Blind Joe Death
The title says it all. Basically I want some good rock music. There's a lot of different genres and styles out there that break off from rock so a lot of different genres of bands can be recommended to me but as long as they're still connected to rock in some way. I think you get the point. But yeah, I've been having trouble finding some good rock bands due to the crap that is played on MTV so I'm asking you guys to let me know of the best bands going around outside of MTV. Old band or new band, doesn't bother me. But all I have to say is that I absolutely froth off Rage Against The Machine so any fans of them would know what else I would like. Also, I gave Clutch and Year Long Disaster a listen to after seeing a couple of you talking about them and I really enjoy their music also. Ok, keep spamming to a minimum and don't flame others for the bands they recommend to me. Unless they truly do really suck and you need to point it out so I don't have to listen to that crap. Gabriel Constantin
Uhm. I'm more of a punk fan, personally. As for rock though (hard rock in particular), I would probably recommend: Bullets & Octane: Fast, gritty hard rock with obvious punk influences Buck Cherry: Sleazy, but catchy rock 'n' roll with varying levels of glam influence Black Stone Cherry: Slow and steady rock with a distinctive southern-sound

Corrosion of Conformity: Blind
Iminicus
V01fVBDnmX4[ /youtube] This is Kasabian my friend. Listen and enjoy. He said good rock music. You can't go past the classics. Check the Rolling Stones, Ramones, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, David Bowie, Sublime, Velvet Revolver, The Doors. There are so many.
Statutory Ray
Velvet Revolver He said good rock music and you said classics. Clutch - heavy blues-rock, slight metal/hardcore punk influences, less obvious in later recordings 3 - Coheed and Cambria, but good Year Long Disaster - Zeppelin minus the self-serving ego, son of The Kinks' Dave Davies plays guitar/sings Witch - Indie doom metal? Only mentioned because J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr plays drums in the band The Alter Boys - Surf rock/punk/avante-garde metal. Members of Dog Fashion Disco with former Mushroomhead singer. Dog Fashion Disco - Surf rock/horror punk/avante-garde metal/electronica. Polkadot Cadaver - Same as above. The Bakerton Group - The funkiest instrumental blues/jazz fusion band you'll ever hear. Members of Clutch. Captain Beefheart - Experimental, psychedelic, avante-garde, blues-rock. Even if you don't like it, you'll love it. Mike Watt - Founder of The Minutemen, very influential bassist. Solo stuff is decidedly punk, but sounds nothing like it. The Melvins - Easily the most influential band to the underground metal/alt rock scene of the late 80's/early 90's. Doom/sludge metal with hardcore punk influences, they pretty much invented "grunge" (along with sludge metal, but nobody cares about that) even if hardly any of the "grunge" bands thereafter displayed any hint of the same originality or talent. If you want accessible rock from them, check out Houdini, Stoner Witch, Stag, or (A) Senile Animal. Tad - A grunge band you can almost compare to The Melvins. Now I am too lazy to list more. jimmy.
Most of what has been said, except the things that have been called out for sucking, are good recommendations. Just things most people like off the top of my head: Electric Light Orchestra, Modest Mouse, The Smiths, Joy Division, Radiohead, Yo La Tengo, Blur, and if you want some really dream-like stuff, then The Cure Disintegration is a classic album, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, Slowdive's Souvlaki Space Station. Oh yeah, I don't know what draws you to RATM, but if it's intelligent, angry anarchist lyrics, then Propagandhi would be an obvious choice, though their sounds are fairly different, even though they both are metal-influenced. Dark.
If you like Rage Against The Machine then check out Audioslave. It's basically RATM but with Chris Cornell (vocalist of Soundgarden) as the lead singer. Also some of my favorite rock bands are Foo Fighters, Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Guns N' Roses, and System of A Down.
vacuumo
Clutch, Queens Of The Stone Age, Big Business, Fugazi, James Chance, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Mars, DNA, Gamma Ray, King Diamond. E: also Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, King Crimson and Creedence Clearwater Revival. I'm not sure how recommending the no wave you read about on Wikipedia is helping the OP as much as it is giving your ego a mirror-clean finish. To contribute, you should give one of Boris' rock oriented albums a spin. They don't only play rock but when they do it's always nothing short of awesome. Some of Morello's solos have the same sound, but the lyrical style and everything else is just completely different.
16 Roses
Hmm In terms of rock, I mainly listen to the heavier metal genres, but i can think of a good few rock bands. Velvet Revolver - Good band some pretty heavy riffs, with good soloing and singing's pretty decent as well AC/DC - Definitely a must listen. Aerosmith (perhaps) Iron Maiden - ok so they're more metal than rock, but it's still kick ass stuff! Guns n' Roses - Get Appetite for Destruction, excellent album for rock music. Memorable riffs, great themes, and fantastic solos.
