A great City/Area R* hasnt done in the US

I think a San Diego and Tijuana map would be great with a border in between with both sides being roughly the same size.

Heres a good look at one are Im talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego-Tij...tropolitan_Area

DISCUSS THIS AREA, NOT AREAS YOU WANT!

I think a combination of San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico.

I think this very plausible because Rockstar has a office thing there or something.

And it would be an awesome idea with the border in between the two cities.

This brings about certain things about gameplay:

-Smuggling across the border (drug trafficking, organ trafficing, chop shops, weapons, etc.)

-Two different police forces (American and mexican which would very corrupt and easily take a bribe)

-San Diego has lots of minorities, heres from highest to lowest: hispanic, black, asian)

-San Diego has a very interesting geography in the sense of the bay it is in

-san diego has all sorts of white people, the super rich (la jolla), surfers for sure in there, white lower/middle class

-it also has a airport right next to a militray bas right next to the skyscrapers.

-obvioulsy they are gangs, in both cities

-Mexico would be awesome it would be so grungy and all sorts of myths and stuff around it like giant rats and teenagers going there to get drunk and then get killed or arrested.

-internation Gan Wars, cartels

-heavily Drug focused

-etc.

-etc,

I just thing a border area like that has a lot of potential since all of shady stuff happens that could easily be exaggerated on, and my suggested location would be ideal because both are major cities right on top of each other and the border and next to the ocean. And u got two very different areas that look different and both peoples have different values and ways of thinking. I think this would probably be the best new location for GTA that hasnt been repeated before, that would bring in a lot of new gameplay. Im pretty familiar with both cities being to both several times, i think some cool things they could add to the map would be the San onofre Nuclear Power plant at the north of the map which is next door to a really big Military base called Camp Pendelton, and at the South point of the Mexico part could be some kind of Mexican resort place like that of cancun or acapulco or something

What do u guys think about this?

Any people from that are that could add to this?

Discuss.

Heres some pictures for inspiration

-San Onofre Power planet R* could definitely make dun of how these look like tits http://www.emagazine.com/images/1101feat1b.jpg

(funny story goes behind this, i had my water polo hellweek in highschool at the beach next to do this and we had to do a 7 mile run and my friends went the wrong way and went inside the plant and some soldierwith m16s showed up in a SUv to stop them scared the sh*t out of them)

-downtown area http://www.midway.org/atf/cf/%7BF2639556-5...Skyline_300.jpg

-a nice caricature of san diego http://www.wall-maps.com/Unique_Media/SanDiego-over.jpg

-the border http://www.jacobward.com/images/magazinear...outletmall2.jpg

-a good map of the area (mexico is towards the end of the pic http://www.flightsim.com/review/mega04/del...tijuana-big.jpg

-tijuana http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Zona_del_rio_Tijuana.JPG

Who says it has to be in the USA or north america? Maybe next one will be in another country out east. That would really be something with the graphics today.

No, you're going to edit your original post and add additional content to what you've already posted.

As for future GTA's? I'm a big fan of Chicago; lots of mobster history there, would be interesting to see some sort of title set during the prohibition era. (Just for kicks and Al Capwnage, of course.)

Southside Dukes Ballas

They still have cities like Chicago, Baltimore, D.C., Philadelphia, Bay Area( Sacramento, Oakland etc..) New England, New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas, Memphis and many other US cities they can base GTA cities on as well as Vice City and San Andreas still but with more places added to them not to mention we still haven't had Carcer City yet.

I'm also all for GTA outside of the US in places like The Carribeans, The UK, China, Japan, South America, Columbia, Rio De Janerio etc. Hell I'd even be down for a GTA place based off something in Canada.

We've had cities and small states so now all that's left is to make 3 or 4 cities the size of LC circa 2008 and make it a state with smaller towns and cities or make 8 or 9 smaller cities the size of LC circa 2001 with smaller towns and cities and make a state. Then the next logical step would be nations and countries, then continents then the whole world.

Topic starter has some good points, but... they already DID california (San Andreas) and San Diego was not a part of that, so how would they go about that?

I like the border Idea though. maybe a game set in Texas? Then again, i'm dying for a game set in Europe... or maybe Sao Palo Brazil or Mexico City or even Tokyo would be the snit.

My doubts about a location outside of the US stem mostly from the game being a satirical take on American livelihood. tounge.gif

Which Rock explained may not hold GTA to American settings in it's future outlook.

I recall them being asked that very question

Thats exactly why i dont think international cities wouldnt work.

And i dont think there isnt as much of concentration of people anywhere else on the border than Tijuana and san diego, and it wouldnt guranttee it would be on the coast which is aproblem i think. And texas is ugly area i think being all flat and it would bore cause there would be just two fundamentally the same characters redneck texans vs. mexicans. the fact is that this GTA IV not three so it doesnt matter if san diego wasnt in san andreas, or they could make its own state. R* would benefit from this border thing cause no one has done anythin like that and i dont think any games have taken place in San Diego. And i think its probably crossed their minds since R* has a team in San Diego. And with the controversy of illegal immigration it could provide, so much humor.

