Muscle Cars!

Hi guys.

As you can see, I come from the land down under, where it rains beer. tounge.gif Also happens to be the land of the muscle car.

People interested in muscle cars, be they Aussie or Yank, come and chat about anything to do with them.

By 'muscle car' I mean stuff pre-1978, that's when the muscle car truly died. They ended with the HZ Monaro and XC Cobra...

Oh, and no rice burners. biggrin.gif

Tuff luck mate. V8s only. 245/265 Hemi slant sixes allowed.

Gotta love the 69 chargers.

Some of my favourites are the HG Monaro, LJ Torana and the 69 Chargers.

Always wanted a 1967 Impala lowrider too.

Oh, and as for the SUVs, the rules said pre-1978... sorry mate.

UP THE HOLDENS!! biggrin.gif

I wouldn't say Muscle Cars died in 78. For the most part they died in the early 70's. But Muscle Cars have still been on and off ever since then.

The 87 Buick GNX and any other Grand National (even if they do have turbo V6's)

The 85-88 Oldsmobile 442

The 83-88 SS Monte Carlo

And the SS Aerocoupe

The 94-96 SS Impala

The 78 Dodge Aspen Kit Car (as goofy as it looks, its 360 4 barrel made it quite a performer)

The 78-79 Dodge Lil' Red Express Truck (a Muscle Truck)

But as classic Muscle Cars go, my favorite will always be the 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A

Time for some Aussie cars.

This here is the Holden Torana A9X, this is a race version but you could get it without decals. Ran a 308, M21 4-speed and Salisbury LSD out back, was easily the best handling muscle car of all time.

user posted image

Here is the Torana SLR/5000, similar to the A9X but it was a sedan, and didn't handle as good. Looks horn though.

Possibly the king of Aussie muscle cars, the Holden Monaro GTS... mmm.

user posted image

Another legend, the Falcon GTHO Phase III (long name, but even longer winning streak). Ran a 351, top-loader and 9-inch, a bloody tough car in all aspects.

user posted image

Holden VK SS Group 3, was basically a race car for the road. De-stroked 308, now to 304ci to meet Touring Car requirements. I know it's not a real-deal muscle car like I said because it was built in 1984, but it kept the performance of earlier muscle cars.

And last but not least, the E38 Charger R/T - yes, we had our own Chargers Down Under in the '70s. The only true muscle car to run a six-cylinder, the Charger used a 265 Hemi (4.3 litre) slant six, and was pretty damn good at the circuit.

Then get out if you don't like it... as for the street machiners here, keep going!

Bloody oath mate, that is a nice LJ. Does it run the original 186, or has *somebody* slotted in a 308? wink.gif

Nah mate, they were still going strong in Australia... until Holden killed off the Monaro and Ford released the horrendous XD Falcon...
