HolyGrenadeFrenzy
The Ringworld series by Larry Niven hmmmm synopsis sounds like Halo Yeah but Halo is smaller and Niven is the original, regardless of the current games call to fame. The Ringworld It won the Hugo and Nebula awards the only thing that beats that is The Neuromancer by William Gibson if awards can measure anything....Niven is still classic. The more recent series of Gibson is quite nice but the Niven Known Space books are great Sci-Fi and try out a collection of different things with A Hole In Space by Larry Niven. OptimumPx
Well, I wouldn't call it sci-fi.....but I've always loved The Stand by Steven King. Also recommended is his Dark Tower series.

Hayden
I've yet to read it myself, but I've head that 2020 is a good book. It's a kind of Orwellian kind of futuristic book.

Otter
You know what's actually a great sci-fi read, while entirely funny? The Red Dwarf series. The first three, anyhow.
fox09
The Footprints of God by Greg Iles is epic. Really great read. Also Armor, by John Steakley is a great sci-fi book too. It's pretty much a ripoff of Starship Troopers, but it's more about the effects of war on a person psychologically, while Starship Troopers was more political stuff. (So says wiki, at least.) Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (especially if you know Spanish, but I can also vouch for the English translation version--it's just a great book.) Right now I'm reading Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, and it's pretty interesting. Premature recommendation on that one. Edit: Haha, I didn't read the OP's post. My bad. WalkerBoh
Jeffery Deaver's 'The Blue Nowhere' is cool if you like internetz and murder. Although techinalogically its kinda outdated. Terry brook's shannara series. Kinda like LOTR but alot deeper. Anything by stephen king is usually good. Dark Tower series, IT, The Stand. Dean Koontz's 'Ticktock' is pretty farout
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus
The topic title was very misleading. Harry Potter isn't a sci-fi book; it's a fantasy book. Anyways, Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard.

Loman
any book by Christopher Moore! If you've never read any Chris Moore, you should start with "Practical Demonkeeping". I also love "The Stupidest Angel" and "Lamb: The Gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal"... not to mention "Bloodsucking Fiends", "Fluke", "The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove", and "Island of the Sequined Love Nun" Click Here for descriptions of his books.