Sam Hauser I think was the one being asked and he said they have no plans to keep it USA based, it's wait and see at this point. BUT Minnesota is the next logical setting for the Midwest, and my home state!!!!

That would be gay....Anyway New orleans would be a perfect setting for the next gta.... We have the highest murder rate, mardi gras, and drunk people 24/7.....cant get any better than that.... biggrin.gif

I think the midwest would be great... a San Andreas style thing where you got Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Detroit. And make that like a whole state with a combination of those cities or all of them...

I hated New Orleans... so damn dirty... It's like the anus of the Mississippi, all the crap (sh*t literally) that gets put in up north at like Minneapolis St. Paul and then St. Louis ends up all over down in New Orleans and in the gulf. Not to mention the fact that the incompetencies of federal and local officials have left a lot of the mess from Katrina still there. Not that like Minneapolis has the greatest crime rate itself, but you act as if having the worst crime rate and it's headlining hallmark of drunken tourists is a good thing?

Personally I want snow. And the midwest would be the perfect setting to incorporate it into.

Reincarnated Kenji

The border ideas would be make a great storyline for the next GTA game, but I'm hoping that the city will be a replica of Tokyo or a South American version of GTA SA without the hood theme of course.

Algonquin Assassin
Chicago or Detroit - or a combination of those - would be my top choices, if they kept it in the U.S.

Yea they're my choices too.

Maybe even Washington D.C?

For a foreign country I would like somewhere in Mexico, or maybe even Moscow?

I wouldn't like it in London, as it would be too much like The Getaway.

Not to be completely biased, but Jamaica would be extremely interesting.

It's one of the most beautiful countries while also one of the most violent.

There's so much you can do in an open world........

Before the first trailer I was hoping for something like Mexico in the late 70's with drug deals and stuff, maybe one day it will be done.

Just about every Grand Theft Auto title has been in a U.S. setting why does it have to be for the next game? dozingoff.gif

Although Team Soho (the developers of The Getaway series) attempted a Grand Theft Auto clone set in London, I think Rockstar North could do a much better job. It would be great for us British fans to relate to. For those who are ignorant as well London is pretty heavy with crime especially gun crime which is still increasing. Manchester would be another good location because it is the second largest city in England. Perhaps London, Manchester and Birmingham which are the 3 biggest cities in England.

The possibilities are endless as to where the next location will be set but all I am trying to say is I don't see why it has to be set in America almost every time.

CarpetDweller

I'm impressed with the effort put into the opening post at trying to get the idea across to us. I think it was well presented with info and images. Certainly better than if it had just said "GTA should be in San Diego. Discuss".

I do think it could make a good setting for GTA, but I also believe that Rockstar could take most places in the world and successfully recreate them in the style of GTA. The problem for me comes with the marketing, concept and what makes it new and exciting to players of the old games. The location should really provoke a distinct mental image in the publics mind even if they've never been there.

I'm sure most people here would be very interested to see a totally redesigned next-gen Vice City and San Andreas. However I think the same people would also see spending so much time & money on making them a waste because we've "been there, done that". We want something new. Somewhere that excites us.

As some have mentioned San Diego can seem a bit too similar to San Andreas. It's true that you have the border aspect, which has always appealed to me, but is that enough to make it different? For the purpose of my argument I'm going to assume it will stay in the US for now. What I say might seem a bit ignorant, but I'm trying to express how important the immediate uneducated response to a particular place is. It doesn't necessarily matter what the crime statistics are or the variety of landscape, landmarks and ethnic groups are. An essential factor is what do we think of when we hear "Las Vegas", "New York", Miami". We instantly have a concept we can latch on to and get excited about.

It's like if someone said to an american "There's a new GTA game coming out based on London". The american would have an instinctive response to that based on the global image of London. Years of coverage in movies & other media have given us a distinct idea of what London is. Say the game is instead set in the city of Chichester and I don't think you'd get the same reaction. Brand recognition is what is required.

So to the point (about time) -

As someone from outside the US I still have quite distinct ideas about certain areas in in the US. These all provoke a instant feeling of what makes them what they are. For me, and I think alot of other non-US citizens, the states can be represented by the following:

New York

Florida

California

Louisiana

Texas

Washington D.C.

Middle America (the ones beginning with vowels or Ks)

Alaska

Hawaii

I think that everything else can sort of can get grouped in with these when it comes to the immediate consumer response. For me, San Diego does not have the immediate global appeal that a fictional city based on the Texas/Mexico border might have. GTA games need the audience's concept of the location to hang the atmosphere and humour on.

I don't think it'd be too much like the Getaway, i think that's like saying GTA IV is going to be like III just because they're based in the same city. There would always be the Rockstar twist to the game / setting etc. I'd quite enjoy a modern day GTA London.

GTA would never work in a non-english speaking country, unless you want all the peds talking in a foreign language, the billboards in a foreign language etc.

I'd like to see an English one. It would have to be southern England though, as the middle and north have fairy strong accents - wouldn't like to see a Scottish/Welsh/Irish one either because them accents are insane to understand.

I'm thinking an Aus one would be cool as f*ck.
