TheDude5000
Lately I've been wondering what the hell to do in life. Right now one thing that has caught my attention is film. Either directing, or acting. I'm keeping my options open, but this looks like a good one. http://nyfa.com/ Here is a rough estimate of how things would work for me if I did this: -Get a job here at home, save up some money over the course of the year. -Study and prepare for the application to the Academy -Attempt to find a decent apartment somewhere in NYC. Now I'm being realistic here, financial wise, so Manhattan is most likely out of the question. The Academy is located there, but if I have to get in apartment in another borough, taking a bus or taxi would be just fine. -Move to NYC, start attending classes. And if I do want to do this course of action, and I can will it...then that means by this September(when classes start) I will be living in New York City(which I am just fascinated with right now), and attending a prestigious film school. While living there, I'll try to work two jobs to keep myself afloat. I can imagine how amazing it would be..I mean forging a career for myself on the weekdays, working jobs during weeknights...and on the weekends just cool off. All in NYC. I think that's a lifestyle I'd be happy with, and I think it's a realistic enough "dream" that I can do it. So how about it?
chillwinston8717
Sounds pretty good. Are you any good at acting? Have you done any classes or anything?

No.1 Loonie
Sounds perfect. I wish I could do something like that, but I doubt I'm good enough to be a director (horrible actor I am). Anyways, right now I'm pursuing one of my interests, biology, which is good and all but SFU (doubt more than 1% of you know it) is quite the dreary campus + inactive/boring. bagga rabbit
Write yourself a script like "ROCKY" and go "whore yourself".
Taste Of Chaos
Sounds great, Hope you acheive what your aiming for! I'm hoping to go into the arts myself though i'm more into photography... However they are bothe the same in the sense that they are both very rewarding if you can keep ahead of the competition. Best of luck dude! Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell.

I was thinking of going to NYFa last year until I found out that it's 17 grand a semester. I'll probably try to enter next year though. I believe that if you're interested, then you should go with it.

ThaddeusMcKlown
-Attempt to find a decent apartment somewhere in NYC. Now I'm being realistic here, financial wise, so Manhattan is most likely out of the question. The Academy is located there, but if I have to get in apartment in another borough, taking a bus or taxi would be just fine. Several problems with this: 1. Most taxis do not go from one borough to the other. 2. Taxis get extremely expensive on a daily basis. So plan on taking the subway, go anywhere you want for $2.00. Living in NYC is very expensive, and that's something you have to consider. You'll need at least one job once you're here, and those are pretty limited given the sheer volume of residents on the island and given the high population of immigrant workers. They're also pretty limited based on hours, which given the fact that you're in school, might make it difficult. You might consider moving in with a room mate, especially an NYC native to help you for the first few weeks. It can be tough to get around in the city. If I were you, and I live not 40 minutes from NYC (out here on Long Island, grew up spending lots of time in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan) I would move out here a month before classes start to make sure you're as well acclimated as possible. If you need any help with city info I'll help any way I can. You seem like a nice enough guy. Good luck with your plans!
