I'm going, a good friend of mine is bouncing the show. I just know I wont be able to stand half of the f*cking retards that go to shows like these.

i don't really go to many concerts like that, what brand of retards should i expect?

You'll get the hardcore crust punks, trendy anarchists, "Up The Punx" kids and your usual spatterings of everything inbetween. Should make for an interesting mix to say the least. tounge.gif

Meh, Reel Big Fish, I only like Beer, all of their other songs suck. I like Ska Punk, but Im more of a fan of Ska and Two tone. I recently watched The Beat live, by far my favourite Ska band, they are like The Specials but not as serious. They do have a few anti racist songs and all that, but they're a pretty much laid back band. They were that laid back they even had a beer with us after the show.

EDIT: I got some guy to make me a Cras t-shirt today, its awesome. On the front is the crass logo, on the back in a scaled down version of the logo with "Fight war not wars, destroy power not people" on the back in the stencil font.

think i might go see leftover crack next week, they're playing in nyc, 15 bucks which is a good price

Do it. I saw them and the Casualties on their tour a couple weeks ago, Leftover Crack was incredible.

Just make sure you stand as far away from the stage as possible when Trash Talk is on. If you get too close you may end up clawing your own eyes out.

rbf is sh*t to be honest. way too poppy. i view it as music like green day that you should only listen to under a certain age as a means to get into better music.

Basically what it comes down to...seeing as Reel Big Fish was my favorite band for a while there when I was 12/13...nowadays I can't stand them...

I still listen to ska punk in small doses, though, mostly Streetlight Manifesto, Bosstones or Sublime.

I've kinda taken a break from hardcore, but In Stride's Place Of Decay is a fantastic record. Been spinnin that sh*t all week.

Good choice of bands ropadope, I can see we made a good choice when we decided to let you into The Droogs. tounge.gif

I've been checking out a bit of "dance punk" and "digital hardcore" recently. I didn't manage to find any decent dance punk bands (apart from Prodigy, if they count); though I'm quite enjoying Atari Teenage Riot:

Basically this. Then you have the hardcore kids who purposely go to punk shows to mess with skinny punk kids, emo girls and the hot topic/avenged sevenfold/trivium squad. At least here in New York.

But honestly, if you decide to go, PM me. We could meet up or something.

And also ropadope, that's a great list.

I just came across the biggest stash of anarcho/crust punk to ever grace the internet. I'm currently "obtaining" the discography of D.I.R.T., Lost Cherrees, Inner Terrestials and the Crass singles. It's costing me a pretty penny, but it's worth it!

If anybody wants the link just PM me. ph34r.gif

I'm finally getting around to reading American Hardcore. It's not bad so far, but I could do without the constant droning about Black Flag.

I never saw Black Flag's appeal. They were alright, though they were more nihilist than anarchist, which was never my thing (was put off nihilism by the constant droning of Slipknot). I especially didn't like their later stuff when they started to develop a more "sludge" sound - though nothing can beat listening to "TV Party" with a few drinks!

I always prefered Bad Brains and Dead Kennedys to Black Flag (and Minor Threat, to a lesser extent) out of the "Big Four." Though I much prefer lesser-known bands like Youth Brigade, 7 Seconds, Jerry Kids, Gang Green etc.

Then again, I've never been that big a fan of American hardcore.

I'm currently listening to Black & White by DIRT. I always wanted to listen to them though the only music I heard that could be linked back to the band was some sh*tty grindcore on the group's last.fm page. I'm relieved that this isn't the case with their actual music.

I really like it though, Deno's vocals are brilliant and they defiantly sound a bit dirtier and crustier than other bands out at the time like Crass and Flux of Pink Indians. British anarchopunk is easy to come by, not the case with British crust though. sad.gif

I probably would've liked Black Flag a lot better if I had heard them when I was first discovering hardcore and punk. I didn't listen to BF until after I had heard just about everything hardcore had to offer, and I just found them generic and bland. Although, to a certain extent, all hardcore bands sound alike. I'll still listen to "Rise Above" and "White Minority" every now and then though.

