lurchseesu420
Not only do I find the rims ridiculously huge, I high dislike the spoke patterns they usually have. Now these, are some nice wheels. Don't get me started on good looking wheels. I've never been big on wheels bigger than 16"s. Too much weight for me. And I also like them detailed. Some of my favorites include: Early Porsche Fuchs Mahle Gas Burners Mahle Baby Burners (what I have, except mine aren't detailed) Pedrinis and little 10x4.5" Mini Cosmics And also any BBS wheel. In my opinion, these wheels look a sh*t load better than any 20"+ peice of sh*t. Edited January 22, 2008 by lurchseesu420

Suction Testicle Man
These marginally beat veedubya's creations for me.. a set of good ol' Rostyles: I'm also not a fan of these new chromed-up wheels - they look like something out of Lord of the Rings welded to a barrel drum and rubbed with silverclean for a week straight. It takes a lot for an amateur car mechanic to improve the stability, economy and practicality of a modern car - if one of these can even steer, I'd like to see it turn a corner at 20mph. Truth of the matter is, putting rims that don't actually fit in your wheel arch will make your car undriveable, and make you look like a retard. Maybe myself and the world just isn't ready for donking, but cars built for driving can pull chicks - cars built to pull chicks can't drive. As proven by the stickers in these cars windows - it's just a big dick-waving competition as to who has the most inches. Ironic it's length that is so sought after in such a situation. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.
Cran.
I hate this whole scene with a passion. They're trying to compensate for a lack of taste (and genitals) by fitting ludicrously large wheels and sh*t-tastic paint jobs. As STM mentioned, they just ending looking like massive cocks, and they end up with cars that can't go over 20. I quite like those old wheels above, but I've always had a soft spot for the old Bluebird TRX 15" wheels. Especially in black with a chrome lip! GTA3Freak-2001
I wasn't aware there was a name to these abominations, I've always lumped this crap with the likes of ricers and other tasteless car modding. From where do these names come from? Donk?
Picolini
I'm guessing they stole it from the South Australian term: Donk is a slang term that can be used for:stupidity, South Australia Via: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donk
lowridincrew
That is the uglies impala clone ever. @ lowridincrew. Are you seriously going to put 22"s on a F/F unibody Monte Carlo? Seriously? That would look even more out of place on a car like that. And why take the DOHC 3.4 out of it? It's a gem of an engine. It's sad to see such a great car go to complete sh*t. Yeah but you'll see you know how chip foose does his cars with a nice stance but he uses big wheels also and the engine is going to be replaced with a 03 monte carlo supercharged engine so that'll be a better choice oh yeah he definitely did the smart thing by sellin it to somebody else cause it looks like a headache, he didnt set that one up right Edited January 23, 2008 by lowridincrew

Sure they are a great car...but they are still front wheel drive and the biggest motor that has been put in them has been that 5.3L that got ploped in the GTP Grand Prix. And it only has what, 19 inch rims, probably 18? Think about this: What cars have you seen come off the factory line with 22" rims. None. Only a few trucks, like the SRT-10 Ram, have had the big rim. Rim size dictates how much rolling mass you create. It takes a sh*t load more force to stop a car with 22" rims when it orig. came with 17" rims. Than you have to figure in the stress you put on your motor because of getting that mass rolling again. Its like trying to pedal up hill in 10 gear on an 18 speed bike. Sure you may get up, but damn you used too much energy. Edited January 23, 2008 by kevin2006rhs

lurchseesu420
Perfection Now putting these things on a Caprice, Impala, Crown Vic, etc. is one thing. They're at least body on frame with live rear axles. They can somewhat handle it (with a little bit of beefing sh*t up). But a F/F unibody Buick (or Monte Carlo) just can't handle this sh*t for long. He'll be having all kinds of problems before too long (especially if it's a daily driver). So it's a long way away from perfection.
kevin2006rhs
Damn...my Grand Prix has a fare ammount of break dust showing through the steel rims and hubcaps...i could only imagine what stock breaks would dust up like with a rim that big putting that much stress on a rotor. Heres a scary one. If any of you are familiar with football or the name "Dorsette", you know the guy who owns this car. His name is Anthony Dorsette Jr. Pro football player and son of football legend Tony Dorsette. It did have a rear drive set up, that helped. But what you couldnt help is the fact that the rotor exploded. Thats right...it f*ckin exploded. He was on his way to our shop to get an oil change when it happened, go figure. He lives in the town of Aliquippa and was driving on the highway to New Brighton, where our shop is located. He made a semi-hasty stop and "boom"...it exploded. BTW...that 71' Cutlass behind his '79 Camaro was a car we were building for him. It was nice...383ci SBC Brodix motor...custom "racing" suspension and breaks designed to handle 19" or less rims...and some other fun stuff. Do you know what he did to that thing? He put 21" inch Dayton style rims on the damn thing. Drove like ass and wore out breaks almost as fast as it went through gas.

lurchseesu420
While that's not as bad as some of the Donk sh*t on here, those wheels still like like sh*t on a car like that. Old cars look like sh*t with big ass wheels like that. Best to stick to some 15"s or 16"s. American Racing, Centerline, and Weld Racing all make some some good wheels that look good on classic cars. Looks A lot better with some 15" American Racing wheels. Edited January 24, 2008 by lurchseesu420
Picolini
That's probably the best looking car posted in this thread yet, but it looks a bit off. The rims are too race-style for that car, they should have more of a muscle car look to them. Some thicker spokes, preferably 5 would look great on that. Keep the black spokes and chrome rim combo as well, it'd look much much better like that. Oh, and keep them at that size, they look like 18's, I'd say that's the sweet spot on rim sizes. Something like this probably...
lurchseesu420
Although they are getting a bit too common and are almost becoming a muscle car cliche, The American Racing Torque Thrust D's will always be a good looking wheel on any muscle car. epoxi
Says the man that wanted to put chromed 20's on Civic. No...says the man who actually has 18" ACEs on his 1.4 litre hatchback. lurchseesu420
18's aren't really all that bad. They actually match your car. Wheels actually look pretty good.
