But seriously, you mentioned a few stand out topics. They were just the icing on the cake though, a few stand out topics and an exception to the general bullsh*t being posted. Three screenshots from gen chat from 2005: Out of 120 topics, 10 span over 4 or more pages. Today i see 10 achieving that just on the first page of 40 topics. So it would seem today is a pretty good time to post mindless replies that go on for many pages. 2005 - such classic threads as "My mom hates me " "Was the new pope a nazi? - Don't ask me!" "own3d?" "Can u backflip" "OMG!" "haha" 'God my parents suck!" and let us not forget "Scooby Doo promotes rolling in feces" This idealistic place you speak of hasn't happened in the past 3 years, maybe you could scan the archive but i expect you'll just find the same old rubbish. I think the quality of general chat has always been low, there hsd always been a dangerously high proportion of clueless new members, complete idiots, moaning teenagers and people who just post the latest hit on digg. That's difficult to answer, since times change and so do forum attitudes. 2003-2005 was a time in which members knew each other, not always personally, but knew each other nonetheless. Nowadays, this place has become dwarfed with members whom I do not know and therefore are unable to relate to. Every 3-4 months a topic like this comes up which provokes members discussing how to make Gen Chat a place like the old days. However nothing ever happens and Gen Chat stays the same only for another topic to come up 3-4 months down the line where the same question is posed. I'm with the crowd that say this place used to be more fun. I used to spend hours upon hours here. Now I swing by for a few hours a week., nowt worth reading. I blame the forum getting bigger and more popular as a cause for this. It's not that it's a bad thing, it's just that you just can't have control over such a large crowd.