There's an entire chapter about them, along with Bad Brains, and the Straight Edge movement started by Minor Threat.

Black Flag played a huge part in the West Coast hardcore scene, most noted for all the negative attention they got from the media, and cops constantly shutting down shows/rioting shows, and beating the sh*t out of kids at shows.

@jacky: The name Black Flag itself means Anarchy (see Greg Ginn's part of the Black Flag interview on Decline of Western Civilization.)

I understand that, but that doesn't mean their songs didn't have a distinct nihilist feel about them. I'm not saying that they're bad. Just nihilsm isn't my thing. Though I guess it comes hand-in-hand with anarchy, in some ways.

I think it's safe to say I now have more anarcho/punk on my hard drive than anything else, though my media player still decided to play nothing but the blink-182 discography I downloaded when I was 15 (yes I still have it).

I love Black Flag, I prefer them to Dead Kennedys, and I love them too.

Damien has got me into Attak, they're awesome. This is the time is my favourite by them. They sound very similair to GBH.

Im thinking of getting American harcore, keep me posted, tell me if its worth a read.

I've began planning my "schedule" for Rebellion:

Thursday

OUTL4W

The Varukers

Friday

Sick On The Bus

Star f*cking Hipsters

Subhumans

The Restarts

The Adolescents

Vice Squad/P&TTB/Steve Lake

The Damned/Bad Shepherds

Saturday

Riot Squad

Citizen Fish

Goldblade

999

Newtown Neurotics

The Creepshow

Ambebix

UK Subs/Nick Cash

The Adicts

Sunday

Charred Hearts

Voodoo Glow Skulls

The Dickies/World/Inferno

Leftover Crack

Places where there are two or more bands are instances where those bands are playing at the same time, and I cannot decide which one to go to. sad.gif

Thursday is looking to be pretty rubbish, to be honest. I'm considering just drinking all day Thursday and start festivaling Friday. tounge.gif

P.S. If anyone from the south-west is reading this and is going to Rebellion too, fancy giving me a lift? tounge2.gif

They're taking their time to come up with a plan. I just want to make sure I have a back-up incase I can't go with them.

I've managed to find the best looking piece of album art ever. It's for Riot/Clone's "Still No Government Like NO Government". My signature really doesn't do it justice:

I've been told by my friend that I need to watch Dead Subverts and Police Bastard on Thursday as well, which I will be doing. Should take up a few hours I was planning on using doing nothing. You should check them out Jake, and maybe Damien, if you're going.

I just discovered that Dead Subverts is actually a local band and that the bass player/singer is also the bass player/singer in 2 Sick Monkeys; another local band that I've seen a few times before. Small world. dontgetit.gif

I guess I've got another band to bum a lift off if The Charred Hearts don't get themselves organized. lol.gif

UPDATE: Just been messaging Pete, from 2SM/Dead Subverts and it seems that I should be getting a lift with them, that is if Fuller doesn't deliver with the goods. Though I'd much rather go with Pete because it means I get to goto the warm-up gig the night before Rebellion.

Also resolved my Peter & The Test Tube Babies/Steve Lake (Zounds)/Vice Squad dilema. Vice Squad aren't that good anymore (according to my friends), Steve Lake is a legend and this is probably the only chance I'll ever get to see him and Peter & The Test Tube Babies are playing my local venue in October! Sorted.

Never heard of them, do you have any links?

I had a friend sending me song after song of "unknown" crust/anarcho bands earlier today (even though one of those bands was Nausea, not very "unknown" to be honest). I found a pretty interesting band amongst the piles by the name of Burning Kitchen. Can't find a MySpace or anything for them though. sad.gif

EDIT: I managed to find their last.fm account. Though they only have two songs on there available for listening. sad.gif
