imheretostay
I'm a huge fan of stuff I can sit around listening to that calms me down, like Stairway to Heaven. I'm also a fan of Radiohead, which is also rather, you know, "chill'ish", but I'm looking for something that's more like Stairway to Heaven - long, quiet, and relaxing. I remember hearing my dads records when I was younger and he had some good calming music in there. Anyone know some?
Chickstick
A "calming" song I quite like, although it's not really that long, is San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair) by Scott McKenzie. Apart from that, I don't really go for easy listening stuff.

Scarface187
Opeth - To Bid You Farewell Opeth - Harvest Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways Porcupine Tree - Even Less Porcupine Tree - Don't Hate Me Porcupine Tree - Trains Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize Bright Eyes - Easy/Lucky/Free (as much as I don't really like that band, I enjoy that song and its pretty mellow) Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Moya Frank Zappa - Watermelon in Easter Hay Wilco - Spiders (Kidsmoke) Mogwai - Auto Rock Moby - God Moving Over the Face of the Waters The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin Rush - Subdivisions Rush - Digital Man Rush - The Weapon (these songs aren't very quiet but they are some of the more mellow Rush songs) Pink Floyd - the entire Ummagumma live album if you haven't heard it Pretty much just a random list of mellow tunes I pulled out of my ass that I enjoy. You might of noticed I put a lot of Porcupine Tree songs. Just look into that band a lot more.
Mullen
Frank Zappa - Watermelon in Easter Hay Man, thank you for reminding me 'bout this song. It's ORGASMIC! As for other mellow tunes. Seeing as you like classic rock, I think you should get the Surrealistic Pillow album by Jefferson Airplane. It always puts me in a chilled out daze. XN22
classic rock Argh, I hate that term. Anyways, most of Pink Floyd's early stuff. Check out Obscured By Clouds.

Mullen
classic rock Argh, I hate that term. Yeah, it's a little bit vague. But it's still ok in my book, as most people use it to refer to a fairly specific kind of music. On the other hand, I think terms like 'electronica' need to be eradicated from our language. Electronic music has got a great number of genres, and it's really frustrating for a person like me who can differentiate most of them to hear that word thrown around all the time. matthew1g
does it have to be the same genre? if not here's some good uplifting trance songs: best one of all ( this is the same genre): I'd also recommend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoIlQmsocfI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZkH6YQKEIM Edited January 27, 2008 by matthew1g
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus
Rush - Subdivisions Doesn't that song pick up towards the end? Also, it's pretty drum heavy, right? Great song, though. f*ck limitations If you like Led Zeppelin, I think you should listen to "The Rain Song." Right now, I'm listening to "Chromatic (Party 3)" by Faust and it's pretty calming (and repetitive)--although it shares nothing in common with "Stairway to Heaven." jebness
Dream On - Aerosmith is one of my favourite chillaxed songs with that guitar riff and drum rolls. Then theirs any of Jack Johnson, Pete Murrey and Ben Harper. Can't forget Bob Marley, anything reggae. Give this one a listen to.

Canoxa
Opeth's Damnation album. It's basically Opeth's clean songwriting bliss without a single growl in sight or a hint of overdrive, as far as I remember. Pink Floyd, or psychedelic/prog bands from the 70's. Reggae and dub will most likely do the trick.

Jay
If you're more inclined to rock music, progressive stuff like Floyd which has already been suggested would be super duper. But if you are a bit into electronic stuff, ambient music would be equally as super duper. Groups like Air, Thievery Corporation, Cassius and Boards of Canada are good, and solo artists like Brian Eno, Richard David James (Aphex Twin) and Brian Transeau (BT, specifically "This Binary Universe") are good as well. Calms me right down.
