tristan
I wouldn't say Muscle Cars died in 78. For the most part they died in the early 70's. Nah mate, they were still going strong in Australia... until Holden killed off the Monaro and Ford released the horrendous XD Falcon... Horrendus XD falcon hey? Your a f*cking dickwit- the XD the lesser evils of the time! Can anyone say "european engineered VB commodore"? Holden well and truely f*cked itself for the rest of the 1980s- i think at one point they went broke and General Motors had to bring them upto black ink again. Then the VL commodores....ughhh! The XD falcon showed european styling mixed with a brute Australian body and engine combo. I think i can remember it WINNING bathurst in 1980 before a drugged up holden supporter threw a rock onto the top of the mountain. It also claimed bathurst/ ATCC double in 1981. The HK monaro cant be the King of the Muscle cars- that belongs to the XT falcon- Phase 1 derived from the american Mustang since it started the Australian Muscle car scene. btw- lets get this straight, the kingswood never was a factory muscle car. It was only produced in the era and ignorance has grouped it into being a muscle car. It was overweight and underpowered when compared to the Falcons of the time. Ronnyboy
Now you speakin' my language 1967 Ford/Shelby Mustang GT500 I have had so meany dreams about that baby! 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 An absolutly beautiful machine, runs on a simple 302 V8, but conquered the track. Those looks could kill any Camaro. 1970 Ford Torino A beautiful car that is usually shadowed by the Mustang. Not only is it beautiful, it used that big mean 429 engine

I reckon Ford f*cked itself as much as Holden did during the 80s. I respect Ford; I'm not some one-eyed Holden fanboy; I love any decent muscle car. But where did I say that the Kingswood was a muscle car? I can remember where A9X Toranas grabbed all the top 9 spots, 1979 in bathurst. The HK monaro cant be the King of the Muscle cars- that belongs to the XT falcon- Phase 1 derived from the american Mustang since it started the Australian Muscle car scene. You don't have to be the first there to be a king. tristan
"when the muscle car truly died. They ended with the HZ Monaro" The HZ never had a Monaro model- only a sports varient named "GTS", anyway the Monaro was just a 2-door Kingswood with some badges and a V8 engine. Ford may of f*cked itself in the 80's with the dropping of the 302 and 351 cleveland but thats when they had THE largest share of the local market. The Toranas only claimed the top 9 spots in Bathurst in '79 because Ford had dissolved any direct support finaincially to a Factory team. From the mid 70's onwards it had been privateers running Ford teams....not Ford running teams. "The best eventually comes out as the king" The original Holden Monaro HK never won a ATCC...... And a counter action towards your engine "pawnage" ladder... when you say "302" do you mean the original Windsor engine made in the '60's, the 302 cleveland made in the 70's/ early 80's or even the 5.0 Windsor that made its way into the Xr8s of 1992-2002? The 308 was developed as a racing engine- the Cleveland 302 never saw active duty in the ATCC..... the 302 Windsor of the 60's powered legendary cars such as the Shelby GT350. The 307 never saw active service in a racing monaro... it was a import engine and was designated to Street Cars...again never went up against a 302 either Cleveland or Windsor. 289 was phased out before the 253 was annouced into the Holden lineup in 1968.... 327 was a Hi performance engine Holden imported DIRECTLY to take on the 302 winsor....and won since it was a superior engine. The 351 Windsor never won Bathurst against the 327...but a ATCC champion in Mustang Guise it was. The 350 Chev was only used in the handfull of Monaros in 1969 yes? And the 351 windsor won the ATCC that year......If you are comparing the 350 chev to the 351 Cleveland I believe the Cleveland had a longer life span, more victories and produced more power...they also never raced eachother ontop of the mountain. You sound like a poopie head.

tristan
.........but I actually quoted you as mentioning a HZ monaro. I couldn't give a flying f*ck about when the 2 door ended....there were 4 door monaros aswell. On the A9X being a better car- its funny how the XC Coupe got a 1-2 finish in '77 against them? HDTs Toranas were a level above everyone because of the direct funding from Holden, the XC falcon teams that year were underfunded.... meaning no direct support from Ford. What do I care that the 350 lived on in the HQ? It never saw bathurst again. I simply stated a fact on the 289 beating the 253...yes? You know sh*t all about Muscle cars- I doubt you've even driven/ worked on something 10 years old Of course you don't give a flying fuk when the 2-door Holdens ended, because you're a narrow-minded Ford fan. Go home in your sh!tbox XD Falcon. Plenty of my mates are Ford fans but they aren't ignorant, narrow minded or one-eyed like you are. They appreciate any street machine like I do, whether it be Ford, Holden or Chrysler. We all point and laugh at pitiful little rice burners. It's all good Mate. Armchair motorsporter, lol. My dad used to own an LH Torana with a mild 307. I drove it along the dirt roads in the outback, and I soon found myself fixing bits here and there (307 + air filter + dirt = not good). tristan
So because you learned how to replace the aircleaner in your dad's torana, you suddenly have a rep? Pfffffffffffttttttttttttttt. I don't have a XD falcon. I find that the VN-VS Holden crowd seem to be also the ricer crowd aswell..... hence them being mechanically retarded and only do Cosmetic modifications. Pump Bumper
To all who think muscle cars died in the 70's... as others have said, not true. here's my baby, i've had it for about a year and it is true love It's pretty much stock at this point, but come the spring i'll have a whole new exhaust, including headers. i'll also be looking into porting the heads on it. it came with a 305, not the best performer ever. if finances allow, it'll have a 350 in it at some point. oh yeah, just basic specs: 1988 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, Crager Keystone rims, 4 speed automatic (nothing else came with these), 3.73 posi rear end, stock 305ci engine, 103,000 miles.
