err0rz0n
It didn't last too long, however, as Niko whipped out his rocket launcher and proceeded to take aim at a passing cabin cruiser. After the first couple of shots missed, Niko aimed straight ahead - and clipped the rocket against his own boat's control panel, sending him flying as it exploded. Lucky for Niko, he can swim. He won't be able to go underwater, like in San Andreas, but being confined to the surface is still better than drowning instantly. Source

dragonrock
Going underwater was pointless in SA, and there was like one mission that required you to go underwater. And it wasn't really that fun. I thought underwater was kind of scary at times. OMGZ YOU GOTTA WATCH OUT FOR THE SPOTLIGHTS Plus, without the underground landscape, it saves space on the disk for better stuff. matt11504
but i liked seeing all the fish, the dolphin, the jellyfish, and the starfish. oh well IV will still be a great game
tinman187
Goin underwater was cool, but it was kinda pointless. All u needed it for was that mission in San Fierro, and gettin all them annoying oysters. Like someone said earlier, it saves disk space, im sure people will forget about it as soon as they play the game.

Simseth
so... who cares? Many people care. I thought going underwater was cool in San Andreas, sure it may have been useless, but it gave me a huge sense of freedom, and I liked to roleplay going way out in the ocean than going snorkling and seeing schools of fish and such, a break from all the city-gangbanging life. This is very disappointing. What if your car falls into the water? Will it just float on the surface of the water unrealistically? Or will you die like in GTA3, VC, and LCS? Wouldn't it be cool to just dive into the water so you can easily lose the cops? And the uses go on, so I take back what I said earlier, it's not useless at all. f*ck missions+underwater, GTA was made for freeeroam, with a storyadded to it. NintendoFanboy
What about when your car goes in the water? What happens? Do you die? Does it auto get out for you? What happens with that? I was wondering the same thing. I might automatically take you out of the car and leave you at the surface of the water, but that animation would look really weird and out of place. In SR whenever your in water, if you press the y button the game automatically puts you back on land, so maybe this is what happens in IV?

Rick88
Going underwater was cool, it was useful when trying to escape the cops and for that mission. But other than that, it was mostly pointless. Oh well, I won't really miss it, like the guy above me said, GTA IV is adding a bunch of other things. Playing darts FTW. technomm
Going underwater was pointless in SA, and there was like one mission that required you to go underwater. So by your logic that every aspect of the game that doesn't aim to improve the gameplay seriously and forces your hand to use those particular features in various missions should be taken away anyways. gyms, eating (restaurants etc),clothing, prostitutes, planes,Heli's ,bicycles,countrysides,estates,radio,music... to name a few fun things, were all pointless features. And what we'll have in the end is a pretty stripped down version of GTA:SA and Vice City namely GTA IV. and yes i know they're adding a bunch of so-called new features to the game though not to my own desire. Honestly this game won't be as huge(at least for me).
Darrel
Better question if this true. What would happen if you were to jump of Broker bridge in to the water? becasue obviously you'd go under water from the impact. I'm guessing Niko automatically swims to the surface and that's fine by me.

XIDESIGN
How more options how better, sad thing to read that you wont be able to dive.. But are you able to swim like what happends when you fell into the water? Do you get like transported back to land or something like in Saints Row, push a button to get back on land.
