I think I just realized how epic Ten is by Pearl Jam. I've always liked it and listened to a few of the songs from the album every now and then but I've never really given it a good listen which I have been doing over the past week. It's f*cken incredible.

Ten is indeed epic, I agree. Once is just...brutally intense. Deep is also hard hitting, as are Jeremy and Why Go. Then you have your more moodier slower songs like Release and Garden and the more calm Oceans. And of course the anthems like Even Flow, Black and Alive. If you can't enough of Ten, check out their song State of Love and Trust. It was originally recorded for Ten but eventually ended up on the Singles (1992) soundtrack. Its just as epic as something like Alive.

And dude, tell me you have Vs. That one is even heavier.

@Nirvana argument: lol, it just never ends.

Alright, I'll check those tracks out. And don't you worry, I have Vs.

Vs. and Ten are equal imo. Although I think I might rank Ten higher now, but they're both great anyway.

Dark.

Pearl Jam is great, I have their greatest hits album, "Rearviewmirror" and absolutely love it. I especially like the songs "Betterman", "Jeremy", "Even Flow", "Once" and "Rearviewmirror".

Right now I'm listening to Breaking Benjamin's "Saturate" album. So far I'm liking Polyamorous. icon14.gif

Uh god I had to get out of that "Worst group ever" topic. They had the nerve to say that Nickelback sucks because "all their songs are the same" so I said that Nirvana's songs sound similar, which is one reason why I like them, because they have their own style, and they said that Nirvana sucked. That's just inexcusable. confused.gif

Maybe because Nirvana does suck?

GTFO of this topic.

I couldn't have said it better than that man

why can't you give me a decent counterpoint to what I said instead of just echoing pathetic statements like that? I have an opinion. If you don't agree with it, challenge it, or just don't post at all.

Yeah I personally prefer No Code and Yield these days, but their best album of this decade has to be the S/T. Of not that then Binaural.

I think from No Code and on they have just been superb. Their early works are great too though. Riot Act and No Code are probably my favorites.

I never really liked No Code either. but I liked all their other albums very much, from Ten to the advocado album. they have changed over the years, but I still like them. both the "old" Pearl Jam (Ten, Vs.) as the "new" Pearl Jam (Riot act, advocado)

does anyone have the unreleased cuts/rarities album? it's not really an album but it leaked on the net some time ago. good quality versions of Just a Girl and Brother.. smile.gif I like the brother with vocals. why did they even leave that version off Lost Dogs?

Actually I'm new to No Code myself. tounge.gif Come on, don't tell me you don't like Lukin and Habit at least. Both heavy songs that wouldn't sound out of place on Vs. Hail, Hail also drew me to the album. Lukin is my #1 PJ song right now. Anybody else have the Immagine In Cornice live DVD? It's really good, a must have.

Yeah the acoustic Lukin is the reason I started listening to No Code. I also really like the ambient guitar effects during all the footage of the various cities/towns.

Speaking of Lukin.

Matt Lukin, founding bassist of the Melvins, went on to play in Mudhoney. Two of the earliest "grunge" bands.

The singer/guitarist of the Melvins, King Buzzo, has recently expressed that he would like to bring Matt Lukin back into the Melvins, maybe put their current drummer on bass and put Lukin on drums! This would be awesome.

Discuss.

Damn, the internet is just full of Nirvana haters. Well it goes to show how different music opinions are and why I can't take music critics seriously. For example just look up a song you hate on last FM and read the comments and at least 75% of the people love it. I was thinking about how much the song (and I mean song only) Kid A sucks and I look it up and some Radiohead types just love it.

I can basically train myself to like something as long as I can get used to it (assuming it isn't Soulja boy or something that really really blows) so thats what im trying to do with other grunge. I like a couple SG and Alice songs and always likes some of STP but im trying to expand on it. I could never get into Ten by Pearl Jam but I'll run through it once or twice and maybe suddenly it'll kick ass, who knows? worked for In Rainbows.

It's not always the haters' fault. When you have embarassing fanboys saying things like "ZOMG TEEN SPIRIT BEST SONG EVAR BETTER THAN ANY SONG EVAR MADE" it makes matters worse.

If there is one Golden Rule of the internet, it is that you can never, ever, ever, ever, never, evernever, ever, ever, ever...ever have a normal discussion about Nirvana. It'll always turn into a flamewar. You have your insecure metalheads, you have your snobby classic rock fans, and just general people who come in to say "LOL THEYRE OVERRATED". Gee, what an original thought. It brings this to mind:

Hate, if you want to hate

If it keeps you safe

If it makes you brave

Don't come over here

And piss on my gate

Save it just keep it

Off my wave

Yeah things do tend to break down whenever Nirvana is mentioned, its not like we're looking for someone to jump in and let us know how much they suck. It's too bad that some 'obsessed' people have to ruin it for everybody though, they're not The Beatles but I like them, that's all.

I got a kid like that in my class, OMG NIRVANA IS THE BEST KURT oWNZ etc.. I told him that I didn't like Nirvana, and now he doesn't like it anymore as well tounge.gif (well, not that I exactly hate Nirvana, but like everyone says, they're overrated.)

Keep it off my wave

Well, The Pixies weren't grunge.

So you're even less of a fan than you thought.

I see no reason why you couldn't get into earlier Melvins. Songs like Grinding Process were the basis of Nirvana's whole existence.

hell yeah.. smile.gif played their last album to death..

from UG:

Pearl Jam has gotten a start on its next album, but it's still in "its very infant stages" according to guitarist Mike McCready.

"We've had one session of writing and it has yielded ... about five ideas so far," McCready told Billboard.com during a conference call with reporters about this year's Bonnaroo Music Festival, which Pearl Jam will headline on June 14. "Some of it's kind of poppy and some of it's a little hard. We want it to grow up a little bit. We have to revisit it a few times."

Pearl Jam is working on the album, the follow-up to 2006's "Pearl Jam," with longtime associate Brendan O'Brien. And though the band is known for previewing new and unrecorded material at its shows, McCready says that's unlikely to happen on Pearl Jam's upcoming North American tour.

"We might get into some sort of jam," the guitarist said. "We have about 200 songs to pull from, so we'll do that and maybe do some obscure B-sides. For new stuff, I don't know if we have it refined enough to want to play it in front of an audience yet. We don't want to hack in front of everybody."

Nevertheless, McCready said Pearl Jam is looking forward to its first visit to Bonnaroo, where drummer Matt Cameron will also be performing a jazz set. "I think it's a perfect fit," McCready said. "We try to keep everything as in-house and small and as punk rock and do-it-yourself as we can. That's part of our way of doing business. That fits right in with how Bonnaroo is doing theirs."

As for jamming with other acts at the festival, McCready said that "if we run into somebody, 'Hey, you want to come up and jam?,' that's kind of how our band works." But he's hoping to run into one person in particular.

"I'd love to have Jack White up," McCready said. "I think he's just a phenomenal guitar player. I'd love to see him play up close ... because he's got a killer voice and he's a great lead player, too. That would be exciting to me."

McCready also said that Pearl Jam plans to continue making live recordings available to fans from its upcoming tour -- which starts June 11 in West Palm Beach, Fla. -- but isn't sure what form that will take yet.
