Forty
Another big problem with GTAF are the topics that have no purpose, aim, or direction that carry on for 8 pages about NOTHING. Jesus there's so much spam. I'm not criticising or anything, but why don't you go and make a useful topic instead of ranting about how there aren't any? We are the ones who make a difference here., you can't expect things to get better with a topic complaining about how bad they are. Catch my drift? CF33 That's not what is needed, in my opinion. We don't need a surge of meaningful topics, what we need is a cease of useless topics. Then the ones with true substance will naturally rise to the top. It's easy to tell people who complain to drown out the spam with some quality, but the actual problem is that there's so much spam that it won't make a difference. We've been down this road before...so many times.
cold fusion 33
Ah I see what you mean and I agree, but I think that if the 'upstanding' forum members set an example of useful topics then the spammers will realise that there are better things to talk about than utter rubbish. What were the 'golden years' topics like? What were they mainly about? CF33

They've gotten older, and simply don't find topics like that funny any more.
cold fusion 33
I think there is an element of the vets getting older but I think for the most part it is the 07/ 08ers doing the dirty.

I think it's a shame though, there's a "newb stigma" attached to the '07ers because they have a distinct lack of Netiquette.
cold fusion 33
That is why I am up for a sub forum where you have to sort of 'earn' your way in. Useful and not spamming people will be allowed to enter the spammers will not. Not sure if that would actually work though. Isn't there a way of locking people out of certain areas of the forums? I mean the 07ers got into teh pit, isn't there a way to lock certain people out?
Rhoda
You mean like topic filters? I know you can make certain areas private if you're in a seperate group, but I'm not sure about general members, unless there's some post count to join date ratio filter. I wouldn't get in then anyway, I've got 1600 in 4 months... Edited January 22, 2008 by Masterkraft
Stefan.
Hmmm. When I first saw this Forum, it was late '05. Boy how I loved it; it was exciting, the people were great, there were few spammers, and people actually enjoyed themselves. 2 years later, the GTA IV section has become newb town, all the interesting vets are gone, and people are posting comments about their love lives. I think older members are simply fed up with the Forum, and cannot handle how big it is. They say it is like a community. The world is a community, as well, so it is a little vague when describing the Forum. Personally, I do not think it is just 07's and 08's who are starting all this crap; yes, it involves them, but who is to say that an idiotic 01'er cannot do the same? It depends on how mature people are; you have 07's who are as mature as anything, yet you have some who are immature as monkeys.
GT-1
Gen Chat has too many ego-trippers, not masses but quite a few. Members who 3-4+ years ago made half decent contributions, but somehow got the impression its cool to act like an arsehole. Its usually (but not always) those people who talk about the "good 'ol days", little do they realise their arseholish behaviour is one of the reasons Gen Chat is sh*te. Its easy to point the finger at newer members, but how many new members did the PGC have, and why was that shut? If someone came along now and posted a topic similar to Chang's Mongolian Grill, or Svip's wierdos comics they would be shot down in a few minutes. Members should use the forum for having a laugh... I Think some older members are too dismissive of newer members just because of their Join dates. This just makes everyone feel intimidated or under valued and so Gen-chat has quite a bad vibe IMO. Forty
I don't think anyone gives a sh*t about join date. All of you keep preaching that the problem is join date, join date, join date. I haven't found that to be an issue in my entire time here. Join date is unimportant if you are well articulated and have common sense. The biggest factor in people being treated like pond scum is that they make no effort to be seen positively. They run around like unsupervised children posting bullsh*t and nonsense, and even the older members are doing this. There is no one willing to curb the mania. And as a result, Gen Chat continues to suffer from a lack of inspiration.
cold fusion 33
I am not trying to criticise about join dates but it is true that for the most part the new members are the main cause of this problem. What I am trying to say is, that if there was a way we could make a subforum where only the 'established' members could enter, kind of like a V.I.P area if you know what I mean. I don't know if this would ever work in practive but it seems like a good idea to me hypothetically. Gen Chat continues to suffer from a lack of inspiration. This is what I can't understand. Do you expect that by saying this that everybody is going to be suddenly inspirated? If you have inspiration, show it. Don't hide away and 'moan' about how no-one else has any. I'm not moaning, cold fusion, so quit following all my posts with a comment in that regard. This is a discussion. What is a discussion without varying points of view? The problem is not that we need better topics. The problem is that we need fewer sh*tty topics. I am not the one making the sh*tty topics, and I am not a moderator, so I cannot fix the problem. Seriously though, in the few months I've been here, I've seen old and new members alike all taking flak for posting bullsh!t. Personally, I haven't had a single senior member break my balls about being new here. So I can't say a thing about this perceived anti-07 bias. It's been nothing but smooth sailing on my end. And while I've heard again and again about the glory days back in 04, and how the current forum pales in comparison...well, I can't compare, but I think GTAF is still a pretty sweet little community. Yea i feel the same i like the forum there is always something going on (now the info drought has stopped) and there are some geniuinely nice people. But i was called a typical 07er once for nothing and I just think statements like that are quite arrogant. Obviously some people deserve it. wankers like Hazer blade for example. But oh well. I would have liked to have been around for the fabled 'glory days' but time moves on and we are but shadows and dust.

That's because you post with intelligence and you know what you're talking about. Main thing is that you use proper grammar instead of "txt tlk" that seems to be popular among the GTA IV section dwelling '07ers.
