Games like Halo degrade the society with its over-the-top sci-fi feel. its almost that bad as WoW since people waste their lives on sh*t like that. maybe "this" genre just doesn't attract me, but I don't care. I lke realistic games like COD4 (my favorite FPS so far) and RTS like World in Conflict, now those are popper real life scenario simulations. Halo = Nerd-making-bullsh*t. Yes. First week? No. But definitely in the long run. Halo 3 had a lot of major hype built up going into its launch. Not only is the game itself terribly overrated(being a big Halo fan myself, I must say I am disappointed in Halo 3. I do believe it is a solid game and definitely worth buying, but it wasn't the masterpiece I was hoping for, and not even as good as many people make it out to be), outside of Custom games online, the game is virtually no replay value. As previously stated, once you have completed campaign on Legendary, matchmaking online gets really tired really fast. Also, there are many other games in the FPS genre that bare enough resemblance to it, merely because they are FPS. What I mean is that most people aren't picky about atmosphere. Whether it's futuristic or modern warfare, people just like to shoot things. Games will constantly be coming out in the FPS genre such as COD4 and the anticipated R6 Vegas 2, and these type games will probably attract more average consumers and more smart gamers. GTA is a classic franchise. Not only is it a classic franchise, the only game that bares close enough resemblance to it is Saint's Row, and nobody will choose Saint's Row over GTA 4 once it hits the market. It won't have any competition. Now the fact that it won't have any competition won't help it in it's first week's sales(though it's going to do really well regardless if it surpasses Halo's or not). But in the long run, that will play a part. I do believe on the 360 system in the long run, GTA 4 will outsell Halo 3. And I don't believe that COD 4 outsold Halo 3 on the 360, but combined with the PS3. I may be wrong on this, but I am under the impression that COD4 simply has more people on Xbox Live playing COD 4 than Halo does, but as far as copies sold Halo 3 has more. Put it this way, a kid asks his parents for Halo 3, and im certain the parent see's no harm in the game and buys it, but a kid asks for GTA IV and becasue of GTA reputation im pretty sure that kid wont be getting it. I hope GTA IV will have a midnight launch to create media attention, this way many others will jump on it's hype and buy the game too. I think a gta game wasnt been released in a long time, aside from the psp titles and even though halo 2 came out the same year as San andreas did halo 2's online multiplayer kept it alive while only one person could play San Andreas. And lastly, Halo 3 was an end to a trigoly, hell the end of 2 was the biggest cliffhanger-ish ending a game could have. many people went to the store to finshe a story that elasped througn 3 games, while GTA IV isnt a sequel to anything, let alone trying to call the last 3 gta's sequels to eachother. If it was only available on the 360 however, then as long as it's less overrated than Halo 3 it would most likely do better. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated. I'm sure R* doesn't fancy spending millions closing down Times Square at midnight of launch day and throw a big party. Or on soft drink advertisements. My beliefs are because you have your gta fans which is basically all of the community, because who doesnt like cursing and killing and blowing shiat up. Then there is the halo nerds which will also buy gta 4 because they will take their rage out on it. Giving them a sense of power. Possibly may even provide some good wanking material for many nerds. If you want some real FPSs to fap to, buy the Orange Box. THAT is something that's terribly underrated hype-wise, compared to H3. I bought it.. fine, played some time. All you do is shoot and drive some vehicles. It's comparable to HL2 in a way that you just go forward shoot sh*t with different things, except for the puzzle parts and the part where you actually feel the suspension in HL2 of being alone.. and the huuuge CONTINUOUS world. If you want to count both consoles, then double Halo's sales and you've got your answer - hell no. I don't understand why so many people blindly hate Halo.
