--AngelofDeath-
hopefully that sh*t doesnt happen to me, i just brought mine on xmas. it happended to the first 100 or so xboxs that first came out. you bought urs during christmas so they probally fixed it by then sweet, that made me feel alot better about it. Its the first xbox ive bought, always been a sony guy. Yea I was a PS2 fanboy and still is. I actually wanted a ps3 but my dad surprised me with a xbox 360. Luckily there is a next gen dragon ball game called Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit for Xbox 360 only. Same here, was never an xbox fan, but felt like a change so i bought the 360 instead. i will buy a ps3 if my 360 starts trippin which i hope does not happen. well it wont break if you have it in a no dust place( The xbox 360 sucks in air which I dont get) A way to prevent the Red Ring of Death or Overheating is to keep it clean, keep on a hard floor instead of carpetting, and Keep it AWAY from the wall as farthest as possible. If you keep it right near the wall, the heat will bounce off it and go back into your 360 causing it to overheat. Cool, yeah i keep mine clean and i dont play it much (until GTA IV comes), but i find it stupid that there is even a ring of death, there shouldn't be any problems like this. I did not play my 360 for a week and turn it on and Rings of Death. So I sent it in is there a good chance that I’ll get a newer one with a lesser chance of getting the Red Rings of Death? Not sure. I haven't seen any late news about they solving this issue. What they'll do for sure is fix yours and give it back, as far as I know. All right thanks, I have only gone through three systems over the last five months but I am kind of getting tired of waiting for the next time it happens. Flebber
OMG! If this happens to me i will cry for a few minutes, bash in Microsofts phone number..abuse that little bitch on the recieving end, email Microsft about 100 times, cry for another few minutes lol....then go out and buy an XBOX Elite cuz i couldn't stand having GTA IV and not being able to play it. What would you do if this ever happens to any of you? (god forbid) Discuss... I would get up, go to the ATM machine, take out about 350 bucks and buy an 360 arcade version. But first I would yell and throw things. Both of you are the perfect examples why the xbox360 is still ahead of the PS3 saleswise. I wonder if the reason you didn't want to buy the PS3 is because it was too expensive.....

Azil2fu
If it happens to me, i send my broken 360 to microsoft, i change my 360 version of GTA for a PS3 version, and i buy an "occasion" PS3 and play the game safely . When my repaired 360 is back, i sell this shiat, that's it. not GTAIV actually causing the RRoD. But the RRod appears while playing a game that takes many ressources of the processor. I guess GTA IV will take a looooooot of ressources. That's why we can be scared. Edited January 25, 2008 by Azil2fu

Actually, the RRoD usually happens when the metal that keeps the motherbaord, processor, gpu , etc. together goes in a liquid state, making everything get apart. That is, if the console keeps at 100ºC too much.

So the hardware is being too hot, and it breaks as you said. You have more chances to get a RoD while playing gears of war and mass effect, than playing pro evolution soccer or ace combat. I'm more scared to have that f*cking "ERROR - unreadable disc, please clean it" every half an hour, than get a red ring of death. That would piss me off Edited January 25, 2008 by Azil2fu

Water boils at 99.8 so wth are you talking about? It's the overall hardware (or parts of) that gets above it's service temp. and thus fails. dlx
not scared at all... my box has been working for... i dunno... going on two years now.. it's seen all kinds of abuse.. at some point I even had it on a cold, damp tiled floor for about two weeks and when I picked it up water poured out (actually pouring)... hehe... still works... the only problem I had was when my mate kinda kicked around the floor with a disc spinning inside... the disc was ruined.. but that's it.. RRoD only happens to fanboys...
Azil2fu
Q: In your opinion what do you think the main cause of the Red Ring of Death failures have been?RROD is caused by anything that fails in the "digital backbone" on the mother board. Also known as a core digital error. CPU, GPU, memory, etc. Bad parts, incompatible parts (timing problems) bad manufacturing process (like solder joints), misapplied heat sinks or thermal interface material, missing parts, broken parts, parts of the wrong value, missed test coverage. Any one or more, on any chip, or many other discrete components, would cause this. And many of the failures were obviously infant mortality, where they work when they leave the factory and fail early in use. The main design flaw was the excessive heat on the GPU warping the mother board around it. This would stress the solder joints on the GPU and any bad joints would then fail in early life. There are also other significantly high failure rates in other areas, like the DVD. SOURCE
