you the order in which to do everything: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. PEMDAS.

You can just say what grade you are over there and people will convert it for you. Just like how they did your math for you. Lazy.
